About Roxbury Treatment Center

Roxbury Treatment Center is a comprehensive behavioral health treatment center in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. They provide inpatient psychiatric care, inpatient addiction treatment, an intensive outpatient program, outpatient treatment, and co-occurring mental health care. These programs serve adults and adolescents.

Inpatient treatment begins with medical detox where substances are safely and comfortably removed from the body. Sublocade, Vivitrol, and oral Naltrexone are also used as medication-assisted treatment for individuals who need to continue to block drug cravings and need this tool to help sustain recovery long-term. Treatment also includes a combination of individual and group counseling, psychoeducation, 12-step meetings, yoga, meditation, relaxation groups, and psychiatric medication management.

The inpatient psychiatric programs include evaluation, medication-assisted stabilization, medication management and education, medical examination, therapeutic groups and activities with a small group focus, recreational therapies including art and music, and crisis planning.

The IOP meets three times per week for three hours at a time and typically lasts for six weeks. The standard outpatient program includes one session of group therapy a week for 90 minutes. This program typically lasts between eight and 12 weeks. Groups focus on ways to maintain sobriety.

Staff basically had no control over any of us. I was in here for my 14th birthday around December of 2022. They did not separate patients who were clearly in romantic relationships with each other (I will admit I was one of them). The food wasn t horrible. It was dirty in the cafeteria and the day rooms. The day room and the movie room were both locked constantly as well as our rooms and there was no place to sit except for the floor but we had to be a few feet from each other and in staff vision. So basically it was a bunch of teenagers sitting together in a crowded small hallway. There was one point when all of the patients (myself included) dragged our beds out of our rooms and sat in the hallways, refusing to go to bed, eating graham crackers and being extremely rude to the staff and they did a good job keeping their cool and being respectful to us while trying to enforce the rules. Two very specific staff members come to mind. Diva and Trish. Diva was known to almost all of us as momma d and at one point I didn t have any kind of shoes at home to wear to school, and she gave me a pair of her vans to wear when I went home. I love her so much and wish her the best things. There were points where we managed to go into each others rooms (which was obviously something we weren t supposed to do) and at one point some of the other patients were doing the tongue-in-cheek method for their meds and giving them to other patients to crush and snort. There were multiple patients with a history of drug abuse who were supposed to be sent to the rehab unit who were in our unit instead. We frequently hung out in each others rooms.

From the reviews I read before going. I was concerned. It wasn't as bad as what the people wrote.Pros:1. Good Food2. Dana, Melissa, and Kelli (Nurses) where my absolute favorite. Kelli was there for me the first couple days of detox helping me push through.3. Most of the CAs are nice. Some do play favoritism. Ms. Q was extremely understanding to my needs. Angel was a great listening and would ask me if I was ok if he caught me sitting by myself. Ms. A is also one of my favorite she does what she can to help.4. The real groups that are actually ran are great.Cons:1. Understaffed in the councilor department. I only had 2 actually scheduled sit down with mine in the 30 days I was there.2. People don't necessarily leave on there discharge dates which makes them to be frustrated. The staff acts like there's no reason for them to be upset.3. If you are sick they will not let you rest at all except for the scheduled time each day at 3pm. That isn't comfortable especially when everyone is sick and we are forced to stay up.4. Staff does not really break up arguments or fights until it gets out of control. A couple of times I felt unsafe. At that point some people are overwhelmed and anxious.Overall though I didn't really make a breakthrough until Wednesday a couple days before I left. I thank Tom for that and he wasn't even my councilor. He actually took the most time out for me even when I could see he was busy and seemed to not have time. He seemed to always have time for all of us if we asked.

Accepted Insurance

Roxbury Treatment Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab provides clients with an opportunity to focus solely on their sobriety away from the stressors of the home and workplace. Clients receive housing, food, and intensive clinical supervision. They also typically engage in multiple addiction counseling sessions each week, including daily individual, group, and/or family sessions. Most programs also prioritize recovery-focused life skills training, including courses in relapse prevention. Many facilities offer evidence-based holistic therapies, such as yoga and meditation.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Pennsylvania is devoted to the treatment of addiction. Levels of care, treatment methods, and settings differ, but the aim of each program is to end drug dependency and empower participants to achieve long-term recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Incorporating recreational therapy into drug and alcohol addiction programs in Pennsylvania helps you rebuild your life and maintain sobriety by discovering new interests and developing healthy coping mechanisms. Recreational activities can include painting, team sports, and hiking to promote physical and mental health.

My son is currently there. They put everyone with mental health issues together. Some are very severe. They should separate them. Not enough food served, rooms are very cold. Bedding is minimal. I understand that but a heavier blanket would be nice. They also allow the patients to watch murderous Halloween movies

My son had a great Experience at Roxbury treatment center. He is 16 years old and was struggling with depression, anxiety OCD, ADHD and ASD. He said the best part was the employees. They were so loving and caring and wanted the best for him at all times, he appreciated the structure where he made a goal in the morning and got to talk about it in the afternoon. Something that he will carry with him for the rest of his life. With that said there was a couple things That they could work on. My son has a size 14 shoe. They only had one size fits all socks for everybody. The socks didn t even cover his heel. The only other thing is that the entire time he was there I never heard from a therapist, Doctor, nurse, or social worker about his progress. I was told there would be family therapy, and there was not. My son never signed anything that he didn t want me to be included. They called twice from the nurses station about medication and that was it. I finally got a phone call from the Social Worker the day before his discharge and she demanded that she had left me several messages. It turned out She had the wrong phone number. This is something I feel like she should have double checked. Would I send him There again? Yes. I will just provide him plenty of socks and I will be writing my phone number in magic marker on his arm. lol

My daughter was here for 3 weeks. During that time I only spoke to her social worker 2 times maybe 3 and each time lasted no more than 10 minutes. The day before my daughter was discharged I had emailed once and called on 5 separate occasions trying to see what was going on. I never received a call back. I, as her mother, decided to make the 2 hour trip to go get my daughter. Once there I was told that they weren t going to discharge her to me because it was technically her discharge date. However a nurse stood up for me telling them that I called multiple times asking questions about transportation. So, if your adolescent child doesn t have transportation they will not provide it under any circumstances. And you sign a paper for that too but they don t follow the protocols for it.Most of the nursing staff were polite and understanding and more helpful than the social worker.

The "Indian" or whatever they are doctors are the worst to deal with. I been here couple times and always had problems with doctors and techs..Some nurses are okay unless you have a question or problem then they are like "Oh here we go again" look. Food is horrible and some patients act pretty stupid and hit on eachother and give out numbers which i stayed away from.

This place was horrible not only was the unit I was in ( 13-17 ) was incredibly small other then activity rooms ( they were locked when we didn t have group ) there was no place or room to really sit other then the floor. That would not be horrible if we weren t constantly locked out of our rooms. Almost the whole day we were locked out except for brief moments such as doing school work when it wasn t your time. I understand the that this place is probably very understaffed however, if I or anyone else was so desperate to hurt themselves it would have been very easy to do so. My room had a wooded bookshelf and at the top of it, it was broken to a point where I or anyone else could have snapped it off and either cut or stab them self s or anyone else. That was like that when I arrived and when I left. Another issue with harm is that fact that they let a razor blade in somehow. It was attached to something and although the person who had it was stable enough not to do anything dangerous with it, it would easily be a huge problem with anyone else. Another issue I had was with my medication, when I went in I had an ear infection and my first 2 days I was given antibiotics for it however, after that they refused to give me anything else even though I had only started the medication 1 day prior to going in. The whole place was incrediblyDirty we constantly had dirt and other things on the floor. There was no real control either another patient their had extreme anger issues and would constantly kick wholes into the wall and some other kids did too. The game and activities closet was always locked and I found it hard to actually get anything out of it. The staff for the most part tried there best especially Tammy and Trish although they were very tired and exhausted they did seem like they cared along with 2 other women I just sadly can t remember their names ( 1 had medium grayish whiteish hair and the other I really can t remember much about but she checked me in and was very helpful calming me down ). I truly hope the staff here here get a raise soon and time off I know that job can be extremely stressful and exhausting especially dealing with teens. However, I still had a horrible experience due to the things I ve mentioned previously and also due to other circumstances that isn t necessarily the facility s fault. If you re a parent or a loved one looking to send your teenager here I would very strongly recommend you take your child somewhere else that is better suited for teens.
