About Fort Healthcare – Behavioral Health

Fort Healthcare’s integrated behavioral health program pairs your behavioral health provider and primary care provider to treat the whole person, meaning the physical, behavioral, social, and emotional aspects of your health. This can include substance abuse addictions and even tobacco.

Psychiatrists are available to offer substance use and addiction treatment alongside co-occurring mental health conditions. Your board certified psychiatrist assesses, evaluates, and recommends treatment for a wide variety of mental health needs. These are medical doctors who have additional training in mental health and can address the mental and physical aspects of psychological conditions.

They’re responsible for prescribing medication and for medication management. This helps address imbalances in body chemistry while monitoring for side effects and ensuring you receive the correct dose. Your treatment can include evidence-based therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy or motivational interviewing. These are immediate and solution focused strategies that address your current needs.

Your program seeks to improve your overall health by delivering both acute behavioral health care and preventive care in the most effective manner. You work with your behavioral health specialist and primary care provider to address nutrition, physical activity, smoking cessation, and other necessary lifestyle changes to support your overall health. Additionally, the program works with you to develop skills that help you to effectively manage behavioral difficulties and emotional dysregulation.

If you require long-term behavioral health treatment, your plan will include care from the licensed mental health professionals and therapists that support your recovery outcomes. They may refer you to specialized programs if your symptoms are acute.

They also offer telehealth services using video for people who are current patients and can’t come in for their appointments. Visits can be held on the phone, tablet, or computer with a webcam. Video visits are billed to the insurance just as if they were office visits.

They accept most major health insurance plans and will verify your insurance before treatment begins.

I had an appointment at 8:30. Logged in with the link they provided at 8:15. I KNOW HOW TO PROPERLY JOIN A TELEHEALTH APPOINTMENT. I call at 8:40 and leave a message. I call again at 8:50 and am told be the receptionist that the provider logged in from 8:34-8:39, didn't see me, and left. They made no attempts to contact me concerning why I wasn't "present" at the appointment. I had completed the confirmation ahead of time. They made no due diligence to ensure there were no technical difficulties causing me to not be present. All contact was initiated by me.This was meant to be a reevaluation of medications. I had all of my notes ready. I wasted 45 minutes of time waiting in the call and on the phone with the staff (while still in the call). This facility clearly does not care if patients are provided with care.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

The goal of drug rehab in Wisconsin is to address drug addiction as a complex issue that involves physical, mental, and relational aspects. During rehab, treatment focuses on each of these areas and gives you the tools you need to achieve and maintain sobriety.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Individual therapy offers you a tailored approach to treat drug addiction. This focuses on your unique needs and offers you personalized support outside of a group setting. You begin to understand what triggers your addictive behavior and develop coping skills that can support your recovery.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

One focus of family therapy is to create a network for the individual in recovery. Families must identify dysfunctional patterns and develop healthier ways of interacting. This can significantly improve their loved one's treatment outcome.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

I have been trying to get an appointment for over six months. When I call they keep saying there is a waiting list. When I call back they tell men the new therapist quit and they need to start a new waiting list. The lack of caring for someone who is struggling is very sad. ... Read More

I felt like they were close minded and incapable of adapting to my needs, I think they should have done this in order to give me the treatment I deserve and not the mediocre one I received.

Don t go here unless u want to be demonized and belittled they ll throw religion in your face & everything. The doctors don t have a clue about mental health & are mean & vindictive to patients. I was so happy and relieved to get out, I go to 16th street behavioral health in Waukesha now & love them. At Fort I was also told to tough it out and was unable to get refills on time, by nurse Becky, to ice the cake. Fudela should be investigated, I often left his office in tears and cried the whole way home, or go to Dr haggard at the county building if u can, Ive heard great things about him

I want to preface my statement by saying I feel Dr Fudala was a skilled and caring clinician in helping my son.I Called The office to get my sons prescription renewed. Was told. They wouldn t renew his prescription, a low-dose of anti-depressant, until he had a face to face with Dr Fudala. Frustrating, but understandable. The soonest they could get him in was two weeks. I notified them that his prescription would be running out soon. They agreed to call in the prescription as long as a face-to-face was scheduled. They said it would be in by the next morning. Fast forward, four days later still had not called it in. My son out of meds by this time. I called the office, politely and calmly explained my frustration with the poor follow-through. Notified her I wished to cancel the appointment and Iseek services for my son elsewhere. Receptionist Offered no apology or recourse. Simply stated OK I will cancel the appointment.
