About UChicago Medicine AdventHealth GlenOaks School Pheasant Ridge Campus

The GlenOaks School and Transition Program is part of the University of Chicago Medicine and AdventHealth network. They’re an education campus for kids and teens with mental and behavioral learning difficulties. It’s located in Glendale Heights, Illinois. To be admitted, you’ll have to be diagnosed with a social and emotional disability.

Their campus is intended for kids in grades 3-12. If you’re in grammar school or junior high, they’ll provide counseling, help you set educational goals and meet them, and give you tips on how to cope with school, growing up, and dealing with bullies. There’re special tracks that focus on technology and learning tools, pet therapy, and having emotional support to get through your day. There’s also a robust athletic program, which includes accessible sports for students with disabilities. The high school track for older teens offers different therapies in art, music, video games, and sports in addition to academic subjects.

If you’re aging out of foster care, they’ll have services for you as well. The transition program assists with job training, learning how to live independently, and reconciling any emotional trauma that you might have gone through. They’ll also coach you as you prepare to enter college.

its okay. very small building, a few disrespectful staff members, basically zero extracurricular activities, worthless counseling, etc.if you're like me, and just trying to wake up everyday and get through school, this place is worth a shot. sometimes, okay is all you need.

Accepted Insurance

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth GlenOaks School Pheasant Ridge Campus works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Clinical Services

Animal therapy (aka pet therapy or animal-assisted therapy) can be very healing, as it allows patients to bond with animals, who give unconditional love. This is particularly useful for those who suffered trauma by the hands of people, who may be able to trust and form closer attachments to animals than humans at certain stages of rehabilitation.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Lack of professional training. The school appeared to be focused on growing the school without thinking about the quality of services.

Glen Oaks understands the needs of students with mental disabilities that might prevent them from accessing their education in a traditional way. They provide support and education in a setting that is suitable to the student. All our interactions with the staff and administration have been positive.

I honestly wish I could give this hospital 0 stars. The lack of communication and care here is ridiculous. This place should be shutdown before they do more harm to patients. Zero interventions, zero compassion. Disrespectful staff and physicians Transfer your loved ones elsewhere.

I recently transferred back to my home school and I noticed how far ahead my classmates were ahead from me. The stuff that the teachers teach is so outdated to what you should be learning. The building itself looks like it hasn t gotten fixed in decades and half the staff don t even care about their job and are just there for the money. I m so glad I transferred out of there. Parents if your child tells you their having a hard time there, I suggest you pull them out

I do not recommend going to this place, from the minute I walked in these neglectful doors, I realized the school teachers are just pathetic and only care about the money here. 1. One of the counselors kept asking me if I was on my period because I was angry. Outright disgusting to ask a child. 2. The second thing a counselor asked me was why are you a transgender? Like first of all, stop violating my boundaries and asking that inappropriate question. And we do not call people transgenders like girl stop.
