My 12 year old son stayed at Beachside for two months in the spring and we brought home a changed child. After struggling with some significant trauma, the counselors that worked with my son were truly wonderful. The weekend activities were excellent including boating and trips to amusement parks. During the week, he learned to surf, completed his school curriculum so that he could graduate from his regular education elementary school, and took hikes at beautiful locations around Malibu. He loved the food, and participated in group and music therapy as well as individual counseling. We spoke on the phone most nights and had great weekend visits. My son is now a thriving 7th grader, enjoying school and close relationships with his friends. I would encourage anyone struggling to give your child the gift of this healing environment.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Clients receiving treatment at an outpatient rehab typically do not require hospitalization or intensive supervision and support. Outpatient addiction counseling and recovery education are often offered during the morning, evening, night, and weekend, allowing clients to tailor treatment to their own schedule. Partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs are the most time-intensive and are designed for clients who are at an increased relapse risk and/or who need more robust therapeutic support.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) support a client's sustained sobriety as they exit detox or step down from an inpatient program. IOPs are also designed for clients who are at an elevated risk of relapse. Intensive outpatient treatment typically requires clients to engage in a minimum of nine hours of therapy per week, but clients may receive up to 20 therapeutic hours weekly. IOP treatment modalities often combine psychotherapy, recovery-focused life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs offer clients in addiction recovery a robust continuum of care after clients have completed active treatment. These services address recovery as a life-long process and are designed to evolve with clients' changing needs. Clients may partner with their case managers and/or addiction recovery team to identify the rehab aftercare services that are right for them. They may receive career counseling, housing assistance, peer coaching, 12 step program induction, among many other services.
12-step icon12-Step
Participants engaged in 12 step programs receive intensive peer coaching (sponsorship) and community support. Spiritual development as a means of achieving psychological and emotional healing and growth is the cornerstone of 12 step recovery, but religious affiliations are not required. Meetings are free, anonymous, and open to the public, though specialized formats are available, including groups for seniors, teens, and family members. Evening, night, and day meetings are conducted year-round in most communities.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober living homes in California offers an intermediate sober environment that has less structure than inpatient rehab but more than typical home environments. This makes it a good option for those who have concerns about transitioning back to the "real world" after treatment. Residents can typically live at the halfway house as long as they want, if they are willing to follow house rules. These may include a curfew, chores, and maintaining a job.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
During the first phase of recovery – detox – it is crucial to have 24-hour clinical care in California. This care provides constant monitoring in order to ensure your safely and comfort as you progress through the withdrawal process for drug or alcohol addiction. Licensed professionals prescribe medications to treat withdrawal symptoms and provide frequent monitoring to ensure your safely as addictive toxins leave your system.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
When addicted, quitting your drug of choice suddenly can be dangerous. That's why experts agree a medically assisted detox is the safest way to remove addictive substances from the body. Usually done in an inpatient setting, your vitals signs and overall well being are consistently monitored and rechecked in order to keep you safe and ensure the detox is successful.

Treatments

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

For clients who are struggling with ambivalence toward change, motivational interviewing in California can help strengthen their commitment to change. Using a conversational method, the therapist helps you explore your motivations and empowers you to make the changes you desire.

Trauma therapy is a structured approach used by therapists to help you heal from a past traumatic event. Your therapist works with you to identify the traumatic memory and process the information so you experience emotional healing and a sense of safety and stability.

The goal of couples therapy in California is to strengthen the couple's relationship. The therapist may take one or more approaches to counseling which may include the Gottman method, emotionally focused therapy, behavioral therapy, and psychodynamic couple's therapy.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Anxiety has turned into such a buzzword as of late. Hearing it so often ended up desensitizing us to some issues our son was going through. Anxiety is not something to put a generic label on and be cavalier about, it’s real and has a big effect on your life. I’m so glad ... Read More

The fact that treatments are based on the individual is terrific. Everyone is different and she did not need a cookie-cutter program. The treatments offered at Beachside are multi-disciplined and it is the perfect fit for a person that needs addiction help.

Never having to deal with any type of mental health issue; our child lost a friend and has been dealing with ptsd and that has really rocked her world, she is missing school, has just become recluse and so we weren't able to help so having a support team like Beachside was just what we needed and they have totally helped her come to terms and begin to heal from such a horrific situation.

The team of doctors and therapists are the best of the best. You can feel that they truly care about their patients and that they are people in crisis, but human first and that's what shows in the care they receive. We saw it first hand with the care and concern our daughter received and she is now thriving. We are grateful for everything Beachside Teen Treatment did for our family

Our niece has been dealing with anxiety since before the pandemic and had started taking a turn down a scary path. We were there with her parents when reaching out to Beachside and what a tremendous help they have been in helping her deal with her anxiety and substance abuse. They have an amazing team there to support and who are dedicated to their clients.

when i was there in the summer of 2021 it started off ok but within the first two weeks I had gotten kicked out. i had gotten kicked out because i had a mental breakdown because i missed home and my parents. they did nothing to help me calm down but called 911. the cops came and handcuffed me and took me away, so i had to leave beachside because the cops put a hold on me . in the time i was there, there was only one therapist for 6 kids and was there 1 day a week. There was also a male staff member who would make fun of me for eating if i had got seconds. The staff had also told lies about me saying i was trying to get everyone to run away in reality I tried to get people to stay because i knew the reality of what the system is like if they did leave. I would NEVER go back and i recommend if you want help for your child you do not take them there.

I as an adult suffered from anxiety and my daughter is now struggling along with her inability to want to be around people and has made some comments that were concerning to us. Beachside has been great in helping our daughter navigate her anxiety in different ways than just medicine. They also help the family navigate as it is a family problem not just a child problem. We are so grateful to have found such a wonderful program.

The team at Beachside is so attentive to our daughter's needs. She was struggling and we thought she would perk back up once in person school started but she didn't and her grades were declining and so reaching out to Beachside was a great step and they are already seeing improvements and are so happy things are looking up.

Covid did no favors to our already introverted daughter but add a level of anxiety that she tried to fix with drugs and alcohol. Knowing they were going to get to the root of the issue and there is therapy for her is terrific, But even more important is that they involve the family in the recovery whenever possible and that means a lot. So happy with her progress!

Anxiety can be manageable for some of us, crippling for others. My teen daughter had major anxiety that started in middle school and just continued and then escalated when she got into high school. At it's most sever point, when was suffering from weekly panic attacks. Finally sought out a treatment center for her and landed upon Beachside. We took a tour of the facility and she and I both agreed this could be the thing to get her feeling better. After their care, she's now feeling much better and in control of her anxiety for the first time in years.

These programs are disgusting and frequently hide child abuse and neglect. If you re thinking about sending your child here, they probably just need more attention and support. If you do, you are an awful parent.
