About Houston Behavioral Healthcare Hospital

Houston Behavioral Healthcare Hospital, in Houston, Texas, provides mental and behavioral health care services for adults and adolescents, including specialized programs for persons with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. Clients requiring higher-intensity addiction treatment may be referred to the intensive outpatient program or partial hospitalization program for drug rehab treatment.

Treatment at the Houston Behavioral Healthcare Hospital begins with a mental health assessment to screen for symptoms of addiction or co-occurring mental health disorders.

The intensive outpatient program (IOP) is designed for adults and adolescents. Participants attend individual and group treatment sessions for improved coping skills, peer support, and recovery support meetings. Sessions are held 3-4 days per week.

Like other outpatient programs, the partial hospitalization program (PHP) involves participants’ attending individual and group sessions, but PHP participants attend treatment most days of the week. The PHP may be best suited to dual-diagnosis treatments and acute substance use disorders.

Houston Behavioral Healthcare Hospital accepts Aetna, Amerigroup, BCBS, Beacon Healthcare, Cenpatico, First Care, Health First, Cigna, Care N Care, APS, Humana, Magellan, MHN, Molina Healthcare, Optum, Multiplan, Scott & White Health Plan, Secure Horizons, Texas True Choice, TMHP, Value Options, and Wellcare. Medical briefcase icon Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

After completing some form of inpatient care, many clients transition or step down to an outpatient rehab, while some choose to transition from detox directly into outpatient care. High-intensity outpatient programming, including partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) is widely available for clients in early recovery, those leaving detox, and those at an elevated relapse risk. Clients in outpatient care generally engage in robust addiction counseling and recovery education, and some also receive medication assisted treatment (MAT).

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

aftercare iconAftercare

Rehab aftercare programs are based on a model of continuing care and the premise that recovery is a life-long process requiring ongoing client support. Many rehab aftercare services include outpatient care, but clients often continue to receive support after being discharged from formal treatment. Case managers and care teams typically collaborate with clients to design their long-term care plan, which may include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction, among other services.

12-step icon12-Step

12 step programs promote participants' sustained sobriety through rigorous and ongoing peer coaching and personal spiritual growth. Participants routinely attend 12 step meetings, which are available multiple times per day, 365 days per year in most communities. This ensures that those in recovery have prompt access to the structure and support they need when they need it. These programs use spiritual precepts to address the root causes of addiction and encourage compassion, self-awareness, forgiveness, accountability, and acceptance.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

A drug intervention in Texas may be necessary if your loved one is in denial about a substance use disorder. You can partner with intervention services to plan and execute an effective intervention that educates your loved one about addiction and encourages them to get the treatment they need. Many rehab centers offer intervention specialists who can facilitate the intervention and help with a seamless transition to inpatient rehab for treatment.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

mental-health iconMental Health

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

The goal of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in Texas is to change thought patterns, which leads to changes in behavior. Specific techniques during CBT can include self talk, SMART goals, journaling, and positive activities.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

family iconFamily Therapy

The purpose of family therapy is to create a supportive and understanding family dynamic within the family unit. Therapists help individual members to identify and change harmful behavior patterns and improve communication. This provides a stable foundation for the family and their loved one's recovery.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

nicotine iconNicotine Replacement Therapy

When used as recommended, nicotine replacement therapy in Texas provides enough nicotine to help you avoid severe cravings and withdrawal symptoms after quitting smoking. This increases comfort so you're less likely to relapse into your smoking habit.

One star is above generous for this location. After reading the review. I want to pick up my kid. I call them 4 hours before arriving. The manager told me she would get all the papers ready. When I arrived, I have to wait an extra 2 hours. They don't want to let go of my kid. NO WORK ETHIC. THUS PLACE IS DIRTY.

I give it a 2 because those doctors rarely go to see you and the doctors' nurses just ask the same question, they don't help much and the nurses who stay there taking care of you, some of them are so bad that they don't care if you have pain. They only know how to say that you are crazy and they don't help with anything, they don't let everything and when you come in as a volunteer to ask for help and you want to get out of there and they make you sign a 4-hour sheet so that you can leave for more time, they have you and you only have snacks. Pure junk, they don't even give fruits and the food is the worst and they are taking out the insurance and they don't improve that.

If I could give them zero stars, I would. First, they used a number provided by someone besides me to attempt to contact me about my child and it was a WRONG number. Then they didn't know which medications I had consented to and asked me to consent a second time to a medication. Then it took two days to get a phone call returned about what diagnosis they were making, what a treatment plan would look like and how long they thought my child might stay. Then I was told "you know how these kids are" by a nurse when I tried to get details about an "incident" of violence they told me my child was involved in that turned out not to include him doing ANYTHING violent even though he was nearby other patients being violent. "Transitions services" and discharge planning were an absolute joke where they made an appointment with another provider without any input from me about time or location. They asked me what time I could pick my child up then told me to come at 12:00PM then left me waiting until 12:45 before finally brining him out-only after I asked the front desk to contact the house supervisor since the nurse wasn't responding. The nurse who came with him lied and said he'd been in lunch when my child had JUST stated "sorry I'm sweaty I was in the rec playing basketball". The nurse reviewed his (very limited) discharge information including his medications in an open hallway outside the receptionist booth. No safety plan was provided even though I was told by his therapist that one would be and even though their very own Facebook and instagram state that there will be an individual safety plan developed-doesn't do much good if they don't give it to the patient. I called when I realized it wasn't included and was yelled at by a nurse and told to contact medical records if I wanted to see anything else from his chart. Overall this place was unprofessional, told different stories depending who you talked to, and overall made a terrible experience even more stressful with their lack of communication, unprofessional communication and general incompetence. If I could give 0 stars, I would do so. Please choose someplace else for your child if they need emergency services. One bright spot- the patient advocate Reemy did attempt to intervene and help me with issues and Mary at the front desk was delightful and very kind and helpful. The psychiatrist was fine although my interaction was limited with him. But the rest of the experience far outweighs those few people who seemed to genuinely care.

If you or a loved one is in crisis. Go. They will make sure you/they are safe. Beyond that, expect no professionalism. Do not expect they will communicate process or expectations. Do not expect you will be able to ask any questions. Do not expect they will empathize with your desperate pleas for assistance. Do not expect that their concern will be making an already traumatic event less traumatic. Thank you TEXAS, for making mental health options for citizens a choice between the ER and one of the few for- profit businesses with no incentive to provide quality care.

When my daughter was first transferred here I was concerned based on the many poor reviews. While I can t give a 5 star review, my daughter s experience there was mostly positive. You don t need to fear if your teenager needs to be admitted here.Unfortunately there were many communication issues, especially during in patient stay because of mis recorded phone numbers. Some communication issues persisted even when she switched to outpatient treatment. If you ignore that, the staff seemed caring and helpful and my daughter enjoyed going and felt it was helpful to her.The building is old and needs some maintenance. Roof was leaking and buckets were often in the hallway.

is it possible to give 0 stars? the doctor called and told me she had no idea how to treat my child and that she was praying for us. the staff is unprofessional, while visiting they are on their phones barely paying attention. this isn't the place if you are looking for help. not to mention there was a murder there while my son was in attendance, in the adult unit. the utter blatant disregard for care, concern, treatment cannot be left ignored

The patients at your hospital have NAMES and souls, they are not numbers on your computer screen. Can't even return a simple phone call to them. Very rude and arrogant staff. I hope your clinic is condemned.

I cannot recall another time and/or place in which I have felt the need to give any person or business a one star review. As a person who has owned a business of my own, I am more forgiving than most if a customer has a negative experience to the point of leaving a 1 star review. In fact, even if the experience is awful all the way around, I usually try to give benefit of the doubt and talk about the positives , because there is usually at least one or two positives even in an overall disappointing situation that can be acknowledged. However, my family and I s experience with HBH today is the exception. Absolutely nothing positive to report about this particular facility and the staff which we interacted with. Our 15 year old daughter recently attempted to hurt herself and has considered suicide to the point where we had to get her some help. We notified law enforcement of the situation and she was transported to hospital where she could be monitored and evaluated. After several days of being held at the hospital waiting to be transferred, we signed for her to be discharged and we took her to this facility to seek treatment. Upon arrival, my fianc and daughter were treated as if they were criminals. This is not an exaggeration. The staff then took their belongings and put the two of them in a holding room and locked them inside for over 30 minutes without any explanation, let alone consent. In our time of most need, we sought help. But we were met with contempt and disrespect and locked away, as if we were enemy combatants entering an opponent s territory and had just been discovered. My fianc and daughter were absolutely terrified during this experience. Particularly when my fianc was yelling and knocking on the door for someone to let them out and received zero response. For over 30 minutes. I am not only mortified at what transpired today, but I am absolutely terrified at what would have happened if we left our daughter in their care for any period of time without one of us present. If I could give zero stars, I absolutely would. For now, I m going to share this for the next person who may be seeking help at this facility and will report back when I find out the legal ramifications for unlawfully detaining my fianc and 15 year old daughter without any court order or consent given. Disgusting.
