12/23-took my husband to the emergency room @ Somerset Medical.I walked in and asked for a wheelchair due to the fact that my husband was in pain and couldn t walk.Gentleman immediately said let me see if I can get one for you and was back in a minute. I guess now you have to get your patient using the wheelchair that was provided. As soon as I brought my husband back the gentleman walked over and said that he will take my husband to registration, get him started and I can go and park the car.Came back in and he said your family member is over there good luck and could hear the empathy in his voice. My husband did not have socks on his feet and this gentleman that was waiting for his family member asked a nurse if she could bring a pair of socks or a blanket for my husband. After 10 minutes this gentleman took his jacket off to cover my husband s feet, getting emotional writing this, and said I don t think she is coming back. There is still good humanity out there!!He was right, nurse never came back.I asked the receptionist for a pair of socks and told her about the gentleman using his jacket. In a couple of minutes a nurse handed me a pair of socks.Wait time is about 45-60 minutes to be called in by the nurse.Nurse picks up my husband and was told to get a pass/ID. Pass ID should have been issued while waiting. Walked up to the desk for the ID, this is another security guy, he was rude, abruptly cut me off and said patient s last name?Receptionist lobby is extremely cold, something MUST be done with the revolving door, people that are sick are suffering in silence and will get an exorbitant bill.Nurse, his name started with an M and Charlie, PA these were the first pleasant medical staff we encountered. These gentlemen literally enjoy their jobs and took away the anxiety that we felt. They don t get paid enough to have a pleasant, positive, professional attitude and try to give patient care.I don t know if this lady was from billing and coding, she was very empathetic and professional.RWJ Somerset Medical do better!!!!

Have liaised with several departments here for various blood/charity drives over the years and everyone I've met from the front desk team to the cafeteria workers and everyone in between treated me with professionalism, kindness and compassion. I donate platelets/plasma regularly and won't go anywhere else. Best blood team around!

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Clients who are exiting inpatient rehab, those who are experiencing crisis, and those who prefer to live at home while in treatment typically enroll in intensive inpatient programs (IOP). These programs feature frequent and robust care, generally requiring clients to participate in at least nine hours of care weekly, though many intensive outpatient rehabs offer up to 20 treatment hours per week. IOP services typically combine individual, group, and family counseling with recovery education and holistic therapies.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term, intensive outpatient option designed for those with moderate to severe addictions who don't require 24-hour care. PHP treatment is often fully covered by insurance and provides structured programming (i.e. individual and group therapy). A typical partial hospitalization program can meet 3-5 days a week for a minimum of 20 hours, offering intensive treatment during the day while allowing you to return home after. PHP treatment duration can vary based on your progress but averages 90 days.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
A medical detox is the safest way to wean your body off addictive substances. When you become physically dependent on alcohol or drugs, quitting abruptly can cause a host of challenging and uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms. In medically assisted detox, a team of medical professionals will be on hand to monitor any symptoms, to provide medication if possible, and to help keep you as safe and as comfortable as possible throughout this process.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy provides a structure to approach healing from past traumatic events that you may have witnessed or experienced. Your therapist will work with you to identify and process these memories. This helps promote a sense of safety and stability and helps you heal emotionally.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Hospital better than most but Billing/claims Department awful. My son got admitted to the ER on Jul 3d. Under my insurance this was an ER visit with a copay of $200. We had this insurance for over 7 years. Same information always. I even was at the ER on 7/11 and no issues. However for some reason, someone extremely incompletent sent the claim to a different address therefore saying that my son wasn't covered when he was and has been since he was born. I called them about 8 times with the insurance rep on a 3 way call and provided the right information but in their system they keep submitting it to the wrong place therefore getting denied. The insurance has asked them to fax or mail the claim to the right place and the claims department refuses. The icing on the cake is that they sent the bills to collections. Awful experience. Now 6 months later still waiting for this to be resolved.
