Family Center for Recovery

About Family Center for Recovery

Family Center for Recovery is a dedicated rehab for drug and alcohol addiction in Lantana, Florida. With residential and outpatient programs for adolescents and adults, they can help clients of almost any age take back their lives after addiction. They have the notable distinction of being the only rehab that’s owned and operated by a four-time board certified psychiatrist who specializes in addiction.

They have a full continuum of care at this rehab which means they can provide the level of support you need at every stage of your recovery. They have residential rehab which is often the first step after detox because it takes you out of your environment and breaks addiction patterns while you work on growth that fosters sobriety.

After that, you’ll probably transition to their partial hospitalization program (PHP) in which you’ll live at home or off site and come to the center for treatment on weekdays. Intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment is the next step down so it’s still outpatient but at a lower level of treatment. They have transitional sober living homes too. In each stage of your journey the same team you know and trust will be there to guide you.

The programs here are guided by the principles of 12 step recovery programs. Throughout your treatment, you’ll also benefit from evidence based therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy and contingency management and motivational enhancement therapy. This is the case for teens in their adolescent program for ages 13 to 17 and for adults in their 18+ program. They also have specialized programs for pregnant clients and LGBTQ+ friendly programs.

Client feedback about this treatment center is really a mixed bag with some clients saying the experience was outstanding and life changing while others say it fell far short. It generally seems that the adult programs have more positive feedback than the adolescent program although it may also just be a matter of which treatment providers they pair you up with and whether they’re a good fit for you.

Honestly if I could give this place 0 stars I would they allow patients to attack one another. That they never do anything about those situations... This place is so bad my cousin left 2 times because of the fights she was in. And she is so close to her own self she doesn't trust other people... I wouldn't send my worst enemy here. Because they choose to do nothing about the aggressive patience... And they advertise that they are lgbtq friendly but my cousin was never respected by staff there or other people.... I wish my cousin would have never gone there in the first place.. 0 stars over all....

This place has done more harm than good, in my opinion. I am a teen. I was 15 when I came to FCFR 2 years ago due to a suicide attempt, and when I arrived and got separated from my parent to be searched, the staff immediately began treating me like trash. The search wasn't thorough at all, but it was rough. I remember the exact staff member who treated me; she went (or goes) by Miss Linda. My therapist was Lauren Byles, and not for a moment did I feel supported and cared for by her. She withheld my sister's letters when she sent them, forcing me to read them aloud so I could have them. She did not allow me to speak Portuguese to my parents, making me almost lose it. My parents said various times that I had been massacred in that place. The food, mid. The staff was downright disrespectful. The therapists think they're too good for anything. Listen, please, from a patient who'd defend the people she met there until the end of the line, do not send your loved ones here. I was a better person when I did not know about this place. - Nicole P

This place may be appropriate for adult treatment, but please, don t send your teen here. There is a complete lack of communication, they encourage you to join an app for support from a very cult-like group of people that are fanatic about the physician and program , trust the process , no news is good news , those were the mantras. Arguing over boundaries after having a whole parent therapy session (required) about boundaries in the same forum is wild. Attacking others for their personal priorities also wild. The medical students and PA students rotate every 4 weeks and are there for their psych round, not to treat the patients. The teacher is the only positive part of the team. FCFR seems to be more appropriate for addiction vs. mental health. Best thing I got out of this place was the list of recommended reading.

Accepted Insurance

Family Center for Recovery works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The staff at Family Center for Recovery helps patients transition back into their own residence and their own life. They offer support groups to continue strengthening the recovery.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. The residential level of care provides 24-hour medical supervision and support necessary to recover. The staff consistently monitors the patient and makes any adjustment required for his or her rehabilitation.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn’t spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. The Family Center for Recovery continues to reach to their former patients to invite them to special events and activities to help them and other thrive in the beautiful new world they have discovered.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Florida provides quality treatment to help individuals overcome dependency related to a wide range of addictive substances. Programs address both the physical and mental aspects of addiction in order to help you make a full recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
postpartum-program thumbnail image
Postpartum Program
The postpartum period is a sensitive time, especially for women in addiction recovery. Rehabs with specialized programs for new mothers will offer compassionate, personalized care to meet each client's needs as they transition from pregnancy to this season of life. Care teams may include obstetricians, pediatricians, and social workers working collaboratively to give women, children, and families a healthy future.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. At their weekend programs, they bring expert guest speakers who educate family members on the many different aspects of addiction, mental illness, and recovery.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

My daughter's first experience here was life changing. They gave her really great care and really awesome resources. This last time around was completely different. They didn't properly communicate her discharge before or after or make sure she had a clear outpatient transition. Instead they told me I had to get her same day or be charged. I live 3 hours away and work full time as a single parent of 2. This is completely unreasonable. We had a pre planned vacation that I communicated and never received a response. I found out my daughter had been discharged from IOP because they told her on a call that she had to drop. It's like they expect everyone's whole world to wrap around the life and schedule of the center and it's completely unreasonable. They doubled her lithium dose without properly communicating. I feel like they messed up and didn't want to admit it. We will not be returning.

My daughter was flown here for treatment and after a week she left. She basically told them she wanted to leave so on day 8 , they waited til she said she wanted to leave and 2 hours later they had packed her bags (missing lots of her belongings) and kicked her out the door. They didn t give her all her personal possessions that they locked up. She was over 20+ hours from home, she hadn t had breakfast or lunch they told her to get out and put her on the streets of a state she had never been to at 19yeqrs old. I luckily got her back home in one piece. However , if you think these people will answer a call from someone they know is questioning them, they WONT! I was also not told that when she got to PHP I would be responsible for her room and board . I fee of about $360 A WEEK!! when I called for help they told me I signed the paperwork about this and sent me a copy of the paperwork. Their administrative assistant must have not read her paperwork because my daughter signed it. And she was in a psychiatric facility in a manic episode on medication. Not legal in my opinion! Now that she is home the horror stories get worse. Now they did not return her personal belongings that they took for lock up and didn t pack some of her clothes and they will not return them til I send a notarized letter from my daughter that I can receive her belongings. Now they didn t have any problems requiring money from me but now I need a notarized letter. And why should I pay for the return of her belongings, it was their responsibility to return her locked up belongings!! They also asked for her medication so I got them filled and overnight them to them. The psychiatrist stopped her Prozac without weaning her and a drug for cravings. THEY DESTROYED HER MEDICATION WHEN HE STOPPED THESE MEDS THE NEXT DAY THEY GOT THEM!! They were filled by me, paid for by me, and was a full prescription and they did not have permission to destroy any medication. This should have been sent home upon discharge just like every other hospital does. This is just a few of the things I encountered with this facility. The only positive thing this place has going for them is Benwa the admission person.

Our daughter is there for 3 weeks now and is showing more signs of improvement than we saw in years. Dr. Moran and the team really know what they are doing and have tools and desire to make a difference. Plus now we are more equipped then ever to keep on track for recovery once she comes back home, thanks to all education we received from FCRF. I finally have hope! I know if you are reading these reviews, you are desperate, same as I was a month ago. You don t need to be, don t wait! I recommend this place without reservation!Update: it has been almost 2 months after my daughter left FCFR and it s the healthiest 2 months we ve seen in a long while. She hasn t used any substances, found a part time job which she loves, graduated her failing semester with As and Bs and about to get her drivers license! It s not all rainbows and butterflies, we still need to work hard daily on keeping things on track, but now the hope is getting more real every day!10 months update: FCFR has truly been a game changer for us! Now my daughter is just a difficult (normal) teenager, but the disaster and desperation is so far behind, it s almost hard to recall how it has been. Now she is committed to getting better and going on with her life, and that s the most important part. Of course there will be ups and downs, but the terror of being constantly afraid for her and of her is far behind and I never ever want to go back. If we ever go back (it gives me anxiety to even write those words), we know who to call. One last thing. There are a lot of comments about lack of tender, love and care at the facility. TLC FCFR does not provide indeed. But they provide something better: treatment THAT WORKS. I m sure every story is different, but I m also sure a lot of people have experienced the same thing I did: TLC does not treat psychiatric illness.

When you have nowhere to turn FCFR will be there for you. Its a great place with a great mission. My brother completed 9 months or so before making it into a shared apartment. My son was not successful at FCFR after 5 months but he hasn t learned to accept strict rules anywhere. My son went to several other facilities before finally making to a shared living arrangement.Seems really strict. Very little or no loved one to family contact. Very little facility interaction with the family. Big focus on codependency and breaking the link to the family. Little to no information sharing between facilities. If you have FL medicaid this is an excellent choice. My son was discharged(AMA) with no discharge plan. Walked for miles with his suitcase before abandoning it on the side of the road. Another facility took him in by sending a medical transport without asking for a dime. Of the next 4 facilities my son transited, FCFR was the only one to release without a discharge plan or helping with the transfer.

The police ministry at this center has been a blessing for my life. The guest speakers they bring in every month have nurtured me spiritually and everyone at this place is so welcoming and kind. The head minister Jorge is a great man of God and he works very hard to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ that is so wonderful.
