Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

inpatient iconInpatient

Inpatient care provides timely, thorough medical treatment for symptoms you may notice as you start using less of an addictive drug or alcohol. During your stay, you’ll receive psychotherapy, medication and other services that help you begin to function better. When substance abuse or mental illness puts the well-being of you or someone else at serious risk, inpatient care provides protection, security and a path to recovery.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Live at home and participate in most of your typical daily activities when you participate in our intensive outpatient treatment program. You’ll take part in meetings several times a week with a therapist and your peers while learning how to stay sober and get the most out of 12-step programs and community support groups. They are committed to helping you succeed so they assess your progress and work with you to adjust your treatment plan as needed.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Their expert therapists thoroughly understand the social, environmental and biological reasons people act and think certain ways. That means their behavioral health professionals are specially qualified to help you find ways to live more healthfully and happily.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

aftercare iconAftercare Support

The longer you receive support, the more likely you’ll remain abstinent. That’s why you’ll want to join their free Aftercare Group, which meets for six weeks to reinforce skills you learned during outpatient substance abuse treatment or partial hospitalization at Palos.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in Illinois is designed to help people recover from addiction to a number of substances. The length of each program and its intensity tend to vary, and the plan of care is based on your individual needs.

check iconDual Diagnosis

You need specialized care when you experience both a substance abuse disorder and a mental health condition—also called co-occurring disorders or dual diagnosis. Choose Palos Health for assistance reducing the symptoms of mental illness and recovering from chemical dependency. At Palos, their team will work with you to develop a care plan tailored to you. Co-occurring disorders affect almost every aspect of your life, so effective treatment cares for your whole self.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

animal-therapy iconAnimal Therapy

Palos Hospital has an animal-assisted therapy program known as Wags Therapy. Highly trained volunteer handler/dog teams provide therapeutic visits seven days a week to patients who meet their medically approved criteria. Animal therapy (aka pet therapy or animal-assisted therapy) can be very healing, as it allows patients to bond with animals, who give unconditional love. This is particularly useful for those who suffered trauma by the hands of people, who may be able to trust and form closer attachments to animals than humans at certain stages of rehabilitation.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Good relationships with your loved ones involve joy, intimacy and support. But family and marital relationships also sometimes create stress and conflict. Turn to a neutral therapist at Palos Health for assistance navigating the challenges, making healthy decisions about relationships and strengthening family ties. Couples counseling at Palos helps you prevent, recognize and resolve conflicts in a committed relationship. Their skilled, experienced therapists can guide you and your partner through many issues.

medical-detox iconExperiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

family iconFamily Therapy

You’ll find it easier to take steps that enrich your life when you get support from your loved ones. That’s why they may ask about family members or close friends who could participate in your treatment plan. They’ll help you identify people who’d improve your outcome.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Many people find tremendous benefit from the ongoing feedback and support a group therapy session provides. Groups are led by behavioral health specialists and provide a safe structure and environment. You’ll have an opportunity to discuss your experiences with a group of your peers and learn strategies to better manage your condition. Convenient day and evening group sessions are available.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life. Individual psychotherapy explores the thoughts, feelings, behaviors and relationships that led to hospital admission and provides strategies for constructively dealing with them.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

music1 iconSound Therapy

Sound therapy (aka sound healing or vibrational medicine) uses sonic vibrations to stimulate healing at the cellular level. Vibrations, either from the human voice or resonant objects like tuning forks, gongs, or Tibetan bowls, affect cellular resonance in the body, which can help heal the impact of anxiety, depression, trauma, and more.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Palos Hospital is the worst hospital I ever have visited, the nurses don't wash their hands, don't wear gloves and his attitude isn't good, if you have a loved one and need help, I don't recommend it.

Briana is extremely incompetent, nasty, rude, doesn't listen well at all, and refused to answer a simple question regarding documents l was trying to submit before my appointment which now l will not schedule after speaking with her!!!!!! When l requested to speak to her manager but instead she decided to hang up 2 times which confirms her RUDENESS unprofessionalism representing Cognitive Clinic horribly. That tells me this is a unethical unprofessional clinic l would never want services from.

The receptionist, or whoever called me, was pence of rudeness just continued to go her route not even trying to give me other options they wanted to give me their treatment of shock therapy in my head, and I told them that I do not feel comfortable on doing any shock therapy in my head and they continue to say that and They promised so many times that they would call to check up on me nobody ever did and the receptionist was so rude and then towards the end when I said that I would look into it with my insurance company to find another psychiatrist. Oh, she flipped out and she said with the best of luck to you Seriously, do not go there I deal with Northwestern on everything else my heart, therapy on my leg home health is unbelievable Northwestern home health. They allow mentally ill patients with phones to call and harrass people with vulgar and disgusting commentary. One patient from this hospital has been calling my underage niece and left disgusting voicemails. The patients are obviously left unsupervised and when called about this issue, the nurse who answered CLAIMED nothing could be done. This place should be under investigation for neglect of care and for lack of concern for public wellfare
