From the minute I called to the minute I left, this place has no compassion or respect for privacy. My doctor suggest this program for me. When calling, the receptionist had me on speaker the entire time asking personal info such as my SSN. Her entire line of questioning revolved around insurance as she typed away which was irritating me. When I asked her to take me off speaker, she seemed annoyed and didn't do it. I made the appointment and showed up. Right away, I was handed a clip board and asked for more insurance information. After about 1/2 hour, my counselor escorted me to the bathroom for a urine test. To this point, I wasn't asked about my substance abuse at all. Finally we sat down and he rattled off question after question from a checklist - never addressing me directly; just hidden behind the computer monitor while I stared at the back of it. He intended to ask questions for approximately 2 hours before I respectfully said this isn't going to be for me. He then told his program director that I was leaving who didn't even have the courtesy to come out of her office to talk to me. I don't know about you, but I'd like someone to ask what's going on and how are you doing before jumping into a checklist made up by someone who doesn't seem to get it. Just demographics and background to make up statistics and put you in a classification. If you want compassionate care, don't give up, but don't go here. They just don't get it.

Accepted Insurance

Phelps Memorial Hospital works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you choose drug rehab in New York, you'll participate in a variety of treatments that are designed to help you live a drug-free lifestyle. Common methods of treatment include group, individual, and family counseling, medication management, nutrition, exercise, and management of co-occurring mental health disorders.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation. Family members are offered educational programs, support groups, and their own 12-step meeting referrals.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Don't go here if you want a fair review for dwi case! The counselor I saw said simply because I got charged with a dwi I have a drinking problem. He didn't even listen to what I was saying. I made a bad decision one time I had never got in touble before or been arrested and I have a drinking problem?! I went to bear mountain counseling and got a positive review for my case.Result:NO DRINKING PROBLEM. when I called the tasc office in white plains they told me that they have issues with the reports given to them by Phelps! I then asked "why do you have them on your lists of counselorsvif they are more concerned with filling their program rather than helping people!" DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! Also that one session was $500!!!!

This is a great outpatient program. I saw some of the negative comments and I totally disagree. The counselors are awesome. They are not judgemental. They call clients on their BS!! Of course there are clients who are mandated. That's every rehab. But there are also people who are there because they need help and want to be there. I loved the counselors because they were very in tune to the disease of addiction. Someone mentioned the "older white male" counselor. He was one of my favorites. They are very compassionate. They also run their groups efficiently. I've been to some outpatient programs where the counselors can't control the groups and by the time the group is over...I forgot what the actual group topic was. I would definitely recommend this treatment program to anyone who really wants help with their addiction.

Avoid if you can. Counselors create more grief and hardship than is necessary for people interested in recovery. It seems that the patients here don't necessarily have alcoholism/addiction issues but were actually court mandated for DWI's, or as part of the diversion program for drug dealers. This program is designed to be a lesser punishment for criminals who are avoiding prison. The first office on the left is for the probation officer.Group discussions are not moderated and guided so much as they are controlled by group counselors. Utilizes out dated theories and approaches and does not look into underlying issues. This is not a dual-diagnosis program as advertised: people are sent to the in-house psychiatrist, a mandatory service, to be diagnosed and prescribed medications in order to 'fix their emotions', rather than use group discussions or individual counseling to help people process them. Very bureaucratic. If AA is rock bottom then Phelps ats is Satan's broom closet.Did not meet my expectations. Seek real help elsewhere by qualified professionals.

This place is a horrible please to go if your seeking honest help. They care more about money and the people who work their especially the older white male has a very judgmental, entitled and disrespectful vibe. He shouldn t be working in this field because Instead of making objective and fact based rational decisions he is extremely bias and projects his own judgement onto people and that s how he does his job. Which is not right at all because everyone is different and needs a different level of care and can t all be lumped into a box. I never even got to meet with the doctor once the entire time but I was told that the doctor strongly recommended I needed inpatient (even though I just got home from an inpatient hospital setting) .. I find it amazing how a doctor who you never even get a chance to meet can come to the rational conclusion that I need inpatient without even hearing me out or looking me in my eyes or meeting me at all. You can t just make decisions on people s lives like that when you don t even have an honest and objective assessment of their situation. This place sucks at doing their job at helping people get better and clean and only cares about money and only cares about people with legals. I chose to go to this clinic because I was seeking help and medication to assist me further in my recovery. Not because I had any legal problems whatsoever .. to them they found this odd which to me makes no sense because the entire point of having clinics like this is for the exact same reason I was trying to utilize them for... the only thing they did for me was waste my time, leave me with added stress (which could have lead me to relapse) and judge me by my looks, appearance and thought I was dumb enough to listen to their ignorant disrespectful and judgmental conclusion of my situation. DO NOT GO TO THIS OUTPATIENT .. if I were to recommend a place I would say IHS (innovative health systems in white plains) is way better and you actually get to MEET WITH THE DOCTOR FACE TO FACE so they can hear you out instead of them have other people dsiplay your case to the doctor which is simply wrong. So dont be fooled by the nice pretty modern look of the place because most of the people inside are judgmental, disrespectful and ignorant power/money hungry individuals. DISGUSTING
