About UChicago Medicine AdventHealth GlenOaks School Pheasant Ridge Campus
The GlenOaks School and Transition Program is part of the University of Chicago Medicine and AdventHealth network. They’re an education campus for kids and teens with mental and behavioral learning difficulties. It’s located in Glendale Heights, Illinois. To be admitted, you’ll have to be diagnosed with a social and emotional disability.
Their campus is intended for kids in grades 3-12. If you’re in grammar school or junior high, they’ll provide counseling, help you set educational goals and meet them, and give you tips on how to cope with school, growing up, and dealing with bullies. There’re special tracks that focus on technology and learning tools, pet therapy, and having emotional support to get through your day. There’s also a robust athletic program, which includes accessible sports for students with disabilities. The high school track for older teens offers different therapies in art, music, video games, and sports in addition to academic subjects.
If you’re aging out of foster care, they’ll have services for you as well. The transition program assists with job training, learning how to live independently, and reconciling any emotional trauma that you might have gone through. They’ll also coach you as you prepare to enter college.

Levels of Care
Outpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatment
Mental Health
Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.
Clinical Services
Animal Therapy
Animal therapy (aka pet therapy or animal-assisted therapy) can be very healing, as it allows patients to bond with animals, who give unconditional love. This is particularly useful for those who suffered trauma by the hands of people, who may be able to trust and form closer attachments to animals than humans at certain stages of rehabilitation.
Creative Arts Therapy
Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.
Group Therapy
Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.
Individual Therapy
In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
Recreational Therapy
Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.
