About Westborough Behavioral Healthcare Hospital

Westborough Behavioral Healthcare Hospital in Westborough, Massachusetts, is a mental health hospital for adults, teens, and children. Here, you can participate in inpatient programs, intensive outpatient programs, and partial hospitalization programs. Rather than force treatment on a strict timetable, they determine your length of stay based on your needs.

When it comes to mental health, the term “recovery” is sometimes misunderstood by those new to treatment. Unlike recovering from disease or injury, recovery from mental and behavioral health concerns is a lifelong process. That’s why many treatment facilities offer ongoing aftercare support to graduates.

But what Westborough Behavioral Healthcare Hospital does that I find very interesting is care coordination. They want to ensure you have the support you need to prepare for the ongoing post treatment journey. Staff will work with you before your discharge date to introduce you to supportive community resources and other recommended facilities, if necessary, to help you maintain your path of recovery.

Worst hospital ever to be at lack of experience and all nurses would stay in their office closed and all staff not interacting with patients at all. The environment is horrible and they are lack of providing interpreters too so I try my hardest and best to stay away from this place as possible

I went to Westborough Behavioral for 2 weeks, during COVID-19 where I couldn t see my parents, barely any communication with anyone, here it feels more like a penitentiary. Barely anything to do there. I was restrained for refusing my medication and not calming down when I only needed comfort, so I was dragged to the seclusion room and given doses of calm injection and hurt a lot, 5 minutes in there crying and soon quiet and numb. I was sore later. The nurses and the staff here don t care about you. Do NOT send your child here. They might come out traumatized and worser than they were before, just like me. UPDATE 2024: This was in May 2021 - June 2021. There also few others thing I wanted to say so during that time I don t remember I single day I got to talk to a therapist. It s quite boring. It felt like some sort of boarding school, then a place for helping others get better mentally. This place needs lots of improvement based on reviews at this hospital. Train your staff better and do background checks just in case you hire some crook technicians that be beating up children. I am praying this place changes.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient programs are designed for clients who are medically stable and not at an elevated risk of relapse, including those who have already completed inpatient care. Outpatient programs typically advance clients' established treatment plans, offering continuing addiction counseling and recovery education. Clients who enter outpatient care immediately following detox may also receive medical and mental health assessments and personalized treatment plans. Most outpatient rehabs provide multiple levels of care to align with clients' unique needs.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

The staff beat up my boyfriend twice within a week. The second time was so severe that he had to be taken to the ER at the Marlborough Hospital (15 min drive away) for an urgent CAT scan of the head for a concussion, a busted eye (his eye was bleeding) and a busted lip. They beat him up for smoking in the room. I called the Westborough police and they told me this is not the first time that a patient at Westboro Behavioral Health was taken to the ER at a nearby hospital after being beaten up by hospital staff.

Dr Khan is truly exceptional, offering compassionate care by attentively listening to her patients and their families, and taking the time to clearly explain the complexities of mental health and its potential impacts. Her informative approach and unwavering support have been invaluable. This hospital has made a significant positive difference in the life of my loved one.

I was a patient at this facility a few years ago. The reason I'm writing this review now is because a friend of mine was recently sent to that facility. From what he described, it might be worse than when I was there. I'll only speak of my experience, which was so bad that I will never seek inpatient treatment for my depression again. I voluntarily went to the ER because I wasnt doing well, and they ended up sending me there. First, there is nothing for patients to do. They have no books. No recovery books even though they claim to treat substance abuse. The staff are underpaid and not valued by the owners of this company. I call it a company because they are a for profit mental health facility. All they truly care about is making money by scamming vulnerable people and their insurance companies. I expected to only be there for a few days while I got on medication and the social worker set me up with outpatient services. Their social workers have way too many patients. This place has a terrible client to social worker ratio because it saves money. Many people recieved no meaningful help at all when it came to placement. People without good insurance get discharged quickly. The real crime in my opinion is what they try to do to Medicare patients like myself. The doctor there(I think it was doctor Kahn), tried to commit me when I signed a 3day discharge. The reason had nothing to do with my safety or state of mind. I had to get a lawyer to get out of there before they trapped me for an indefinite amount of time. My lawyer was shocked that she attempted to commit me. I was of sound mind when I first went to seek treatment. My diagnosis is anxiety disorder and depression. People dont get involuntary commitments for that. So this hack doctor was going to bring me before a judge, but at the last minute she backed down. She knew a judge wouldnt commit me, and it would have made her look bad. I will never again seek treatment even if I need it because this place traumatized me. I know for a fact that they only tried to keep me against my will because my insurance would pay indefinitely. Its disgusting how little they care about ment health. Its just another greedy and exploitative corporation.I also have a warning for parents. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD THERE! The staff that spend most of their time with your kids are underpaid, understaffed, and overworked. If you put your child there, they will rightfully never trust you again. They also strip search everyone, including victims of abuse and people with PTSD. I saw several women crying about that. I didnt write this review before because I didnt want anyone to know i was in a mental health facility. I feel it is too important to not warn people about this horrible place. I think there should be an investigation into their practices, and they should face a class action lawsuit.

My husband spent two weeks there and got out feeling worse. They had him on unnecessary medication. The communication was very poor the time he was there. I was never able to talk toa nurse or anyone besides his therapist who had no clue what she was doing. I was terrified the whole time my husband was in there. Please if you love someone don t let them go in there. I didn t choose this place for him. He was transferred from the ER. I feel sorry that my husband spent two weeks of his life there. This place is horrible! Unprofessional! The front desk Taylor is condescending and has no respect for family members that are going through a hard time. Really terrible!!
