About Southwest Counseling Service

Southwest Counseling Service in Rock Springs, Wyoming might sound like a place where you just stop in for counseling, and sure, it has counseling, but it’s so much more than this too. This program has rehab for alcohol and drug addiction at multiple levels of care.

The journey at Southwest Counseling Service starts with a full drug and alcohol assessment so the team can get a clear picture of your addiction so they can build a custom treatment plan for you. From there, you’ll go into the program that’s best for you. It could be one of the different residential programs, meaning you’ll live at the rehab while you get treatment. Or it could be an intensive outpatient program or the special program for teens.

There’s really a treatment option for everyone here. Southwest Counseling Service coordinates with the courts as well with DUI classes and even addiction treatment for people in jail or drug court. You know it’s quality because this rehab is CARF accredited and it’s certified by the State of Wyoming.

I came to south west counseling for impatient treatment. I was told they have a women's house where I can also have my children there, only to be told that my children were to old to be able to be there with me. I get that there has to be strict rules, it's a rehab center, I get that. But I think what bothered my the most was that 90 percent of the people in there are on medication that they we're not on prior to being there, or they are put on suboxone for long periods of time,, if you haven't researched the side effects of long term suboxone use here's some info.-While taking Suboxone can be highly beneficial in your recovery, using it long- term can be dangerous. This is a drug that is only meant to be used for the short period of time when your body is detoxing from opioids and is adjusting to that physiological change. When Suboxone is used more than that, it can produce the reemergence of withdrawal symptoms, such as: Anxiety Depression Insomnia Lack of motivation Joint and muscle pain Sweats . Fatigue Nausea Long-term Suboxone use can also cause the development of psychosis, which is characterized by mental health symptoms that signal a loss of touch with reality.

Accepted Insurance

Southwest Counseling Service works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Per session payment lets you pay for each treatment at the time of service. You may also pay for a certain number of sessions up front and then pay for more if needed. This format allows you to tailor the financial investment to your specific needs and avoid having a large lump sum payment due at the end of the treatment program.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are one of the most effective methods of achieving long-term recovery from addiction. Southwest Counseling Service provides three residential treatment programs for adult men and women suffering from substance abuse/dependency depending on each individual’s needs. The Therapeutic Community is a long-term, six- to 12-month residential treatment program for individuals with severe substance abuse disorders and criminal behavior. It is highly structured, confrontational, and an effective alternative to jail or prison. Southwest Counseling Service’s Women’s Addiction Program was the first program in the state of Wyoming that allowed pregnant women and mothers with substance abuse addiction to receive intensive residential treatment while maintaining their responsibilities to their children.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
This program is an ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) Level II.1 group is gender specific and meets a minimum of 9 hours per week. It provides individuals the knowledge, structure, and support needed to establish and maintain a long-term program of recovery. Individuals move at their own pace through the intensive program in four phases, which generally take 4-6 months. The program is open enrollment with two parts: Level II.1 IOP groups meet 3 times per week, followed by Level I Continuing Care meeting once per week.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs serve clients who are medically stable and well advanced in their recovery journey, having already completed detox and/or intensive inpatient treatment. Drug rehab aftercare is designed to support clients in maintaining their sobriety as they return to their home, workplace, and community. Case managers and care teams play a pivotal role in designing a long-term care plan that meets clients' unique recovery needs and goals. Relapse prevention and peer coaching are common.
12-step icon12-Step
Clients engaged in 12 step programs receive ongoing and intensive peer support while cultivating spiritual, emotional, and psychological practices to facilitate recovery. Regular attendance at 12 step meetings, which are anonymous, free, and accessible both online and in most communities, is expected. Early in their recovery, participants select a sponsor to mentor them in their recovery. Religious affiliation is not required, but faith-based and other specialized formats are available.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
The Supported Independent Living Program offers a semi-independent living facility for individuals 18 years old and older in need of minimal assistance with daily activities. This program allows individuals to establish confidence in living independently, while receiving the support that is needed to live in the community.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
In a partial hospitalization program (PHP), you'll receive intensive addiction treatment while being able to return home each day. PHP is a good fit for those with moderate to severe addictions and often serves as a step-down level of care. PHP treatment typically requires a minimum of 20 minimum hours a week and includes relapse prevention, medication management, and behavioral therapy services. Most insurance providers fully or partially cover PHP treatment.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

The programs offered at drug rehab in Wyoming address the underlying issues of addiction, with the goal being to get to the root of the problem. By learning to manage issues without substance use, you are empowered to live a healthy, drug-free life.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
postpartum-program thumbnail image
Postpartum Program
The postpartum period is a sensitive time, especially for women in addiction recovery. Rehabs with specialized programs for new mothers will offer compassionate, personalized care to meet each client's needs as they transition from pregnancy to this season of life. Care teams may include obstetricians, pediatricians, and social workers working collaboratively to give women, children, and families a healthy future.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

The Bridges Program provides group therapy that is designed to help individuals optimize their personal and social abilities in order to function successfully in the community. Groups focus on different behavior, emotional, cognitive and recovery skills. Individuals choose to attend the groups that best fit their needs.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

From a standpoint of a staff member I would give this facility 0 stars if I could, it is run poorly, residential staff are not treated well and the residential facilities for the clients are not good. They literally only care about money and they get it from filling beds not making it a helpful place. They will tell you that they value your feedback and allow for you to explain yourself, but they don't. Their probationary period is an entire year and it's basically set up to make you fail. If you're looking for a job in this field I highly recommend looking literally anywhere else, you'll come out with more problems than you went in with.

The front desk forgot I came in first for the walk in appointment and scheduled someone else in the slot. Then I could hear them gossiping about me through the window, as I was leaving they scoffed at my comments about having to get there from Green River. Misunderstanding ensued, I did get an apology for the incident. Recommend if you live in Green River schedule a zoom appointment, save you a trip

Southwest counseling saved my life. This is a pretty amazing place but it's also really big. It's ran like a corporation and if you aren't careful you will get lost in the shuffle. But if you're able to find where you fit in you can get some amazing help with these people. Just be patient because they are trying to help a lot a lot of people and sadly when you try to help as many people as they do you could fall through the cracks.

Caseworkers that take a week to call you back. Residential house staff that could give penny about their jobs. Supervisors that had no answers. This is what SWC is all about. No communication. No assistance and to top it all off...their mothers may get to see and have their kids, but the dads are shoved to the side and told no...no...no. This place is the same as it was 20 years ago....a last ditch effort at getting your money for minimal results.
