About Nsight Mental Health & Wellness

Nsight Mental Health and Wellness, located in Newport Beach, California, offers residential mental health and alcohol and drug rehab, partial hospitalization programs (PHPs), and intensive inpatient programs (IOPs) for adults. Services include dual-diagnosis treatment, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and ketamine treatment and/or transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for depression. They also offer legal diversion programs, transitional living, and aftercare.

MAT can help those who struggle with alcohol or opioid misuse control cravings and reduce the chance of relapse. MAT involves using FDA-approved medication over a longer timeframe, along with evidence-based addiction care, to achieve long-term recovery.

Residential treatment services at Nsight include crisis services, individual and group therapy, medication management, ketamine or TMS treatment when appropriate, MAT, addiction education, and relapse prevention. Approaches may include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and other evidence-based methods.

The PHP is generally a full-time day program, and the IOP meets multiple times per week for several hours per session. At Nsight, services are the same as residential treatment, and participants have the option to live in the program’s transitional housing. When treatment ends, aftercare support includes ongoing support groups, check-ins, an alumni group and app, and regular alumni events.

Nsight Mental Health and Wellness accepts most PPO plans, including Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, HealthNet, Cigna, and United Healthcare. Every insurance plan is different, so be sure to verify coverage information and out-of-network details with your insurer directly.

I'm embarrassed to say I had been to a few treatment centers before I was fortunate to be placed at Nsight, although I know that's true for many people who struggle with their mental health and addiction. If you experienced trauma during childhood or at any point in your life and it affects your mental health, or you're not even sure if it does but you struggle with addiction, Nsight is the place for you. There is no other treatment center like it. Their program, groups, counselors and housing are one of a kind. The environment is kept professional unlike many other facilities. The counselors are actually educated and experienced as well as empathetic and relationship based. Nsight is so different in so many ways from other treatment centers. Nsight saved and forever changed my life. It is through Nsight that I found myself. I graduated and walked out of their program a literally completely different and better person. I went home and my mom cried and said she had no idea this is who I am and that I am actually such a beautiful, kind and fun person. After struggling with depression, anxiety, addiction and other diagnosis that were inaccurate. I owe my life today to Nsight, their program and their counselors. I cannot recommend this program enough. If you're on the fence between choosing Nsight and another place - choose Nsight. You won't regret it.

i am court ordered and been a previous client in the past my experience continues to be negative. When i was a resident the owner Mary Helen had no desire to help the clients and make sure we had a safe environment. She treated the staff like slaves and fired the house cleaner and made the only hard worker Quinn do everything which was absolutely horrible.Mary Helen made sure her office was presentable and high end over the rooms that carried our classes which was white walls and chairs nothing more. Felt like i was in a mental hospital. Let me tell you how the owner Mary Helen didn't take care of the residential property accordingly and we had to live in a motel because of the infestation of termites that been goin on for months. There were staff favorites people would cheat on their pee test and breathalyzers would be stolen on top of that the staff would be secretly having unprofessional affairs with clients which clearly Mary helen doesn't do proper background checks on her staff. This is why i would not recommend your love ones to invest in a place that the owner doesn't properly do her job. 10 grand a month is a whole lot of money for a place that doesn't invest in you, especially when she consistently fires the therapist and the staff but drives in a bentley and never acknowledges each individual client.Think wisely and good luck

Accepted Insurance

Nsight Mental Health & Wellness works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy in California is a method that therapists often use for the effective treatment of substance use disorders. It is based on the principle that substance abuse stems from unhelpful ways of thinking and patterns of behavior, which can be changed by helping the individual learn better ways of coping.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

I received the best care and attention I ever had at a treatment center, the counselors were genuinely invested in my recovery and educated me well in tools I use to this very day, every day. The living quarters were spacious and clean. I wouldn't be where I'm at now without this program. Thank you Nsight!!

Dr, Herring was incredibly helpful throughout the entirety of my process through the court system, ultimately being granted the opportunity into the diversion program. She always offered her support along the way, and was open about her personal experience in her own healing and journey in recovery. I highly recommend her services and with NSight Recovery.

I will never be able to say Thank You sufficiently to the staff of Nsight and most particularly Dr. Herring for all their efforts on my son's behalf. Dr. Herring's attention to my son's needs during his time at Nsight and to the details of his case were extraordinary. For that alone I am so appreciative. And then Dr. Herring's efforts in court to literally save my son's life places her in the stratosphere of those few who go that extra distance. She is an amazing person. We are so blessed she came into our lives. For those who are suffering from addiction and want to live a life in recovery, she is a life saver. She most certainly was ours.

Nsight SAVED MY LIFE. While attending the Intensive Outpatient Program at Nsight I was blessed to interact with most of their amazing staff. I want to highlight and attribute the well being I have today to Dr. Herring who walked me through everything. Literally holding my hand and answering all my questions regardless the time of day and/or night. As well as my initial and current therapist Cody who has grounded me and help me grow as an individual. My experience has been one of the upmost professionalism, compassion and instrumental to my recovery. They gave me the tools, guidance and love I needed to overcome my addiction as well as the situation my addiction placed me in.I cannot recommend Nsight enough! I am forever grateful for the care I have received is an understatement. Nsight saved my family's life as well as mine with the consistent updates and progress as well as coaching on how to handle everything going on. I pray this location gets the recognition it deserves. THANK YOU Dr. Herring for being an actual Angel. She is the greatest person with the kindest heart I have ever met. She walks on water and I will never forget the endless time and effort she put in to make sure I was okay on a daily basis and ensured me with a positive attitude that I would get through this terrible time in my life. I am proud to be an Alumni of Nsight Recovery and I will be interacting and participating for the foreseeable future.THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

I have been working closely with Dr. Herring for nearly 15 years. I handle a lot of addiction cases that unfortunately end up in the criminal courts. Dr. Herring has been my "go to" from the first case we worked on together. She is the most experienced, knowledgable and caring Psychologist I know, especially in the areas of addiction. She truly cares about each and every patient she works with. Most importantly, she has the highest success rate in helping patients overcome their addictions! She also has a very great reputation with judges, deputy district attorneys and defense attorneys throughout Southern California. I have heard judges numerous times compliment her on her work and success in helping her patients. If you or one of your loved ones are fighting addiction or need assistance with mental health issues, I promise you, you will not find someone who will be more dedicated and caring to help you. She is an angel to many and has helped countless people overcome their addictions.

Response from the owner1 year ago
Thank you Bob. You are among the best of the best criminal attorneys in Southern California. We know that you go above and beyond in service of your clients and your feedback is important to us. We'll be sure to let Dr. Herring know that you gave her such glowing feedback.
