About BriteLife Recovery

BriteLife Recovery is in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. They have detox services, and they treat substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health issues. They have a men’s residential treatment program at the Hilton Head Island location. The women’s residential treatment house is only a few minutes away in Bluffton. They accept insurance from most of the major providers.

BriteLife is a Joint Commission Accredited facility. They use the CCISC model of care (comprehensive, continuous, integrated). Through this model, they treat both substance use and co-occurring disorders in an integrated and continuous fashion through accessible and welcoming care that includes the family where appropriate. They use small, intimate settings and medical treatments custom-tailored to each person.

They also use a gender-specific curriculum because men and women have widely varying experiences. They use a trauma-informed approach since substance use is often a response to past trauma and its significant effects on emotional, neurological, cognitive, and developmental processes. They also have intervention services if you’re trying to help a loved one acknowledge his/her addiction and get them into treatment.

The detox services are inpatient. Whether you’re addicted to alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, or stimulants, they’ll monitor your detox around the clock. They’ll help you safely detox and then once you’re stabilized, you can begin a residential program. Alcohol detox usually takes between seven and 10 days while opioid detox is about five to seven days, though every individual is different.

The men’s and women’s residential programs offer semi-private rooms. You’ll have access to a pool. You’ll get intensive therapy while in the program. Some of the therapies include one-on-one counseling and group therapy. There’s also cognitive behavioral therapy and trauma-informed therapy. They encourage families to take part in counseling sessions since addiction affects the entire family.

The programs get high praise from former clients. One client mentioned that the facility was clean, there were beautiful views, and the food was great. She also said the therapy made a big difference for her and the program changed her life.

Medical briefcase icon Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient rehabs provide flexibility and accommodation for clients who prefer to remain in their homes and workplaces while in recovery. They also facilitate clients' sustained sobriety for clients stepping down from intensive inpatient care. Clients may engage in day, evening, night, or weekend treatment sessions, which typically involve addiction counseling and recovery-focused life skills training. Many outpatient facilities also offer medication assisted treatment (MAT) and evidence-based holistic therapies, such as yoga and massage.

aftercare iconAftercare

Clients engaged in a rehab aftercare program are in a more advanced stage of recovery. Many have already completed inpatient detox and/or rehab and have returned to their home, workplace, and community. Rehab aftercare services are designed to support clients' recovery over the long term and typically include a broad portfolio of resources, such as peer coaching and 12 step program induction. Clients may collaborate with their case manager and care team to create their care plan.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

24-hour clinical care in South Carolina is designed to protect those in recovery from health risks of withdrawal. For example, opioid withdrawal can cause vomiting and diarrhea that results in a life-threatening level of dehydration. Withdrawal from benzodiazepines can cause seizures which can be fatal. To avoid these risks, supervised medical detox is recommended. Under this care, medical professionals constantly monitor patients to ensure a safe detox process.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Withdrawing from addictive substances, like alcohol, benzodiazepines (like Xanax), or opioids, occurs during the detox process. Since this process can have uncomfortable and even dangerous side effects, the mission of a medically assisted detox is to provide an expert medical team to help monitor your health around the clock. They will work to keep you as safe and comfortable as possible, administering necessary medications to alleviate any withdrawal symptoms.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

If you are African American do not go here. I was assaulted by a group of white guys who thought it was funny to throw things at me. I told staff about it and while I was expressing my grievance they said I was disrespectful because I would not allow them to tell me it's nothing they can do about it. I understand it's a business and why get rid of a group of guys for one complaint (compassion? Sure right) along with a list of constant mistreatment by staff. The chief marketing director Ed cursed me out on the phone during my 15 minute phone call. My wife sent a email the next day and he apologized to my wife. I was there to get help for my problems I already had, and they added more to it, SMH. There is a list of other things that transpired so I left facility for my safety. Oh yeah and every incident I was involved in was on camera. Mw

The Women's program at Britelife changed my life! The individualized therapy and family therapy made such a big difference for me. It was the first time I was able to work through a lot of my traumas that kept me in the grips of addiction. The facility is clean and has a beautiful view. Plus, the food was great and they were very receptive to requests. I highly recommend BriteLife!

I am so grateful for having the opportunity to go to BriteLife and get help for my alcohol addiction. I couldn't do it on my own. Through medically assisted detox to moving to the women's house, it was challenging and incremental to me safely achieving sobriety. The house and grounds are beautiful, the therapists work hard and provide a lot of individual and group care with a variety of behavioral techniques. Well balanced hot meals are provided three times a day and prepared by a professional chef and team. We always had a clean house, bathrooms, bedding and sheets. We went on outings to AA or NA meetings. We had opportunities to go to the gym, attend yoga, attend art therapy, participate in a drum circle, and get acupuncture. We had special outings on weekends where we would go to the beach, a park, go to a movie, get a manicure or pedicure, and we even had Himalayan Salt Therapy. In house therapy lasted from 9am to 6pm Monday through Friday and went from 9am to 3pm on Saturday. On Sundays we could go to church and we had some form of AA/NA every day. We were kept busy and were given a decent amount of supervised down time. There is always a nurse on duty as well as a residential manager. We were supervised at all times, but it didn't feel like we were imprisoned. All of our needs were taken care of including doctors visits and tobacco/vape runs once a week.As for people that are discharged early, there are people that come in that don't want to be there and act out and make it hard for the people that do want to be there. Those disruptions compromise the rehabilitation of the people that want to be there. Those people that can't tolerate the environment leave voluntarily or they did something egregious and need to leave for the safety of the patients and staff as a whole. From BriteLife and my 6 day detox and 28 day program, I chose to go ahead to Lantana Recovery to get more reinforcement. The combination of the two rehab facilities is extremely powerful in the road to recovery.Personally, I really value my time at BriteLife and the tools I gained from being there I will use in my life always. Going from BriteLife to Lantana is the best thing I've done for my personal well-being in my adult life. I actually do feel different and I act differently. I'm no longer using alcohol and don't want to ever again. I could never have had this type of transformation on my own. I'm eternally grateful.I'd like to thank the staff individually, but anonymity is a huge part of this process.Thank you, BriteLife.

One star is over statement! This facility failed my son! They will not communicate with you and or return your calls. I was on the list for full details. The case manager and TEAM failed to confirm my son s discharge date. They knew our son linked with another patient. The other patient gave our son drugs in exchange for a ride home. They would not call me about a facility transfer to a sober living or call the facility back.
