About Embark Behavioral Health

Embark Behavioral Health used to be called Embark at The Poconos. They’re located in White Haven, Pennsylvania. Their main focus is helping teenage girls and young women who have issues with substance abuse, mental health issues, eating disorders, and gambling addictions. They have short term residential programs to help them get back on their feet.

Their residential program helps you and your family work through any underlying issues related to your mental health issues and addictions. A daily routine consists of morning exercise, school, therapy, yoga and meditation, and evening group discussions. Their program can include 12 Steps, mindfulness and spiritual healing.

Their center rests among 88 acres of wooded wilderness. This means there’s plenty of opportunity for outside events. You can exercise, play laser tag, or take trips to museums and community events. Inside the center, there are shared rooms, a full kitchen, communal dining rooms, and living rooms so you’ll be comfortable as you get to know your cohorts.

As a former employee, I can say Embark at the Poconos has the best staff who is very well trained in therapeutic communication, DBT skills, and safety skills to ensure patients are safe and healthy. The staff at Embark truly cares about their patients and they are constantly coming up with new ideas and activities so that the kids get the best experience while being away from home. The staff is fully equipped to handle any situation and they always put the safety of the children first. Staff builds therapeutic relationships with the girls so that they feel a sense of safety and security. Embark truly strives for excellent care in order to heal generations and build families closer together. I worked there for 3 years and had an amazing experience working there! I've seen so many lives/families positively change from this program and I can ensure your child will get the best care being there!

We are from Georgia and ended up at the Embark PA location because it was hands down Embark centers are the best RTC that we could find in the US. We were recommended to Embark by 4 other institutions and individuals that work in the mental health field. My daughter will graduate from her 90 day treatment program at the end of this week. My family has had the most amazing experience with all of the Embark staff. From the very first inquiry about the program I was met with an abundance of information. It was extremely detailed information on the entirety of the programs being offered and I was given phones numbers and cell phone numbers and checked on a few times a week until a decision was made. We put our daughter on the waitlist as she was finishing up a stay under a 10-13.We were briefed ahead of time and when we arrived all of the staff were present and did a thorough intake and asked for more detailed information that would help my daughters treatment plan.Upon admission my daughter was a chronic cutter with severe depression and attempted to overdose two seperate times. She was sneaking out of the house, had run away once and was involved in promiscuous behavior. She resorted to shop lifting and using many types and forms of illegal drugs. We were at our wits end as what to do and our options were limited and we were under a time crunch.Throughout her stay I was informed in detail of how things are going and any concerns or medication questions. Everything must be approved by the parents first so that is very comforting. Our therapist is Matt and he is the most amazing, caring, comforting and helpful therapist I have ever worked with. I think I received the same amount of therapy as my daughter. I was very anxious and stressed out, but Matt and the rest of the staff put my mind at ease.We received phone calls from my daughter 2 to 3 times a week and a zoom therapy once a week that included the family. We were able to visit several times (long distance from Georgia) and we attended the parents weeked. The parents weekend was such a hopeful and uplifting experience. To be able to relate to other parents and their struggles made me feel a little less alone in the world. The struggle is real for families affected by mental health struggles and trauma. The house is a real home and all safety measures are in place and everyone is safe and receiving the best treatment for their trauma and struggles. You can rest and and do a little self care (which Embark is really good about reminding you to do). Put your mind at ease knowing your kiddo is safe and learning skills to turn their life around. If you are looking for programs and you can't decided, please consider speaking with Embark and get as much information as you can.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in Pennsylvania can be helpful to individuals who are experiencing substance use disorder and various mental health conditions. It helps you identify damaging thought and behavior patterns and replace them with healthy ones.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy sessions in Pennsylvania offer you a safe space when you're struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. You can openly discuss your challenges and the progress you're making in rehabilitation. Sharing this responsibility with others in your group fosters a commitment to sobriety and helps create strong bonds with your peers.

Personalized therapy sessions in Pennsylvania typically include a safe and nonjudgmental setting in which you can express your deepest emotions and feelings and explore the factors that have contributed to addiction. Therapists tailor the sessions to help you develop healthier thought patterns and behaviors, which improve your self control and build a foundation for your long term sobriety.

Motivational interviewing in Pennsylvania gives you the opportunity to share your perspective and explore your ideas and motivation for change. Your therapist will walk you through the four steps of engaging, focusing, evoking, and planning to empower you to make any desired changes in your life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Couples therapy in Pennsylvania is typically short term treatment that focuses on building skills that lead to positive long term relationship changes. Sessions with the therapist may occur both jointly and individually.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing

Family therapy teaches individual family members in Pennsylvania the benefits of collectively combating addiction. Therapists help individual members establish healthy boundaries between themselves and their loved one who is struggling with addiction. This helps improve emotional support systems and creates a bond so families work together to sustain long term recovery.

Artistic talent is not required to participate in creative arts therapy. This form of rehab treatment in Pennsylvania simply allows you to try different art media and use the one that works best for you to express yourself. The goal is not to produce quality art but to use the creative process as an outlet for recovery.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

I was lucky enough to attend Embark twice. Once in 2022 and again in 2023, about a year apart. Although I went for similar treatment, both experiences were so different.Embark is truly a great program through and through. It is one of the best out there but I wanted to highlight some flaws that I saw in my stay.It s hard to base sending someone you love here based off other people s experiences and reviews, because it mostly boils down to the group of kids that you will be surrounded by. My first experience I was very pleased with the social aspect and the kids I was around. It was truly a good healing environment. The second time I was met with more violence, drama and hostility by the other kids. Another thing I saw was kids becoming extremely codependent on each-other to the point where they weren t focusing on their own treatment. Obviously, you can t control other people but if you are more aggressive or have codependency issues this might not be the right place. Both times I was amazed at the individual treatment. The therapists and staff are absolutely amazing!! It s like a family. They all really love what they do and care about the kids. Matt and Emily were my therapists and the connections I built with them were amazing. I ve never had a therapist like them. Katie and Jayda are also such great people and I m so glad to have met them! From the first to the second time I attended, there was significantly less group therapy. Some of it was replaced with activities or student groups. It was frustrating to me as someone who came for the therapy aspect, because things like coloring and making bracelets weren t really helping me and my mental health.Alicia the school teacher is amazing! She was so helpful and knowledgeable. She tried her best to replicate a classroom environment to help kids learn and succeed. Most of the food is frozen and from what I saw, the chefs didn t really have compassion for kids with dietary restrictions. I saw them giving kids the same meals over and over and getting annoyed when they asked for something else. I feel like this could be an easy fix which is why I chose to include it.Embark is a wonderful option for treatment but just take these things into consideration!

Your feedback will be shared with our culinary team to ensure that they are attentive to individual dietary needs and preferences. Thank you again for your feedback and for choosing Embark. We admitted our 17 year old daughter here on voluntary status. After many years struggling with depression, anxiety and a multitude of years of therapy, my daughter needed drastic help. She attended Embark residential at the White Haven PA campus and graduated after a two month stay. I have to say Embark was the best treatment for my daughter and made a huge impact in her life. The entire staff here is exceptional and her assigned therapist, Emily, was outstanding beyond what words can describe! I would strongly suggest for any parent to consider Embark for their young loved ones struggling emotionally in life!

The team at Embark s program in White Haven provides excellent care. My niece recently discharged. She has struggled with depression, anxiety and low self-esteem for many years. This program provided her with a safe space to work through her past trauma and also supported her parents (my sister and brother-in-law) in learning how to better communicate. Our family will be forever grateful for the support she received.

If I could give 0 stars I would, and if it weren't for legal/financial consequences, I wouldn't have given them a dime. My child was there for almost 3 months last year, and it was essentially a teenage spa. She was unenrolled at her high school without my direct knowledge (probably hidden in the contract I assigned), and I had to re-enroll her myself after her discharge, as Embark left me completely in the dark. While she was there, she was allowed to sleep all day. She received weekly therapy and all they seemed to put effort into was their monthly 'family day's, which is just an exaggerated demonstration - a song and dance - to convince you that they are actually doing anything...gotta justify the $6k a day bill. Then I'm hearing from my daughter, from a peer she stayed in contact with - that a former staff member pursued a relationship with one of the girls after she was discharged. When I brought her in, I had really really high hopes and I thought it was going to change her life... No. Not by a long shot. Save your money and effort and look elsewhere.
