Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

When you choose drug rehab in New York, you'll participate in a variety of treatments that are designed to help you live a drug-free lifestyle. Common methods of treatment include group, individual, and family counseling, medication management, nutrition, exercise, and management of co-occurring mental health disorders.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

substance-abuse iconSubstance Abuse

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

This place is a joke. It's more of a homeless shelter for recovering addicts then it is a program for recovery. I was highly unpleased with the complete lack of enforcing program rules by staff. This place is like a free for all. It's supposed to be a 60-90 day program. Instead there's people who have been there for 7 months. You don't have to worry about getting kicked out if you don't attend group. Like I said in the beginning, a complete joke.

I was a CARS employee, not a client, but I found much of what I observed of clients' treatment, even basic care, problematic. Concerns I brought to management and HR were dismissed without consideration; instead I was reprimanded for my "tone" in email correspondence and given a performance review that was completely different from the glowing informal feedback I'd been given up to that point - my reviewer even encouraged me to find work elsewhere since I was clearly "unhappy" there. I would never recommend this place for a loved one who was genuinely struggling with dependence and recovery. If you are in need of a program to fulfill some kind of technical requirement or compliance, as long as you can handle the risk to your basic health and hygiene (given some of the issues while I was there I DEFINITELY wouldn't trust them to perform adequate pandemic cleaning or safety), and can keep your head down to avoid getting on the bad side of anyone who could hold up your completion of the program, it's probably minimally adequate.

keeps addicts off the street which of course keeps them sober. you share a room with 3 people and a bathroom with 7 other people. the community contains around 50-60 people. it is a coed facility. very strict about the rules. you feel like you are walking on eggshells all day. feels like they are more worried about waiting for you to make a mistake and kick you out than they are willing to help you better yourself. there are no peer advocates so none of the staff truly understand you and are very by the book. 1/3 of the people that are there truly want to get clean 1/3 are there to please their families or significant other and 1/3 are mandated by court or jail. the foods pretty good but they do not follow the 12 steps either
