About Pocono Mountain Recovery Center

Pocono Mountain Recovery Center is a drug and alcohol rehab based in Henryville, Pennsylvania. The rustic, homey facility rests on 10 acres of sprawling countryside, surrounded by trees, lakes and walking trails. They offer residential addiction treatment, detox services, a partial hospitalization program and intensive outpatient services. They also have sober living facilities and an extensive aftercare program to help you transition from full time treatment into normal life. Their services are available to adults who are over the age of 18.

Their recovery process is largely based on the 12 Step principles, but it also makes use of traditional and experiential therapy methods. You’ll receive at least one hour-long individual therapy session each week, where you’ll work through the root causes of addictive behaviors and create goals for your recovery. You’ll also attend group sessions to develop coping skills, receive education on addiction and work on relapse prevention techniques. Pocono Mountain Recovery Center is big on getting your support system involved with your treatment, so they also facilitate family therapy sessions if you’d benefit from them.

During your stay, you can also participate in art therapy, music therapy, mindfulness and meditation sessions, yoga and role playing activities. These experiential methods help to round out your treatment plan so you’re tackling chemical dependency from every angle.

One thing I liked about their program is that they give you a lot of freedom in letting you customize your treatment plan. They have a bunch of elective activities you can choose to get involved with every day. They also set aside free time every day for you to partake in recreational activities or to reflect on everything you learned that day.

Probably the only place I would go to get help. I sadly made an error in judgement and lost my place in the best place where the help is really real! The entire staff is respectful. They keep you busy and engaged the entire time.I shall take this as a learning experience. They will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you all for being caring and empathetic and really there for us. I don't like the word "regret" so I will use my error as a learning curve and move forward. Thank you Mell, Joe, Lu, Steve, Sam, Kyle, Darnell, Nurse Ann ( I am sorry if I forgot anyone). You are all beautiful people and thank you for being you:)

I wasn't here, but my 19 year old son was. He had been to about 11 rehabs in 2 years. This is one of the two he actually completed. Why? Because it is nice. And they give you freedom other rehabs don't. So it is not of a respect me, and I'll respect you type. Which should be like that everywhere. They'd get much more results. And the other rehab he competed, is their sister company. It is an old motel. But one a person sets up with a home. The food is a buffet. And you can eat when you want. You can smoke and vape. You can't vape at any other rehab. Not that we know of, anyway. And there is a waterfall. This is three best you can get. And you have to own your shit. And deal with life. That is the key to a success. I didn't come on here to rate any other rehab. Bcz they weren't rateable. But this deserved me to come on and rate it so others can read how fabulous this one is.

Literally one of the worst places on the PLANET. Don t trust a place that has to make a sales video on their website to make you come there. I work in the recovery field. My loved one couldn t be treated at my place of work because of conflict and he decided to go to here. He ended up in the emergency room under their care. They denied him subutex for 95 hours because they were worried about precip (if you know anything about withdrawal you know this is RIDICULOUS). They dropped him off with none of his belongings, on the side of the road, incoherent, and 6 miles away from his home. Thank god a STRANGER assisted him with contacting me. Every time I call to inquire about his belongings they hang up on me. DO NOT GO HERE. WHATEVER YOU DO. If you consider going here- You re close enough to Syracuse where you can get quality care and not be treated like animal, offered your substance of use inside the facility, and robbed of your belongings. Somebody burn this place down with all of the staff inside of it, please.

Accepted Insurance

Pocono Mountain Recovery Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients receiving services from a rehab aftercare program are usually stable and in the maintenance phase of recovery, having completed detox and/or intensive inpatient treatment. Rehab aftercare services can vary widely based on clients' individual and evolving needs, but often include peer coaching, relapse prevention support, 12 step program induction, and medical, mental health, and social service referrals. Individual care plans are typically developed by the client in partnership with their case manager and care team.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober living houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle. Pocono Mountain Recovery Center offers gender specific houses with structured environments with a 24/7 staff to supervise residents.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don't require 24-hour care. The PHP at Pocono includes medication management, individual therapy, group therapy, experiential therapy and family counseling.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members. There are a variety of topics that may be covered during group therapy sessions, which can include things like coping skills development, disease education, and relapse prevention.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation. Family members are encouraged to participate in their loved one’s therapeutic process at least once during the patient's time in treatment, yet sessions can occur on an ongoing basis, based on each individual’s preference and/or clinical need.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional "talk therapy" by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing. Examples of the types of experiential therapies that we offer include art therapy, music therapy, mindfulness, meditation, role playing, and yoga.

I'm not sure what kind of place is being run here but to do what you're doing to someone who is a client there is completely unacceptable. If things are rectified respectfully I'll update my review.

Horrible experience. Do not go expecting quality service or any type of therapeutic or professional care. If you have private insurance DEFINITELY go elsewhere. Or be stupid and go to this filthy prison with medical quacks. PMRC made my life worse. I ended up in the emergency room under their care. That should say it all. AFTER YOUR LUDICROUS response, what I actually should have focused on is the fact that drugs are freely available at this so-called detox/addiction center. A pack of cigarettes and I could get heroin there. Luckily I only drink alcohol.

(update) I now have 4 years of sobriety as of 5/5/2024. Thank you so much PMRC. Ya'll saved my life. The staff really care. The facility is ahead of the game as far as recovery is concerned. From the CEO and Clinical Director all the way to House Keeping and Food Service, I was greeted with a warm smile and ultimate concern for my care and well being for each and every one of my 28 days at the facility. I loved it there, and I guess it s weird to say that about a rehab but that s the only way I can describe how this facility made me feel. Today I am a grateful person in recovery and they definitely helped me in my earliest (and worst) days of sobriety.

First problem is that my son was put in a PHP program, basically a halfway house, which is ridiculous considering he went there from a hospital due to issues with his previous rehab putting him back on suboxone! Instead of putting him in their full care program they just pumped him with drugs. He had little to no counseling and had zero interaction with the family! Then, to top it off, at my advise, my son took the suboxone shot to try to wean off of it. The day after he got the shot he asked for a suboxone film AND THEY GAVE IT TO HIM!!! Then they promptly kicked him out for "med seeking behavior"!!! And they literally dropped him on a street corner. If you care about your loved one DO NOT BRING THEM HERE!!! He's now at St Joseph institute, a fully holistic rehab program that will hopefully undo the damage the last two places did to this poor kid.
