I have been to some rotten hospitals, but this one is the worst! Was there for surgery, and ended up being there for 7 hours, for a surgery that lasted 15 to 20 minutes. You would ask a nurse for information, and always the answer was, "I don't know". Even the nurses in the procedure room had the same answer. What the hell, they work in there all day long and can't answer simple questions. Makes you wonder what they know to do in surgery!!!I do not recommend this hospital for any procedures. Not even a check up!

On oct 26 my dad was taken at 1:30 am to the Ed.Upon me arriving as a former Mgh employee I looked around at the unbelievable look of trash cans overflowing everywhere. The person who was the housekeeper for Ed was sitting down in the front entry cage bullshitting. He walk around finally dressed very unprofessional and looking like a slob (great image) upon his departure the trash cans where all still overflowing even the bathroom where dirty and overflowing with garbage. I find this totally disgusting and unacceptable and unprofessional wish I was allowed to take pictures but as the housekeeper he should be ashamed of himself with the way Ed looked. Off I the time thier not once did I see his cleaning cart move it sat in front of the nurses station until he left. If this is the type of work the housekeepers do then what else is dirty in the hospital

I had surgery here in February with follow up radiation in the fall. The doctors, nurses, techs and other staff have been compassionate and professional in the treatment of my cancer. This include inter-departmental communication & billing. The hospital is modern, clean and easy to access with plenty of parking.

Accepted Insurance

UP Medical Group | Marquette Behavioral Health works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Clients in inpatient rehab reside at the treatment facility while engaging in intensive daily treatment. Inpatient care is primarily designed for clients leaving detox, those in early recovery, and those at an elevated risk of relapse. Clients participate in intensive addiction counseling, which may include group and family therapy as well as one-on-one sessions. Recovery-focused life skills training is also often prioritized. Many inpatient rehabs offer evidence-based complementary therapies, such as yoga, meditation, art therapy, and animal therapy.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients engaged in a rehab aftercare program have already completed high-level treatment and have begun to develop essential recovery skills. Rehab aftercare services are designed to support clients' sustained sobriety as they reintegrate into their home, workplace, and community. Case managers, care teams, and clients design the customized service portfolio that will best support the client's long-term sobriety. Clients may receive peer coaching, 12 step program induction, vocational training, and relapse prevention services.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

The most dehumanizing experience of my life. I ve yet to meet one person who has had a good experience here, every story is a horror story. Nurses had to poke me 4 different times to get the IV in, made comments how everyone goes through this , made a comment how I guess you don t need birth control because I was there with my partner as if medical professionals don t know that people are on it for a variety of reasons??? Was there for 12 hours and received no treatment other than an ultrasound which they then used a different finding (that is not a risk at all) as an excuse to ignore why I went in. The medicine I was told I was being prescribed was never sent to the pharmacy. Point being maybe if you see that someone has never been to the hospital in their entire life and they tell you they are in excruciating pain believe them. I could be bleeding out and I would have someone take me to the next nearest hospital before I ever step foot into that ER again.

I was taken in an ambulance from urgent care to the hospital due to an anaphylactic reaction where I could not speak or walk. No meds were administered in the ambulance, which would have been fine, but I was taken directly from the ambulance cot and put into the ER waiting room upon arrival because there weren't any rooms open. Nobody acknowledged me for another hour while I sat in the waiting room. I thought coming in via ambulance was a clear indication that I needed help, and that it was urgent.

I was in there 8-8-24,It s a very busy place look around, it s a large hospital with many specialists, in fact one of only around with that, they can t help the wait time many people get flown in, and or ambulance, from miles away, anyway with that I got to experience a dilemma with staff and a angry person, the person stated he was upset about the staff allegedly calling police on him for spanking his kid, also this person was swearing in front of people and children in waiting area, I just want to say the staff did a great job of dealing with the nut job, and they did the right thing

This emergency room is by far the worst experience in an ER I've ever had. I waited 4 hours to be taken back, after a rough wait.I was advised to go to the Marquette ER by my orthopedic surgeon so I could see the orthopedic on call and get an MRI for my injury and undergo emergency surgery if needed.I am unable to walk, they did not provide a wheelchair nor ask me if they could even help me in anyway to get around. Luckily I had my walker I hopped around with, but with injuries to my hands and arms from my injury, it did make it hard. They took people with a runny nose, a lady who saw an aurora around her head and thought it was blocking her chakras, and a lady who was there for med-refills before anyone else in the waiting room.I asked two nurses why they were taking people back that just walked in 3+ hours after I've been waiting and they told me to read the posting on the wall. They told me those people needed emergency care before others based on their color chart for what's urgent. The triage guy came out screaming at me to shut up because nobody wants to hear me asking why I was not taken back. He screamed in my face and everyone there witnessed. Literally, screamed at me. I told him his customer service skills were unprofessional and I wasn't going to have a man scream in my face. I'm paying for a service and his job is to calm anyone who's upset, not add fuel to the fire. When I was taken back I was given a bed in the hallway, never offered help to get on the bed, so I had to stand there on 1 leg in the hallway. They came over gave me a leg brace and asked how they should put it on, because I wasn't in the bed. I explained I needed help onto the bed and they walked away. They told me it wasn't broken or sprained (via the X-ray), then discharged me with a diagnosis of a sprained knee.*First, I was treated with complete disrespect after I was simply trying to understand why several people were taken back before me and others that waited hours with serious emergency department worthy reasons to be seen. We were dismissed like we were nothing.*Second, I don't understand how this hospital can employ evil workers who don't care about compassion, calmness, and healing people. They allow their workers to be completely horrible, disrespectful, and mean to patients.*Third, I was misdiagnosed by this medical team (which is illegal). I have an ACL injury, not a sprained knee like they wrote in my discharge papers. Malpractice is not taking the time to find the actual diagnosis and treatment or giving a misdiagnosis.*Fourth, I never would have asked the nurses if I had been notified when I arrived about their system. If someone could have explained their color chart in the beginning, maybe that guy wouldn't have screamed at me and I wouldn't have had to ask the nurses anything.DON'T GO TO THIS HOSPITAL, THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY & COVID COUNTS, NOT THE GOOD PEOPLE IN THE UP or the visitors whom need medical emergency attention, for real. This hospital left me crying and feeling an urge to hire an attorney. They did not fulfill any passion, confidence, healing, understanding, or hope to anyone I witnessed there.I waited 4 hours to be seen in the waiting room and spent 10 minutes in a hallway receiving no proper care.If I could give it zero stars I would.STAY AWAY FROM THIS INSTITUTION.
