About Roxbury Treatment Center

Roxbury Treatment Center is a comprehensive behavioral health treatment center in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. They provide inpatient psychiatric care, inpatient addiction treatment, an intensive outpatient program, outpatient treatment, and co-occurring mental health care. These programs serve adults and adolescents.

Inpatient treatment begins with medical detox where substances are safely and comfortably removed from the body. Sublocade, Vivitrol, and oral Naltrexone are also used as medication-assisted treatment for individuals who need to continue to block drug cravings and need this tool to help sustain recovery long-term. Treatment also includes a combination of individual and group counseling, psychoeducation, 12-step meetings, yoga, meditation, relaxation groups, and psychiatric medication management.

The inpatient psychiatric programs include evaluation, medication-assisted stabilization, medication management and education, medical examination, therapeutic groups and activities with a small group focus, recreational therapies including art and music, and crisis planning.

The IOP meets three times per week for three hours at a time and typically lasts for six weeks. The standard outpatient program includes one session of group therapy a week for 90 minutes. This program typically lasts between eight and 12 weeks. Groups focus on ways to maintain sobriety.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient Rehab

Inpatient rehab provides clients with an opportunity to focus solely on their sobriety away from the stressors of the home and workplace. Clients receive housing, food, and intensive clinical supervision. They also typically engage in multiple addiction counseling sessions each week, including daily individual, group, and/or family sessions. Most programs also prioritize recovery-focused life skills training, including courses in relapse prevention. Many facilities offer evidence-based holistic therapies, such as yoga and meditation.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Shield icon Insurance

Our Policy: Roxbury Treatment Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact us to verify your specific insurance provider.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in Pennsylvania is devoted to the treatment of addiction. Levels of care, treatment methods, and settings differ, but the aim of each program is to end drug dependency and empower participants to achieve long-term recovery.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

recreational-therapy iconRecreational Therapy

Incorporating recreational therapy into drug and alcohol addiction programs in Pennsylvania helps you rebuild your life and maintain sobriety by discovering new interests and developing healthy coping mechanisms. Recreational activities can include painting, team sports, and hiking to promote physical and mental health.

The "Indian" or whatever they are doctors are the worst to deal with. I been here couple times and always had problems with doctors and techs..Some nurses are okay unless you have a question or problem then they are like "Oh here we go again" look. Food is horrible and some patients act pretty stupid and hit on eachother and give out numbers which i stayed away from.

My son had a great Experience at Roxbury treatment center. He is 16 years old and was struggling with depression, anxiety OCD, ADHD and ASD. He said the best part was the employees. They were so loving and caring and wanted the best for him at all times, he appreciated the structure where he made a goal in the morning and got to talk about it in the afternoon. Something that he will carry with him for the rest of his life. With that said there was a couple things That they could work on. My son has a size 14 shoe. They only had one size fits all socks for everybody. The socks didn t even cover his heel. The only other thing is that the entire time he was there I never heard from a therapist, Doctor, nurse, or social worker about his progress. I was told there would be family therapy, and there was not. My son never signed anything that he didn t want me to be included. They called twice from the nurses station about medication and that was it. I finally got a phone call from the Social Worker the day before his discharge and she demanded that she had left me several messages. It turned out She had the wrong phone number. This is something I feel like she should have double checked. Would I send him There again? Yes. I will just provide him plenty of socks and I will be writing my phone number in magic marker on his arm. lol

My daughter was here for 3 weeks. During that time I only spoke to her social worker 2 times maybe 3 and each time lasted no more than 10 minutes. The day before my daughter was discharged I had emailed once and called on 5 separate occasions trying to see what was going on. I never received a call back. I, as her mother, decided to make the 2 hour trip to go get my daughter. Once there I was told that they weren t going to discharge her to me because it was technically her discharge date. However a nurse stood up for me telling them that I called multiple times asking questions about transportation. So, if your adolescent child doesn t have transportation they will not provide it under any circumstances. And you sign a paper for that too but they don t follow the protocols for it.Most of the nursing staff were polite and understanding and more helpful than the social worker.

This place was horrible not only was the unit I was in ( 13-17 ) was incredibly small other then activity rooms ( they were locked when we didn t have group ) there was no place or room to really sit other then the floor. That would not be horrible if we weren t constantly locked out of our rooms. Almost the whole day we were locked out except for brief moments such as doing school work when it wasn t your time. I understand the that this place is probably very understaffed however, if I or anyone else was so desperate to hurt themselves it would have been very easy to do so. My room had a wooded bookshelf and at the top of it, it was broken to a point where I or anyone else could have snapped it off and either cut or stab them self s or anyone else. That was like that when I arrived and when I left. Another issue with harm is that fact that they let a razor blade in somehow. It was attached to something and although the person who had it was stable enough not to do anything dangerous with it, it would easily be a huge problem with anyone else. Another issue I had was with my medication, when I went in I had an ear infection and my first 2 days I was given antibiotics for it however, after that they refused to give me anything else even though I had only started the medication 1 day prior to going in. The whole place was incrediblyDirty we constantly had dirt and other things on the floor. There was no real control either another patient their had extreme anger issues and would constantly kick wholes into the wall and some other kids did too. The game and activities closet was always locked and I found it hard to actually get anything out of it. The staff for the most part tried there best especially Tammy and Trish although they were very tired and exhausted they did seem like they cared along with 2 other women I just sadly can t remember their names ( 1 had medium grayish whiteish hair and the other I really can t remember much about but she checked me in and was very helpful calming me down ). I truly hope the staff here here get a raise soon and time off I know that job can be extremely stressful and exhausting especially dealing with teens. However, I still had a horrible experience due to the things I ve mentioned previously and also due to other circumstances that isn t necessarily the facility s fault. If you re a parent or a loved one looking to send your teenager here I would very strongly recommend you take your child somewhere else that is better suited for teens.

Okay here is an honest review. From my experience here this place is very understaffed. Some of the staff members where trying their best (some didint and treated patients horribly) and really didn't help personally. The therapist didn't necessarily hear you out, you could feel the disconnect and overall stress they are under. The school teacher was very sweet but same thing you can feel the pressure and stress. There is a massive lack of professionalism and I had a horrible experience with the social worker. There where fights, arguments and lots of tears. All of this horrible tension while trying to personally get better was impossible. To be honest all this facility did was drug you, no matter what you would leave with a new prescription. There where very small meals, short cold showers and very little to do. Patients where struggling to adjust here and you couldn't leave easily. We where all trapped and it is very very hard to leave this place, there are people who where kept for far to long. Honestly they will keep you as long as possible so they can send you a long bill. This place definitely has a prison feel, kinda claustrophobic and its very dirty. Many patients say you leave this place feeling worse. There is large lack of control and there where lots of extremely hard things to watch while I was there. If you are a parent please ask yourself if you want to hurt your child while they are down, that is what will happen here. Go somewhere else because this place really dosent do anything but hurt you.Roxbury you have left me with an experience that I can't forget, it's stuck in my head in the most negative way possible. These are kids who are struggling in real life going to this place that makes it hard to even survive a few weeks without this horrible experience. If you really want to help people do everyone a favor and please fix yourself.

I attended the his program 6 years ago and proud to say as of may 28th I celebrated 6 years. I couldn t have done it without the amazing staff that actually challenged me to deal with my problems. If you are actually willing to surrender and see that there is more than ur addiction you can do it. I am living proof. I thank everyone at Roxbury. I couldn t do it without you. I now am an operations manager at a treatment facility in Florida and thriving. Amanda was my counselor and she was absolutely amazing. Ms Lori was stern but fair. I highly recommend this place to anyone seeking help,

(Adolescent section, also my dad is STILL paying off the hospital bill, it s been a year.)I ve only been to a mental hospital once, and I ve never heard of this one before but once I was in there I immediately wanted to go home. First off, there was this one nurse who looked about in her early 20 s and she has these extremely long nails, long weave that was pealing off her forehead, and was rude. She only has respect for the older kids who were like 16/17. I was 14 years old and I popped my head in to my friends room and she yelled at me immediately, she had somewhat of a problem with me for no reason. But when I went to get a cup of water the one other girl was sitting in front of the boys room, right at their door entrance. I also got lice from this facility. When my dad came to pick me up, they ABSOLUTELY DID NOT tell him about it at all. I was so happy I got to leave that hell. The only nice staff member was this one lady with black long hair, and glasses I can t remember her name.. but these 2 girls were upset for some reason and kicked and punched a whole at the long hallway, and next to the cut phone line.

Please do yourself a favor and research the reputation of this facility before working here or sending your loved ones here. I wouldn't even send my worst enemy here. The DDAP hits this facility has is...not pretty. The previous google reviews paint a picture of the horrendous state of the different units of this so called "hospital". I have been in this facility, not as a patient, 9 years ago to visit someone. I knew a few former and current colleagues who worked there recently and in the past...According to recent ex-staff, this facility has not changed in the last 9 years. It's in total disarray. It looks straight out of a horror film. The people I know who worked there recently either quit due to not being heard or left for much better jobs at hospitals that adequately train and support their staff. There is no structure, no supervisors on the unit, Nurses, Counselors, CA/MHT you will see running from one end of a unit to the next to break up fights, find missing patients, etc. There is no direction whatsoever. Staff are not adequately trained to handle the patient population. Only one week of training is given to new hires...It's horrifying to say the least. Look out for the bright yellow lanyards the staff carry around their necks. These lanyards are given to staff that are new hires day 1 and switched to blue on their 90th day. They are everywhere. Be aware of the red flags of being hired on the spot. You will be lied to about what to expect in your interview. The pay is very low. There are much better paying jobs out there that don't mistreat staff. There is no security guards on any of the units. Staff get beat up pretty frequently. The facility does not care for their staff...only the money. The higher ups do not like young people and made it very evident to my colleague. Asking inappropriate questions in interviews about the life of my friend to try to manipulate them into staying. Look up gaslighting. It's what is done to. It's a crying shame what they put my friends through...The most compassionate people I know treated like dirt and judged harshly. I am begging upper management to take a good hard look in the mirror before treating your staff the way you do. How do you expect the patient's to get excellent care if you can't even retain staff? This facility is a revolving door. I won't be surprised when this facility makes headlines for their inevitable shut down.

UPDATE: Roxbury Transported my son via personal vehicle on 05/29 to Western Psych. I was not contacted by staff in regard to this until my son, who is a minor, was already in transit. He was also given a PRN which make him unable to walk or talk when he arrived to Wedtern Psych. It is still unclear if the PRN was given for the ride (which is illegal) or if something occurred prior. Roxbury failed to do a DOC TO DOC transfer so my son would be able to direct admit so he was left in the ER for over 12 hours before being placed inpatient! I have yet to hear back from anyone of higher status than Malia at Roxbury. I have emailed Risk Managenent Amanda Wagner, HR Terri Pendleton, and chief executive Shauna Mogerman. My son, fortunately, has been thriving since this transfer so it really makes me wonder what was really going on for my son to act out. My son reported to me that staff was rude and would tell him to "shut the F up". I would never recommend this place to ANYONE, not even my worst enemy! This is beyond disgusting and to then not even acknowledge that your facility dropped the ball and went against protocol just further proves this place is trash. Also, Malia did childline me but she was not aware that the county and state are on my son's treatment team so her claim is not being investigated. So just more salt to the woundHad to choose 1 star as 0 is not an option. My son has been here for almost 2 weeks. They just changed his medications yesterday and reported he was having a better day. I get a phone call on not only a Saturday but on a holiday weekend from Malia Black saying I need to pick my son up for a discharge because the facility cannot handle my son. I told Malia I cannot pick my son up as he went to Roxbury from a RTF, he's been placed for 2 years now. Malia stated he is still my kid and if I do not get him that she will turn me into CYS. She then proceeded to call my elderly, disabled mother to say I told her my son is not my problem, I'm being criminally charged, and that my son is saying he misses her, proceeds to ask my mom to come get him. My mom made her aware that she has no legal rights to my son so even if she could drive she could not take him out. I asked Malia during our conversation why the facility could not take him to the hospital as that is what his RTF did and she said they do not have the right to do so. I have since contacted his RTF who have informed me that this facility is not following protocol and I am in the right in not going to pick him up for discharge. Insurance plays into all of this and if I pick him up, it could be seen as incomplete treatment and we will lose all our progress up to this point on his placement. The unnecessary distress caused to me and my family is beyond not ok and unprofessional. If she can call my mother and say these things, what is she saying to my son right now about all of this!? I would recommend not sending ANY of your loved ones here.
