I had a very disappointing experience at this facility. The staff lacked professionalism, and those answering calls were often unhelpful and rude. My husband, who was admitted voluntarily and told he could leave anytime, was unexpectedly restricted from doing so.When I arrived to pick him up the next day, John C. at the front desk was dismissive and rushed me as I provided my husband s information. Even with the correct details, he claimed he couldn t find him and questioned why I was there, implying I was mistaken. This was very unprofessional.Thankfully, another staff member, Julio Zapata, stepped in to assist with genuine care, which helped ease the situation. His empathy was appreciated in such a sensitive environment. After leaving, my husband was deeply distressed, shaking and crying as he shared the traumatic treatment he experienced. He now suffers from PTSD due to his time there. I will be filing a formal complaint and urge management to address these issues immediately.

This review is in regard to a certain few employees who really stand out and have been going above and beyond to care for my adolescent. Jakwan the patient care tech takes his time to ensure patients are well care for and heard. He's comforting and is truly what a mental health care professional should be. Arturo the patient advocate has been very helpful as well and has advocated to uphold quality patient care . Of course the nurse Frank RN is also a star as he ensures patients are very well cared for. Nick the dietician is absolutly amazing. Farzaana (RN)and Richard (quality) have also been an amazing part of the care team at this facility and have quickly resolved any problems that we've encountered. Thank you guys for helping our family in such a dire time. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

Accepted Insurance

Houston Behavioral Healthcare Hospital works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
After completing some form of inpatient care, many clients transition or step down to an outpatient rehab, while some choose to transition from detox directly into outpatient care. High-intensity outpatient programming, including partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) is widely available for clients in early recovery, those leaving detox, and those at an elevated relapse risk. Clients in outpatient care generally engage in robust addiction counseling and recovery education, and some also receive medication assisted treatment (MAT).
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs are based on a model of continuing care and the premise that recovery is a life-long process requiring ongoing client support. Many rehab aftercare services include outpatient care, but clients often continue to receive support after being discharged from formal treatment. Case managers and care teams typically collaborate with clients to design their long-term care plan, which may include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction, among other services.
12-step icon12-Step
12 step programs promote participants' sustained sobriety through rigorous and ongoing peer coaching and personal spiritual growth. Participants routinely attend 12 step meetings, which are available multiple times per day, 365 days per year in most communities. This ensures that those in recovery have prompt access to the structure and support they need when they need it. These programs use spiritual precepts to address the root causes of addiction and encourage compassion, self-awareness, forgiveness, accountability, and acceptance.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
A drug intervention in Texas may be necessary if your loved one is in denial about a substance use disorder. You can partner with intervention services to plan and execute an effective intervention that educates your loved one about addiction and encourages them to get the treatment they need. Many rehab centers offer intervention specialists who can facilitate the intervention and help with a seamless transition to inpatient rehab for treatment.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
hiv-aids-program thumbnail image
HIV/AIDS Program
HIV/AIDS programs support disease prevention and management in high-risk individuals in recovery. Individuals who engage in intravenous drug use and other addictive behaviors are at a higher risk of becoming infected with HIV. Rehab centers that specialize in treating this population typically have a high number of nurses, physicians, and psychiatrists on staff who can make sure both their medical and mental health needs are met.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

The goal of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in Texas is to change thought patterns, which leads to changes in behavior. Specific techniques during CBT can include self talk, SMART goals, journaling, and positive activities.

Treatment that takes a dialectical behavior therapy approach focuses on four strategies. Distress tolerance will help you accept and tolerate intense emotions. Emotional regulation will teach you to manage those emotions. Mindfulness will keep you in the present moment instead of regret or worry. Interpersonal effectiveness will teach you to manage your relationships.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

The purpose of family therapy is to create a supportive and understanding family dynamic within the family unit. Therapists help individual members to identify and change harmful behavior patterns and improve communication. This provides a stable foundation for the family and their loved one's recovery.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

When used as recommended, nicotine replacement therapy in Texas provides enough nicotine to help you avoid severe cravings and withdrawal symptoms after quitting smoking. This increases comfort so you're less likely to relapse into your smoking habit.

Horrific Experience of Mistreatment and NegligenceMy experience at Houston Behavioral Healthcare was not only deeply disappointing but outright traumatizing. I came to this facility voluntarily, seeking help, but instead, I was subjected to shocking levels of neglect, disrespect, and unprofessional conduct. Here are the major issues I encountered:1. Denial of Medication:I was denied access to my prescribed medication throughout my stay. Despite my repeated requests, the staff completely ignored my needs, showing a total disregard for patient care. This kind of negligence is inexcusable in any healthcare facility, let alone one dedicated to mental health.2. Misleading Information and Violation of Patient Rights:Before being admitted, I was clearly told confirmed by both the staff and my friends that because I was voluntarily admitted, I could leave at any time. However, when I later tried to exercise that right, the night staff told me my rights didn t matter, that the promises made by the day staff were irrelevant, and I was forced to stay against my will. I was lied to and my rights were blatantly violated.3. Disrespectful and Dismissive Staff:When I tried to get some basic personal care items like my contact solution and case so I could go to bed, I was met with nothing but rudeness. The nurses responded with, Does it look like we know where your stuff is? No! I had to argue just to take my contacts out, something no patient should have to do in a healthcare setting. Their behavior was shockingly unprofessional and disrespectful.4. Humiliation and Emotional Trauma:The staff not only failed to provide basic care but actively disrespected me, laughing at me and speaking negatively about me to each other in front of me. This kind of treatment was degrading and contributed to severe emotional trauma. I came to this facility expecting support and care, but instead, I left feeling humiliated and even more traumatized than when I arrived. Conclusion:This facility has failed miserably in providing the basic level of care that any patient deserves. Their complete lack of professionalism, compassion, and respect for patients is disgraceful. I would not recommend this facility to anyone in need of mental health support. My experience was not just negative it was harmful. I hope they are held accountable for the damage they ve caused, and I would advise anyone considering this place to think twice before trusting them with your care.

My adolescent daughter now (12) have been to this place two times now & this place has been the most helpful place that me daughter has been to. In the past two years my daughter has been through a lot. My nephew her 1st cousin was killed 10 days before her birthday and she couldn't take the pressure from the grief and began to act out in mental patterns. She has visited Sun Behavior mental hospital, King Haven counseling group for services, NPC, UT health HC Psychiatrist, West Oaks, & Kingwood Pines so that tells you we have been on a journey But God!!! We found this place and we do see a difference when she comes here for all the other places it makes it fun and kiddy but once she saw oh I'm not gone be able to manipulate the staff at this facility she we ready to go but the Dr's here are awesome. They truly listen to you and what you are dealing with, with your child and not just to medicate them and push them but out back to you but truly help them. Also this time around we have been able to meet new staff members (techs) & (nurses) that works here by the name of Dr. O, Mr. Jakwan and Ms. Ann. They have been very polite they have been very patient & they have made sure they are taking good care of my daughter. They also have made sure that her privacy and rights are been protected thanks a bunch Mr. Jakwan and Ms. Ann for helping me today and for taking care of my sweet daughter during this time of crisis for her. She (they) & other patients have the right to have their rights and personal information taken seriously even though they are experiencing a mental health crisis they still are human beings and their rights matter I Love you guys for being there for my child when I can't be. She was in a crisis on Monday & she had to return to the facility & I really Thank God for genuine people that work at these types of facilities that really have a heart for the people and their well beings.

This place is by far the worse place when it comes to nursing staff and being able to reach someone. I am not even sure how they are even able to stay open. All the nurses do is laugh and joke all day about the patients while being on their phones. Speaking of being on their phones if visitors are NOT allowed to bring in things how are the medical staff able to bring in their stuff and NOT required to leave it in a locker, break room or office?! I will be filing a FORMAL COMPLAINT with the board of health and nursing bar!

The outpatient program for adults (DELTA) at this facility is amazing. It helps keep you grounded and teach basic skills like self-care and emotional regulation. DELTA has excellent staff and especially great therapists. I would recommend the outpatient program to anyone who is considering it! I rate it 5 stars. The in-patient program is both good and bad. There were some excellent nurses and nurse techs on staff. The kitchen and custodial staff were great! And overall, I met a lot of nice patients as well and had a positive experience. That being said, you are still locked up, and unfortunately there is not a lot of "fresh air" time like at other hospitals, which I missed. I would rate it 4 stars.Overall, many of my interactions with the staff here were positive. The building is a little old (such as leaky ceilings when it rains). But it is a decent place.

Response from the owner1 month ago
Ms. Li, Thank you for your review. We are very pleased you experience was very positive. We also appreciate your feedback about more outside time, and we do recognize the physical improvements at the hospital which we are addressing. We hope you are continuing to do well. All the best!
