About San Antonio Recovery Center Alumni and Outpatient Services

San Antonio Recovery Center (SARC) of San Antonio, Texas, is a Joint Commission accredited substance abuse rehab center. They provide general outpatient programs (OP), co-occurring disorder treatment, and aftercare services to adults. They have three locations in San Antonio, some of which provide residential treatment as well.

OP is described as a low intensity level of care because, unlike residential or inpatient treatment, clients aren’t made to live at the facility during treatment. While this does require clients to be committed to making appointments, the trade off is that they have more freedom than those restrictive higher levels of care. For example, clients in OP can continue to attend work and carry on with other responsibilities.

OP at SARC is comprised of daily appointments, which may feature individual, group, and family therapy. Clients who demonstrate stability can enter into OP directly, but it can also serve as continuing care for those exiting a residential program.

SARC has an extensive aftercare program to help program graduates stay connected with others in recovery. Of note is their sober living housing program, which gives graduates a sober living space where they can practice their new recovery skills before returning home.

I went to alumni last week to get my 1 year sobriety coin and it was my first visit in about 6 months, and what a total disappointment this has become !Only 2 people spoke the entire time, not even asking if anyone else would like to share, which I had planned on doing, and I'm not joking when I say that both of their speeches was reminiscing about how much fun they had when they were on drugs or alcohol. The meeting ran over by almost 30 minutes because both of them took so long, and to make it even worse, they didn't even have any 1 year sobriety coins !!Bring Priscilla back !It was a wonderful recovery place when I attended, now it's a JOKE !Waste of my time, never going back!I feel sorry for the inpatient people that were there because that alumni meeting did absolutely nothing to help them !

It all started at SARC! 2 yrs ago i reached out to the San Antonio Recovery Center to help my relative with an addiction problem. The website talked about detox & rehab programs I didn t know the difference but I quickly learned we needed both! I also learned it takes a village to help a love one manage their addition: medical team, the member, and their support system (family & friends). My brother completed both detox and a 90 day rehab. I would like to say he was cured but it takes commitment and perseverance. Today my relative is living his best life over 1 year drug free, and it all started at SARC!If you or someone you know is battling with addiction problems, please pick up the phone and commit to the SARC.

Accepted Insurance

San Antonio Recovery Center Alumni and Outpatient Services works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
After completing some form of inpatient care, many clients transition or step down to an outpatient rehab, while some choose to transition from detox directly into outpatient care. High-intensity outpatient programming, including partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) is widely available for clients in early recovery, those leaving detox, and those at an elevated relapse risk. Clients in outpatient care generally engage in robust addiction counseling and recovery education, and some also receive medication assisted treatment (MAT).
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs are based on a model of continuing care and the premise that recovery is a life-long process requiring ongoing client support. Many rehab aftercare services include outpatient care, but clients often continue to receive support after being discharged from formal treatment. Case managers and care teams typically collaborate with clients to design their long-term care plan, which may include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction, among other services.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
Commonly known as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers intensive addiction treatment while allowing you to return home each day. It can serve as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or as a step-down option. Depending on your needs, PHP treatment typically averages 90 days with a weekly requirement of 6-8 hours a day. PHP treatment offers a variety of therapeutic interventions such as individual counseling, group therapy, and psychoeducation. Oftentimes PHP treatment can be fully covered by insurance.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. The length of stay at the detoxification program is determined according to the specific needs of the patient.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.

Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Treatment that takes a dialectical behavior therapy approach focuses on four strategies. Distress tolerance will help you accept and tolerate intense emotions. Emotional regulation will teach you to manage those emotions. Mindfulness will keep you in the present moment instead of regret or worry. Interpersonal effectiveness will teach you to manage your relationships.

equine-therapy iconEquine Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Individual therapy offers you a confidential space to address the complexities of your drug or alcohol addiction. Your therapist guides these personalized sessions to help develop self awareness and manage stress. This promotes sustained sobriety and overall well being.

Couples therapy helps couples learn to control emotions, trust each other, and communicate more effectively. It can be useful for short term intervention for a specific issue or for working on the relationship long term.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

By far the best recovery experience anyone could ask for. From the day I arrived, I was met professionals who went above and beyond to make sure that I was fully capable of achieving my treatment goals. A life changing impact on clients isn t enough said of the counselors, medical staff, and peer support that SARC provides. There is no doubt about it, SARC saves lives
