Horrible place. I quit taking my kids because my daughters therapist was horrible. If she was even ever there. My sons therapist was at least there I felt like my kids were dollar signs and nothing more. I felt they didn't care at all about the mental health of my children. Only cared that they were getting paid.Point proven.I abruptly removed my children becauseofhow i felt. I didn't call. I didn't explain myself. My kids just didn't show up for their appointments. NOBODY TO THIS DAY HAS CHECKED ON THEM! No call from either therapist nor any office staff. They keep sending that bill though How do they know something isn't wrong? They haven't even attempted to call and it's been a year now!!I would avoid this place if you want people who care

Having courteous and professional office staff is critical for a psychologist's office for several reasons:Ist Impressions Matter:Initial Contact**: The office staff often represents the first point of contact for patients. Can't comment on the doctors because I never made it in. I called and made an appointment. It was scheduled for 2 weeks out and was told to call back once I fill out the info that they will email to me. I repeated my email twice, even using military alphabet codes to make sure she had it. I never got the email so I called back. Once I filled it the paperwork I realized they had my appt date wrong. They had that it was scheduled over a month out. I emailed to ask about this and she said I knew it was that date and I even said it. I told her I never said what she has down I repeated the date I was told. I ended up cancelling because I'm not going to wait to see someone my doctor didn't refer me to (she was booked so I scheduled with another doctor).

Accepted Insurance

Oakland Psychological Clinic works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Rational Behavior Therapy (RBT) is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy meant to be short-term and comprehensive. It was intended to help clients become more self-sufficent and move forward without the need for expensive, ongoing therapy. It includes an emotional self-help method called “rational self-counseling,” the purpose of which is to give clients all the skills needed to handle future emotional issues by themselves, or with significantly less professional help.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Office staff do not take into account that they are dealing with mentally ill or neurodivergent people. My therapist is wonderful, and I will continue to go to him, but I want nothing to do with the office staff. The Doctor is dismissive, lacks any bedside manner, and forces prescription of medication to be based on monthly visits. Because of this, if you haven't seen him in a while, you will be told by the office staff something along the lines "Too bad, you'll be prescribed your medicine on the next appointment." Don't have enough meds for the next appointment and have a med with nasty withdrawal symptoms? "Too bad. Maybe try your general practitioner."Rather than working with their patient, office staff will say "Too bad, you should have known better."Update: the office charged me the full $300 I owe despite being on a payment plan without asking or calling me beforehand. Thanks for screwing me over! Guess I didn't need groceries anyway.I can't recommend this clinic.

Office staff are friendly but have no idea what their therapists schedules are and will bill you for services they do not disclose to you prior to performing the service. Billing is handled by a 3rd party creating a huge disconnect between the office, therapist, and patient. Participating therapist Nancy Gorelick was billing several sessions per day/week, not approved by the insurance provider and this office would not address this with her resulting in me significantly overpaying for services I did not receive. When I reviewed the issue with the office, they threatened calling a Collections Agency on me instead of dealing with their therapist who has now as I understand it, resigned from their office and started her own business called Brighter Visions Therapy in Grand Blanc, MI. In addition, Nancy Gorelick is easily manipulated by outside influences and will turn on you in an instant, you cannot trust her to have you or your families best interests in mind. She will smile and tell you to your face its all good however turn around and ignore you and provide incredibly unprofessional recommendations. I sought out help from Oakland Psychological Clinic and Nancy Gorelick and instead recieved incredibly horrible treatment resulting in a whole new stress and major problem for me and my family - stay clear of both offices!

I have never been so mistreated in my life. I have been in psychological treatment for over 10 years now and this office was the most unfriendly and downright unprofessional place I have ever even heard of. How this place has any review above a single star I will truly never understand.Granted, my two experiences with a therapist there were fine, it's the doctor I'm simply in awe of.I went in to get help for possible ADHD. Within 5 minutes of meeting with this doctor, who was already late to my appointment by over 30 minutes, I was holding back tears. This ""doctor"" raised his voice several times at me, rolled his eyes when I tried to list off what he was asking for, and yelled at me multiple times in the less than 15 minutes I saw him. Mind you, this was scheduled for an hour appointment. I left there with no help, crying my eyes out, and it took me hours to calm down. I have never been so mistreated by anyone, let alone a supposed doctor who is supposed to be professional and actually assist people. This person also completely dismissed my questions about possible ASD with "you make good eye contact and talk well" after less than 5 minutes, in which I had already been yelled at more than once and was openly crying in his office. It took me a long time to find the right words for this review, and I desperately hope no one will ever go to this office and it can be shut down. Please, if you care for yourself, your child, a friend, a loved one, do NOT let them enter this place. It is not what anyone deserves, let alone vulnerable people trying to seek professional help. You will not find it here.

Therapists are amazing and I wish I could give them 5 stars, but the office staff is the absolute worst. They constantly belittle me for insurance issues out of my control. If they could take 5 seconds to think about how other humans might be feeling, everything would be ok. But they are the rudest most self centered individuals I have ever dealt with.

A word of warning to anyone looking into this psychologist: please search for an alternative. This business has obviously paid fake 5-star reviews on their business page to inflate their overall star rating. This is very easy to see as some are almost copy and paste and use stock images for their profile pictures. They may be an okay establishment but any place that employs these tactics over honesty do not deserve your trust.Edit: I happened to be looking over my reviews and noticed that they seemed to have since removed the fake reviews I referenced above. I will not be removing this entirely.
