I was admitted here due to exhaustion, fatigue, and hypercalcemia. I was held down and given medication against my will. I have bruises on my body. I did have an advocate to defend my rights and luckily was released within a reasonable time frame. I feel sorry for those though, who that perhaps are confused by the system and unable to speak their truth clearly. They are victimized in a place that supposedly stands for rehabilitation. Pharmaceuticals are dangerous especially for those of us that are free from that paradigm. I have no family history of mental illness, substance abuse, or co-dependency yet my records were not taken into account. I was almost drugged with something I was allergic to & luckily a kind nurse listened to me before they dosed me. I believe by the time I left my stay my records were up to date and my aftercare therapy is going well. If you or someone you love is hospitalized you must advocate for your rights to control your own body!!! (I ll spare everyone the horrific pictures of my bruises on my arms and legs.)

Everyone whom i met genuinely understood my feelings and I will always refer others as this place is Heaven sent and All the people were treated with dignity and made to feel significant as equals and the atmosphere was archangelic and I am very thankful and I feel I was positively blessed by every person I came into to contact with as I felt a real spiritual connection to the fulfillment of my desired recollection and ultimate recovery . Accepted Insurance

BHC Alhambra Hospital works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
When an individual is in denial about their substance use disorder, their loved ones may organize a drug intervention in California. This effort involves gently but assertively confronting the individual about their substance use and sharing how it has affected those who care about them. A professional interventionist may also attend this gathering. Their expertise with intervention services can prove helpful in guiding the conversation to a positive result.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
Commonly known as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is an intensive form of outpatient treatment where clients meet during the day and return home in the evening. PHP treatment doesn't require 24-hour care and often serves as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or a step-down after a residential program. With PHP treatment, you can receive daily support for 6 to 8 hours which includes evidence-based therapies and medication management. The cost of PHP treatment typically varies but averages 90 days.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

The goal of couples therapy in California is to strengthen the couple's relationship. The therapist may take one or more approaches to counseling which may include the Gottman method, emotionally focused therapy, behavioral therapy, and psychodynamic couple's therapy.

The goal of nicotine replacement therapy in California is to mitigate the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. It cuts down on your cravings by supplying a small dose of nicotine without exposing your body to the toxins of cigarette smoke.

Hands down the best treatment I have ever received from a detox unit. All of the people there were carrying compassionate, loving, considerate, and went out oftheir way to make sure I was comfortable. And that my needs were accommodated. To me, it s obvious that this is a reflection of leadership, strong leadership so much respect Impromptu everybody the employees, the leadership and the whole team A1.

DO NOT let your child get sent to this facility. They have zero communication with parents. The place is dirty and disgusting. My son requested to talk to his case manager and she walked up to him and rudely said what do you want . He was housed with a child that must be coming off of drugs that had to be tackled and sedated and was threatened to be stabbed with a pencil by another kid. We pulled him out ASAP because we should have been notified about all of these events. I m filling a grievance with my insurance and I m reporting this facility to everywhere I can report them to. He was there for a week and we got ONE call with the doctor. My son has been home for to days and can t sleep because of the trauma he went through atthis dirty disgusting hospital. His case worker was NOTHING but rude and mean.

After several admissions to different hospitals since I was 13 years old including here at BHC (as well as Reasons) this was by far the most life changing, individualized hospitalization I have ever had.It didn t start out the best. I was in a very dark part of my life when I got back to BHC. I was admitted to a unit that I don t normally go to and I was terrified and didn t trust anybody that was trying to help me slowly but surely I came to find that the staffing and my treatment team saw something in me that I didn t see in myself. I didn t see a future anymore and it was a scary time in my life. This time in the hospital, things were different. I, for the first time, had a team working with me that didn t give me a generic treatment plan. Dr. Jennifer Rousch took on my case and is one of the main reasons I have come as far as have. I am on conservatorship and she was in contact with my treatment team from Orange County on a daily basis planning the special care that I needed and gave me pep-talks to keep me motivated and that little push to keep going. Thank you so much Dr. Rousch. She coordinated a special modified program for me where I got the dietary assistance from reasons while still getting the support from the mental health. I have been on the eating disorder unit several times here at BHC, this time instead of me doing full programming on EDO I stayed at the unit for the day but my dietician, Taylor, came to see me a couple times a week and helped me with my dietary needs with therapeutic approach. She made sure my health was restored, spent a good amount of time with me and made me feel okay eating again. For the first time in a long time, I trusted a dietician. Thank you so much Taylor.Martel( the unit coordinator of adult1) is one of the most dedicated, empathetic and compassionate nurses I have ever met. He made sure on a daily basis that everything was okay and that I was being treated okay, even down to just asking me how my sleep was the night before. He has amazing heart and it shows. Thank you Martel.Dr. McNeel was my psychiatrist and he has known me for several years. He has seen me at my best and he has seen me at my worst. I have really been a handful! But, he kept trying with me and helped me get mentally more stable. There was a lot of up s and downs and lessons learned. But thank you Dr. McNeel for everything you did for me. You helped me in more ways than you know. Your fist bumps were the best!Another person who went above and beyond for me is the NP Adrienne. Thank you so much Adrienne for all of the time that you spent with me, how you never rushed me. You met with me almost every day that you worked and I will always remember our time together.JORGE MY BOY!!! Jorge, one of the main LVNs here at BHC took me under his wing and showed me how if feels to have someone truly care about you. Thank you Jorge, you ll always be in my heart and I am so grateful for you.DAISY-DUKE, SAVANNAH-BANANA, MY GIRLS!! You two spent a lot of time with me being my 1:1 support and I grew to love and respect both of you so much. Thank you for being so amazing to me. Caring about me. Supporting me. 1,000x thank you to my girls.LOU!!!! hey youuuuuuu it s Louuuu Oh boy Lou, you re one of a kind. Thank you for making me smile every single day that you work. I ll miss you.So to sum it up, I highly recommend BHC to anybody who is needing help. Even if you are at a place in your life where you don t know if you want help or even need help, reach out because I didn t think I was capable and BHC showed me that I am.Thank you again to my BHC team. You all play a huge role in my journey. Thank you so so much.

staff are very rough with the patients. they do not try to meet patients where they are, and in fact they seemed to take pride and joy in asserting dominance and control over us. they also promised phone time but didn't give out the phones, the list for phone calls was rarely abided by, and the doctor was never in so getting discharged took way longer than it should have. upon discharge, i had to beg the staff to look for my bag because he didnt believe me when i said i had a second duffel. i also left the facility with multiple bruises from being restrained. there are definetly worse psych wards, but most of the (male) staff here were very unnattentive. The men specifically were always engaged in locker room talk when I approached the counter, and they'd dismiss me with a wave in favor of hearing me out. most of the female staff were helpful though, and i appreciate how the nurses and case workers would try to meet me halfway.

I AM SO ANGRY AT THIS PLACE.My sister was taken there on a 5150 hold. They released her before she was stable and she has not been seen or heard from since. They failed at their job, they failed to keep her safe, and now she is missing.DO NOT LET YOUR LOVED ONE BE TAKEN HERE. FIND LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE.
