About The GateHouse Lititz

The GateHouse for Men is a residential addiction treatment center in Lititz, Pennsylvania. They offer extended care for men in recovery, giving them a safe and sober place to live before they transition back into society. You can pay for the services in cash or use private insurance. They also accept Medicaid and county funding.

Most men participate in this program for around three to six months. To get the most out of your stay, they recommend that you complete detox services or inpatient treatment elsewhere before joining. While you’re here, you’ll learn the basic life skills you need to sustain your recovery once you’re out on your own.

I like that they focus on treating the physical, spiritual, and psychological sides of addiction. Their treatment takes place over three different phases, and each phase includes 12 step meetings, home group discussions, group counseling sessions, and daily household chores.

One great thing about this facility is that it recently underwent a total makeover. In 2023, the building was transformed inside and out thanks to a grant from the Lancaster County Drug and Alcohol Commission. The exterior got new materials and landscaping while the interior got new paint and furniture. They also expanded one bedroom to make space for two more residents. In addition to making the space more comfortable and homelike, these renovations also reinforced the concept of starting over and made a difference to the guests.

Some men who have gone through this program in the past say they benefitted from the on site and community wide meetings they attended. They also report that the people who work there are very kind and ready to help.

Outpatient services also include assessments and referrals to community-based resources, relapse prevention planning, and the practicing of recovery skills without disrupting daily routines and is offered for men and women at both their Mountville, PA and Lititz, PA location.

inpatient iconInpatient Rehab

Inpatient rehab provides clients with an opportunity to focus solely on their sobriety away from the stressors of the home and workplace. Clients receive housing, food, and intensive clinical supervision. They also typically engage in multiple addiction counseling sessions each week, including daily individual, group, and/or family sessions. Most programs also prioritize recovery-focused life skills training, including courses in relapse prevention. Many facilities offer evidence-based holistic therapies, such as yoga and meditation.

aftercare iconAftercare

Clients receiving services from a rehab aftercare program are usually stable and in the maintenance phase of recovery, having completed detox and/or intensive inpatient treatment. Rehab aftercare services can vary widely based on clients' individual and evolving needs, but often include peer coaching, relapse prevention support, 12 step program induction, and medical, mental health, and social service referrals. Individual care plans are typically developed by the client in partnership with their case manager and care team.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Research has shown that the longer a newly recovering person remains engaged in treatment and in a supportive, structured, recovery-oriented environment, the better their chances at long-term abstinence. As a result, The Gate House has helped to develop, and manages, gender-separate recovery residences in Lancaster County. Residents may stay for up to one year, while working toward independent living. Residents participate in weekly house meetings and perform household chores as part of a community living environment, and learn to navigate the challenges of early recovery with the help of live-in peer support.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

Intervention services bring extensive experience to the planning and conducting of drug interventions in Pennsylvania. These experts can facilitate interventions in a sensitive manner that encourages positive outcomes. Interventions can be effective with all types of drugs and alcohol addiction.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

Because the severity of withdrawal symptoms can fluctuate, constant monitoring under 24-hour clinical care in Pennsylvania is recommended for early recovery. As you undergo detox, medical staff will supervise your health and ensure severe symptoms do not develop or threaten your life. Professional counselors will also be available to treat mental and emotional health needs.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

A medical detox is the safest way to wean your body off drugs and/or alcohol in an inpatient setting. When detoxing from addictive substances, the physical and psychological side effects of withdrawal can cause mood swings, anxiety, nausea, or flu-like symptoms. In medically assisted detox, a team of medical professionals are on hand 24/7 to help alleviate potential withdrawal symptoms, administer medications to alleviate withdrawal symptoms, and ultimately keep you safe and comfortable throughout this process.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

While I have found most support staff to be helpful in directing my recovery and progressing in my recovery, Gatehouse Lititz does have plenty of problems concerning food availability.I don't believe clients should have to purchase their own food just to eat. They are paid by insurance to provide 3 meals a day, not dry cereal for breakfast because there is no milk. There have also been times when there was no bread to even make a PB&J for lunch.I have been in touch with DDAP regarding these issues.

In my time at gatehouse I was able to meet some incredible sober support and enjoy life again, what I enjoyed in particular was being able to go to the gym with my peers which was very helpful for my recovery. There are several techs that seem to genuinely care about you and offer there advice and experience, I've grown to care about my peers and got alot out of helping others, I hope to stay connected with them in my recovery journey

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with my treatment at Gatehouse. The quality of care that I received was unsatisfactory and there are many areas that need to be re-evaluated and changed. First of all, I found the staff to be inadequately trained and unprepared to treat complex patients. Many of the counselors lacked experience and were lacking the insight and compassion needed in addiction treatment. This was obvious in the way they conducted their one on one sessions and failed to tailor the treatment to the individual. Second, the actual facility was poor. The atmosphere was not one that made you feel comfortable in recovering in. The recreation activities were limited and the resources available for the patients to use were scarce. Third, the structure of the program was very unorganized and inconsistent. The group sessions were often times moved to different times without any prior notifications. This made it difficult to get into a routine and actually feel like you were making progress. Also, the curriculum that was used was very outdated and did not reflect the evidence based methods of addiction treatment. Fourth, the after care support was virtually non-existent. When you are discharged there is little to no guidance or resources given to you to aid you in transitioning back into the normal workforce and everyday life. This is a critical part of addiction treatment and should not be overlooked or given insufficient attention. In conclusion, my overall satisfaction with my addiction treatment at Gatehouse was very poor. There are many aspects of the program that need to be revised to improve the quality of care, facility, and support given to the patients. I hope through this review the administration will take the appropriate actions to correct these problems and better the treatment program that they offer.

Despite some minor disorganization issues such as menu/food ordering, staff communication, and rule changes, I accomplished what I set out to do with little agitation(mostly from my peers and their opinions of the program). I never went without food at any meal time unless I chose to skip(breakfast/lunch), always got along with and followed directions of staff members, completed my program without a hitch, and benefited greatly from all in-house and outside meetings. I have no regrets and am in a better position mentally, physically, and financially than when I first arrived.Thank you GateHouse staff.

Staff was great no problem at all with them. The Real problem was clients the people you stay with in the house will try to crash you out if you let them but you just got to stay true to yourself and your recovery and just ignore your peers bc non of them are there to really help you and they don't know a real brotherhood they are all about there selfs but I just keep pushing and praying each and everyday to just complete the program and move in with my life.
