staff are very rough with the patients. they do not try to meet patients where they are, and in fact they seemed to take pride and joy in asserting dominance and control over us. they also promised phone time but didn't give out the phones, the list for phone calls was rarely abided by, and the doctor was never in so getting discharged took way longer than it should have. upon discharge, i had to beg the staff to look for my bag because he didnt believe me when i said i had a second duffel. i also left the facility with multiple bruises from being restrained. there are definetly worse psych wards, but most of the (male) staff here were very unnattentive. The men specifically were always engaged in locker room talk when I approached the counter, and they'd dismiss me with a wave in favor of hearing me out. most of the female staff were helpful though, and i appreciate how the nurses and case workers would try to meet me halfway.

Accepted Insurance

BHC Alhambra Hospital works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
When an individual is in denial about their substance use disorder, their loved ones may organize a drug intervention in California. This effort involves gently but assertively confronting the individual about their substance use and sharing how it has affected those who care about them. A professional interventionist may also attend this gathering. Their expertise with intervention services can prove helpful in guiding the conversation to a positive result.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
Commonly known as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is an intensive form of outpatient treatment where clients meet during the day and return home in the evening. PHP treatment doesn't require 24-hour care and often serves as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or a step-down after a residential program. With PHP treatment, you can receive daily support for 6 to 8 hours which includes evidence-based therapies and medication management. The cost of PHP treatment typically varies but averages 90 days.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

The goal of couples therapy in California is to strengthen the couple's relationship. The therapist may take one or more approaches to counseling which may include the Gottman method, emotionally focused therapy, behavioral therapy, and psychodynamic couple's therapy.

The goal of nicotine replacement therapy in California is to mitigate the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. It cuts down on your cravings by supplying a small dose of nicotine without exposing your body to the toxins of cigarette smoke.

I AM SO ANGRY AT THIS PLACE.My sister was taken there on a 5150 hold. They released her before she was stable and she has not been seen or heard from since. They failed at their job, they failed to keep her safe, and now she is missing.DO NOT LET YOUR LOVED ONE BE TAKEN HERE. FIND LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE.

I was recently sent here after being wrongly placed on a 5150 hold by my spouse who was mad I was trying to leave him. I missed 3 days and my arrival here because of how overly sedated I was at the ER. The entire process of everything was very traumatic. The only reason I am giving 1 star because well I have to but also most of the staff was friendly. I spent 5 days in this hospital. Not once do they provide any sort of therapy. My estranged husband got to speak with a social worker multiple times and I was at the mercy of what he wanted not what was right for me. Locking people up in a hallway full of rooms helps with nothing. Shoving pills down peoples mouths helps with nothing when you don t provide tools to help with the issue. I was neglected from the moment I went to the ER and once I was here. I was needing help for DV matters and someone to see the obvious signs of what had happened. I was left to myself bruised, still bleeding from a large cut on my finger from 2 days before and I also kept saying my foot really hurts. I asked for ice for it to help with the pain and was told no it s not prescribed for you. Fast forward to when I got out, I was finally able to help myself once I was free. I went to a different ER to get the treatment I needed this whole time. It was determined I actually had multiple fractures in my foot which I was made to walk around on. That ER also helped me with filing a DV report and making my home a safe place for my kids and I. I was told when I left I would have an appointment set up for therapy. It s not therapy it s just a psychiatrist for more drugs. Not everyone wants to just take your drugs. Some want to work their problems out and need professionals to help with that. How on earth is it that I can be accused of attempted suicide and get not a single one on one therapy session (telephone, in person, zoom ) nothing. But my ex got provided with all the resources he needed and has had multiple therapy sessions. The pillows are a joke, it s uncomfortable, they may or may not have underwear for you. The clothes are paper and you are very limited if you ask for another pair of anything. Our bathroom light was out for 3 days so we had to shower in the dark. The entire mental health system is a joke I have discovered after this but this hospital specifically why do you not provide any therapy? How do you expect people to have better tools when they go home if you provide nothing? In 5 days I learned to breathe for 4 seconds and how to eat a raisin in a very sexual way. How would you like me to use that next time I am in crisis or trying to run away from abuse? Hopefully changes will come because my life has been ruined after this incident and I suffer from horrible PTSD (the ERs fault) but maybe if you offered people to talk to I could have gotten help before it got to this. The doctor spends maybe 60 seconds with you and will threaten you with a 14 day hold based on whatever was written about you. All I learned from this experience is to never ask for help and always say your fine. A whole week of my life is gone, 2 weeks pay and I am now 100 times worse then when I came in and still stuck on my own to call 5,000 numbers to try and find a therapist. Along with my legal actions I m taking towards the ER I will be putting my anger from this all into fighting for changes to the 5150 laws and what mental health hospitals have to provide for patients.

I just finished my stay at BHC Alhambra in adult unit 2. I was in a vulnerable state in my life but felt so welcomed during my stay. There was so many people who helped me with my mental health. Some staff members that stuck out to me were Vivian, Diego, Rigo, Douglas, Teresa, Alejandra, Martin, Anthony, Jackie, Pam, Dr Jones and many more. Thank you for making my stay here memorable!

It would be almost a year since I came here, but I would like to say around November of 2023 the lady who is a phlebotomist with curly hair and glasses is unprofessional. I remember she went rough on me, which caused my arm to be in pain. I let my mom and nurses know, and they told me to advocate for myself. When I saw her, I told her to do it carefully because she went too rough on me, but unfortunately she threw a tantrum. She started gaslighting and manipulating me. She started saying I'm a liar and don't know what I'm saying or don't know how veins and blood work, but I do because I went to the hospital many times where nurses never cause my arm to be in pain after taking out my blood. The lady is very unprofessional, especially working at a mental health hospital. She should know better and care about teens feelings. Also, she would talk crap about me to the other nurses, which is very unprofessional. I remember I was trembling a lot because I went through this kind of trauma. They need a better phlebotomistwho would care about people health and respect their feelings.

Honestly, the place was not that bad. As someone who spent approximately 20 days there (The reason being that I showed no progress because i said the same thing every day. The reason behind that being that the single med that they gave me, that they just upped the dose for multiple times, was not working, though McNeel refused to change it.), the staff were pleasant on the adolescent unit. My only real complaints come from serious lack of communication regarding paperwork and just information in general being given to parents, but also because of the doctors there. One of the two who were there during my stay would keep everyone far longer than necessary (McNeel), while the other would let people out even though they were not ready (Balcos). All of the issues there otherwise were caused by patients, which is outside of the location's control really. For example, ants in the sink; it was just because of people bringing food into their rooms. I saw many people come and go, most left within about 5-7 days on average, but the longest time i saw someone stay was 13 days, other than me. If you don't mind a lack of communication, and are just looking for a place with pleasant staff for your child to be around, then this is the place. Overall, I did end up enjoying my stay after a little bit of adjusting, all thanks to the wonderful staff who really did make a difference. Joe and Jonathan in particular definitely helped make my stay a lot more bearable with their humor and overall kindness. There is another staff member who I truly did appreciate during my stay, Shelby. On top of the wonderful staff, there was also really good food. If there was one thing I would change, it would be the fact that Ian beat me at rubix race. I will beat you one day at that game Ian, I will. ALSO VERY IMPORTANT ALL THE STAFF THERE USED MY PREFERRED NAME ONCE I CORRCTED THEM (IF EVEN NECESSARY)
