I highly recommend Stonewater for any teen boy that is struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma and addiction. Our teen went through the ninety day program and graduated a different person. The time and effort that the staff puts into these boys on an individual basis is great. He went there not knowing anyone and came home with lifelong friends. Not only with the other boys, but with the staff. They care about these boys and show it through their hard work and dedication. The staff is not there just for the boys but for the families. They helped us by teaching us self care and how to support our boys while there and after they leave. I m so glad we are now a part of the Stonewater family.

I am a Black, disabled female veteran and federal employee who has struggled with severe clinical depression, PTSD, and anxiety since 2002. Recently, I sought help at Parkwood due to experiencing suicidal ideation, which led to my admission on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.First Impressions Matter: Initial Admission Experience:My initial encounter with your receptionist left me feeling unsettled and undervalued, as she appeared impersonal, unapproachable, and somewhat dismissive. This experience was discouraging at a vulnerable moment. However, my admitting nurse was exceptional, showing genuine empathy and support, which reassured me as I began my time at Parkwood.Religious Sensitivity and Staff Attitudes:During intake at the Ivy Trails cottage, I wore a religious head covering, which is essential to my beliefs. Staff were initially respectful, but early the following morning, I was abruptly awakened by staff (Diane) questioning my head covering s safety, which could have been discussed at a more appropriate time. Additionally, Diane later asked, What is your religion? in a manner I found invasive and inappropriate. Diane's comments about my good hair upon removing the head covering further indicated a misunderstanding of my motivations, assuming they were based on vanity rather than religious observance. These interactions made me feel uncomfortable and misunderstood, raising concerns about cultural and religious sensitivity.Targeted Actions and Inconsistencies in Policy:Over the next few days, I noticed Diane's unfair treatment towards me. For instance, after wearing my issued robe for warmth, Diane informed me I could no longer wear it without providing me a consistent or valid explanation. During visiting hours, Diane announced new restrictions on robes, but her close, aggressive gestures and facial expressions directed at me, left me feeling targeted and intimidated. This pattern continued with Diane restricting access to more than one snack bag, despite this not being a previous rule. These actions, although minor, became part of a pattern that felt unnecessarily punitive and antagonistic towards me.Conclusion: Seeking Respect, Understanding, and Adherence to Parkwood ValuesMy experience highlighted areas where I felt Parkwood s values were not upheld. Specifically, the core values of treating everyone as a guest, demonstrating professionalism, and practicing teamwork did not align with my interactions with certain staff, specifically Diane. I hope that sharing this feedback will prompt a review and encourage training or measures to ensure that all patients feel respected, culturally understood, and supported.I would like to conclude by extending my sincere gratitude to several members of the Ivy Trails staff. I deeply appreciate their professionalism, encouragement, consistency, healing energy, patience, and expertise. Each of these remarkable women exemplifies Parkwood s core values: treating everyone as a guest, demonstrating professionalism and excellence, and practicing teamwork. Their unwavering support has made a meaningful difference in my journey, and I am thankful for their compassion and dedication.Special thanks to: Ms. Marquitta Ms. Natalie (Momma) Ms. Rachel Ms. Pam Ms. Tonya Ms. Lolli Ms. MickieThank you again for considering my feedback, and I hope these reflections can contribute to ongoing improvements in the patient experience at Parkwood.Sincerely,Dr. Angela Z.
