About Wasatch Crest Treatment Services

Wasatch Crest Treatment Services has a men’s facility in Heber City, Utah. It provides an extensive range of programs for guys with addictions to drugs, alcohol disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders. They have detox and various residential and outpatient programs.

Their campus is set in a mountain landscape with 14,800 square feet. It was originally built for the 2002 Olympics, and you can tell that the center has an adventurous air among the Wasatch Mountains. There are lots of outdoor amenities, from hiking to playing volleyball, to watching over farm animals. Up to 20 guests can stay at a given time.

As for the indoors, there’s a large focus on community activities. There’s plenty of meeting spaces for group therapy, a community dining hall, and semi-private rooms. You can partake in an indoor gym, play billiards or table tennis, or just socialize with the other guys and share your experiences.

Let’s talk briefly about their programs. Detox is their first step in treatment and is managed by medical professionals to regulate any withdrawal symptoms safely. This phase is considered essential for stabilizing patients before moving into deeper therapeutic work.

Residential treatment provides a safe environment with around-the-clock patient support after detox. It offers intensive, evidence-based treatments, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and trauma-informed care. The goal is to help the clients gain insight into and identify why they are addicted in the first place while adopting a more positive way of coping.

A unique aspect of Wasatch Crest is that they offer dual diagnosis treatment geared specifically toward clients dealing with both substance use disorders and a co-occurring mental health disorder, such as depression, anxiety or PTSD. This kind of treatment ensures that both problems are tackled simultaneously, and this is important for a long-term recovery.

Wasatch Crest accepts multiple insurance plans, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Cigna. The admissions team is your best resource for more information about accepted plans and the type of coverage they offer, or you can check their website.

Wasatch Crest was an incredible and life changing experience. It worked because of the experience from the staff and dealing with their own addiction problems that they figured out how to overcome. I would highly recommend this facility for anyone looking for a second chance to get it right.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Clients often choose to enter intensive outpatient programs (IOP) when they exit inpatient rehab. Others turn to IOP as an alternative to hospitalization. Intensive outpatient rehabs offer high-level care for clients in early recovery and those at an elevated risk of relapse, typically requiring them to commit to between nine and 20 hours of treatment per week. The most prevalent treatment modalities include psychotherapy, recovery education, medication assisted treatment (MAT), and holistic therapies, such as meditation.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
If your friend or family member is suffering physically or psychologically from substance use but denies there is a problem, it might be time for a drug intervention in Utah. This process involves meeting with an intervention specialist from a facility's intervention services program. This specialist will interview family members to gain an understanding of the situation, then facilitate the intervention. Their expertise can prove invaluable in navigating this complex confrontation.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you enter a drug rehab in Utah, the process usually involves four stages: treatment initiation, early abstinence, maintaining abstinence, and advanced recovery. Treatment methods can rely on medications, counseling, or both, in either an outpatient or inpatient setting.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

equine-therapy iconEquine Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

The foundation of motivational interviewing in Utah rests on four pillars: partnership, evocation, acceptance, and compassion. The therapist collaborates with the client, encouraging them to explore their options and make informed decisions about making changes in their lives.

Trauma therapy addresses the psychological impact of traumatic events. Together with a therapist, you identify the impact that trauma has had on your life and the factors that trigger emotional and physical responses. You develop better coping mechanisms to rebuild a sense of safety and trust in your life.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Specialists trained in creative arts therapy can incorporate methods such as art, music, and writing therapy in your treatment program. These expressive methods may be combined with psychodynamic therapy and mindfulness based approaches.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

I have been through treatment before and unfortunately relapsed which is what brought me to Wasatch Crest. This has been a life saving/changing experience. The support and guidance provided is top notch and ALL the employees from the very top to the very bottom are stellar individuals. Whenever I needed anything, had questions/concerns, needed guidance, etc., they were always available to me. The group sessions, therapy sessions, and group outings were so much appreciated. I felt spoiled with the delicious meals that we received daily. I absolutely loved the all women environment as it really helped me open up with confidence. It was here that I felt valued and like my opinion and feelings mattered. I found a voice here which is something I ve struggled with my whole life. I could go on and on with only positive feedback. I would 1,000,000% recommend Wasatch Crest to any woman who is battling drug and/alcohol addiction. You will be glad you did!

Wasatch crest was a great treatment experience for me. Amazing people who can relate with you. People who have been through battles with addiction and mental health. I was treated more like family rather than client which is one thing I appreciated and needed. The activities I experienced ranged from equine therapy, fun centers, driving range, movie theatre, cold plunge, lake days, camping, ping pong, pool table, etc and seems to be catered to the current clients interests. Every Sunday they provide a family day where a very nice open lunch/dinner is prepared by a chef for you and your family to enjoy. The house and property is spacious with plenty of room for you to enjoy, they have a huge gym with a full set of dumbbells and barbells, squat rack, treadmill, etc. I hope they get their stationary bike, elliptical, and rowing machine gets fixed. Either way they have a great setup and allow you to use the gym as often as desired. Most treatment centers I ve been to have been either too confined or very restricted, you will not experience this at Wasatch crest where there is plenty of freedom, space and time for yourself to think, read, unwind, socialize. The property is so big and out of the way, I noticed some would take advantage and use free time for morning/night walks/laps around the property (of course with a buddy)They have a big sports court you re able to use for group activities such as pickle ball or basketball. I hope they put in a new basketball hoop and refinish the court, however despite its limitation we were still able to amply enjoy the court!Overall I really enjoyed my time at Wasatch crest and would recommend above any other treatment I ve experienced. I appreciate how they didn t micro manage you or force you to do anything you didn t want to or feel like. I really appreciate and am impressed with the quality staff/people who are invested in connecting with and helping you. No treatment center will fix your problems but these guys get it, and will provide support and guidance in the right direction. There is also a strong focus on getting you acquainted with AA/NA, which is important.I highly recommend Wasatch crest, and would recommend taking advantage of the sober living, php, iop programs also offered.

Wasatch Crest was an amazing experience. Not only was it in the beautiful area of Heber Utah just 15 minutes from Park City, it was a great emotionally growing experience as well. The Therapists took their time to actually listen all the way, and then gave feedback and helpful insight I might have overlooked otherwise. The Night Staff was amazing at coming up with activities and genuinely seemed interested in me as a person. And the Alumni Coordinator took the time to get me involved with Recovery related Sports and Events after my inpatient experience was done. Highly recommended.A+++
