About Phoenix Associates, Inc.

Phoenix Associates is a counselor center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. They have outpatient counseling for drug and alcohol addiction and many other mental health and behavioral health issues. Many people with addiction have mental health needs on top of their substance abuse issues, so this treatment center can help you address all of these factors together.

A key benefit I noticed about this therapy center is that they have several different service formats depending on what helps you best. For example, they have individual counseling where you work one on one with your counselor. But they also have group counseling services where you have a counselor along with the give and take of a supportive peer group. There are specific support groups for different issues, too, like a drug and alcohol addiction group and a specific group for teens with substance abuse challenges.

Along with outpatient treatment for your addiction this counseling center has outpatient counseling for your family as well. Addiction affects the whole family and family counseling can help all of you heal and work together for your recovery.

Medical briefcase icon Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

aftercare iconAftercare

Clients receiving support in a rehab aftercare program have completed inpatient care and may also be preparing to exit formal outpatient care. Outpatient services are typically categorized as rehab aftercare, but these services often continue beyond the cessation of formal treatment. Rehab aftercare services are designed to promote life-long recovery through comprehensive, wraparound care, which may include medical, mental health, and social services. These programs are usually created in collaboration with the client's case manager and care team.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

For long-term recovery from drug addiction, drug rehab in Indiana is often key. This treatment gives individuals who are struggling with a substance use disorder the tools to manage their disorder and achieve long-term sobriety.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I originally called and made an initial appointment for therapy, specifying that my partner saw a counselor at Phoenix but I couldn t remember her name. I gave them my partner s name and when they put me on the schedule they confirmed it was a different counselor. I had a great initial appointment and when I got home to share with my partner, we realized I had seen his counselor. When I inevitably got the call that I would need to be rescheduled for a different counselor, no explanation or apology was given. Then, after seeing a great counselor for months, I received a voicemail saying that they weren t sure if I had known, but she no longer worked there and I would have to be rescheduled. In general, the front desk staff seemed standoffish and I had to get their attention and explain I needed to make another appointment in order to do so.

If I could give them a zero star. I would. Phoenix associates allows for supervised visit. To go into UNSUPERVISED situations. My son who is 7 used to attend supervised visits at Phoenix until their supervisor allowed the non custodial parent to take him out of the office UNSUPERVISED! And go to the bathroom which is down the hall and around a corner. If you cherish your child and their safety I HIGHLY recommend choosing a different facility. And other facilities would be a better choice. Then after continuous denying the fact. Which was witnessed only because my mother had to go to the bathroom and walked in the facility. Phoenix tried to put blame on the non custodial parent. Instead of correcting the staff! Sad. Just sad. We have reported Phoenix to multiple agencies. And are in contact with our lawyers regarding the situation.

Caught the Supervisor of the visits letting the bio-parent take the child to the bathroom alone. Informed the office, Trey and Sean, they initially denied it happened, then blamed the bio parent for breaking the rule. I witnessed the whole situation and the Supervisor allowed them to walk out of the room alone.

I have 2 kids who were referred here. My youngest matched with a great counselor for him who was consistent. My oldest originally met with this counselor, but due to schedule, he was moved to a different counselor. This other counselor was constantly canceling the day of our appointments. Rescheduling became such a hassle, and we had to schedule months out to make up for these cancelations. And on the few occasions that this lady would show up for my son, she never reserved the ONLY play room for Play Therapy. She rarely communicated anything with me about my son's progress (probably because she rarely saw him) while the other therapist was consistent and followed up with me. It really wasn't fair to my oldest son and really made his anxiety worse. I have mixed feelings because right now, as a mom, I am upset for one son, but happy for the other. Currently a 3 star, unless something changes soon!! I've put in a request for a change of therapist, and the receptionists basically tell me she's all they got for our schedule unless I want to wait months to get him on schedule with my other son's therapist. It's such a hassle and if you need anything more immediate due to DCS or school, good luck!

Bias and discrimination. As a man you will never earn or be given respect. They do not have your children's safety or mental well being a concerned at all. They allow unsafe visitation. If inappropriate and harmful behavior is happening they will not stop the visit although it says that in the DCS regulations. They allow visitation to happen even if it is clear that the parent is using drugs. Amy Cook is a very unpleasant person who discriminates again men. She gets into every decision made and pushes her opinion. A completely biased opinion. If you are sent there for visitation do everything you can to change providers. Stay clear. I would not want any man to have to go through what I did there.

I have been working with Grant for a while, and he is the best I have had in the many years of getting mental health help, Sean and Trey have been helpful with getting my appointments scheduled, I have never had to "wait months" to get an appointment set with Grant.

Tons of cancellations by counselors. Attempted to take my children 2 different lengths of time. 2020 and 2021. Waiting to get in is crazy expect about a month or 2 before you can be seen. I scheduled MONTHS out so my kids would have a spot. Every single appointment one kids was cancelled. So we gave it a break for about 6 months and attempted it again. This time my kids had Jarvis and Danica. They were PERFECT fits for my kids so we were very optimistic and excited. Guess what!? Cancellations every single time. Its really sad honestly. Personally my kids major reason for needing therapy was due to some very inconsistent times they were experiencing. It DOES NOT help when their own couselors arent consistent either. Very disappointing.

I made an appointment with a counselor for my daughter. We had to wait to months for the appointment, then the day before they canceled it and couldn't get her in for another 2 months! I now had to look else where for a counselor.
