About TLC Health Network

TLC Health Network is an addiction treatment facility within Brooks Hospital that sits in Derby, New York. They treat adolescents over 13 and adults with substance use disorders and behavioral health issues. Their outpatient services include a lot of different options, and they offer services for those with DUIs. If you require proper and safe detoxing services, their medication assisted treatment applies doses of Suboxone and Vivitrol in order to minimize your withdrawal symptoms and uncomfortable cravings that you might experience. Without this assistance, it can be very dangerous to quit opioids and alcohol on your own.

Their outpatient program offers individual and group therapy with certified providers. They have gender specific groups for men and women as well as family programming. Individual and group therapy both offer unique ways to combat your addiction and prepare yourself whenever you’re tempted to relapse. You’ll also have access to recovery planning and learn coping skills that will keep you sober when temptation hits in the outside world. If you’re an adolescent or know one who needs help, they have specific adolescent groups as well.

I walked in off the street for assistance with marijuana and alcohol when things got out of hand for me. I found this place to be incredibly unprofessional, and could barely stand to sit through my first two intake hours (yes, they need 2 hours to fill out some paperwork, hour 1, and then ask you some simple background questions, hour 2).The receptionist sits in a dusty office without a window where anyone who isn't busy working or smoking is hanging out, and standing in your way. I wasn't even sure she was the receptionist my first time there, and sat in the waiting room for several minutes waiting for her room to clear out before asking. Then while I'm giving her my personal, confidential, and frankly embarassing information, a guy pokes his head in the door "I don't know if anyone cares, but the DOW just lost 500 points." No, I don't care, and I wanted to slam the door in his face. Then when I showed up for my sessions, the counselor left me waiting in the waiting room until more than 15 minutes after my start time. I asked the receptionist what was going on. "Oh, she is probably out smoking." Nice.I didn't say anything to her that time, but she could tell I was annoyed. The next time when I waited until nearly 20 after, and she could tell I was annoyed, I told her I don't like sitting for 20 minutes while my session is supposed to be underway. Then she tries to turn it around on me and says "It can be hard to be understanding sometimes. I have things I need to do after a group session to be ready," as she's digging through a pile of folders looking for mine. Right. I asked "Is there a time I can set up that isn't after a group session so we can start promptly?""If it bothers you that much you don't have to come here," she says.Fine. "Can I just get my money back and cancel this session then?"Yep. What a waste of time.

If I could give them zero stars I would. Two months ago I began seeking help for a substance abuse problem. They offered me medication assisted treatment I took it. A month later the meds turned on me. The side effects were unbearable I had several discussions with the doctor and my councilor about it but they insisted that I was doing something wrong. This went on for three more weeks. Finally I couldn t take it and demanded to be switched off the medication. They immediately dropped me as a patient. This place doesn t care about you unless you go along with their cookie cutter agenda. Disgusted.

Accepted Insurance

TLC Health Network works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
A drug intervention in New York occurs when family members and friends lovingly confront someone with a substance use disorder. The goal of this confrontation is to motivate the person to seek treatment. Loved ones point out how the person's destructive behavior is affecting them in hopes that they will agree to get help. Most inpatient rehab facilities offer intervention services that can help families walk through this process step by step.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you choose drug rehab in New York, you'll participate in a variety of treatments that are designed to help you live a drug-free lifestyle. Common methods of treatment include group, individual, and family counseling, medication management, nutrition, exercise, and management of co-occurring mental health disorders.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.
