About St. Mary’s Medical Center

If you need primary, emergency, or behavioral health care services, you can visit St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia. This medical facility is the largest in the city, and they provide inpatient and outpatient services for all age ranges. Their behavioral health department offers an inpatient program just for adults. You can pay for your services privately or use your commercial insurance plan. They also accept Medicaid and Medicare. If you don’t have insurance, you may qualify for their financial assistance program.

Their inpatient program is meant to be a short term care solution. You’ll only stay there seven days, and then they’ll connect you with other providers inside and outside of their network. While you’re staying on site, you’ll work with a multidisciplinary team of experts including licensed counselors, recreational therapists, social workers, and a psychiatrist. There’s also a dedicated nursing team on staff.

They’ll help stabilize you and address your immediate needs. Their services may include medical detox, individual and group counseling, and medication management.

People who have visited this hospital in the past say that the staff truly cared for them and addressed their needs. Some even say they were treated like family and that while they hope they never have to come back, they’d like to go here if they need similar services in the future.

This place is a joke; their HR department is a joke along with the rest of their other offices.

DO NOT go to the ER if you are in actual pain. They WILL NOT help you. My boyfriend was doubled over in pain and literally shaking. His BP was 170/105 because of the pain (can t fake that). He has a history of kidney stones. They kept us there all night and then told us they knew something was wrong, but they didn t know what it was, but since it wasn t emergent and he didn t need surgery, they couldn t admit him to the hospital, but that we should really follow up with a specialist and figure out what was going on. Then they wrote him a prescription for Toradol, which hadn t helped at all when they gave him a shot of it 8 hours prior. I know Huntington is famous for junkies and drug-seekers, and I guess that s why the doctors there think everyone is just trying to get drugs. But they have really ruined it for everyone. They won t help you.

Accepted Insurance

St. Mary’s Medical Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
When you enter 24-hour clinical care in West Virginia, you gain access to a comprehensive team of professionals who are on-call to help you in your recovery. Nurses and doctors can help you through detox by managing withdrawal using medication and other clinical treatment. For psychological withdrawal and other mental health concerns, counselors are available. This on-site care is designed to meet all physical, mental, and emotional needs.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.

Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

The core philosophies of dialectical behavior therapy in West Virginia are that everything is interconnected, change is inevitable, and you can integrate opposites to reach the truth. Treatment focuses on acceptance and change. You'll learn how emotions and behaviors are connected, accept your feelings, and learn how to change patterns of emotion and behavior.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

No parking anywhere for patients coming for testing or treatment. Good luck finding security to take you where you need to go. Valet is farther than the parking area. You better be healthy to come here or the walk will kill you.

I just spend 4 days on the 3rd floor of St Marys hospital after having a heart ablation.I also have a very rare cancer, I have had to travel to Omaha Nebraska and North Carolina for treatment. I have spent so much time in the hospitals, I have stayed in many.I have always had great care, fantastic nurses. After spending 4 days in St Marys, I have to say they have the BEST nurses, I mean every last nurse was beyond fantastic. That being said, I will also never go back to that hospital. I was put in a room that was so small, it looked to be made for one bed but they put a roommate in with you. It was so tight it was dangerous.I had to drag a IV pole while moving chairs out of the way in front of the bathroom, so I could use it.My roommates bed was so close to mine I couldn't get my IV pole out from between them so I could get up. Had to have the nurse come in and physically move the bed.It was dangerous. I loved my Dr but if I am ever told I need to be put back in that hospital, I will change Drs and go to CAMC.It was sad watching the nurses struggle to work in this mess. I have a feeling this is a place that sees mostly old people (like me) so no one is caring about making the room accessible to them. Several other things happened but I won't go into that. St Marys get A+++++ for their staff but F----- for the safety and accessibility in the rooms. They did tell me they reserve the private rooms for their riskier patients. This hospital needs updated. In this day and age I don't want to share a shower with a stranger. Even with wearing shoes while you shower it's nasty. People pee in the showers and other stuff.

This place is bullshit. I brought my kids to see my grandmother cause she's been in the hospital for 3 weeks and she wanted to see them but they wouldn't let them go up to see her. It's ridiculous. Especially when the person that's being "cared for" is in thier late 70s.

My 81 year old mom was tortured for a week by an egotistical narcissistic dr. Beem in micu. We begged him to stop and he looked me dead in the eyes and said, why would I stop now I'm still trouble shooting her? Like she was a piece of equipment and not a human being. My mom was in pain and the tears running down her face begging me to make it stop! She had no vitals and he still wanted to do one more procedure...well my beautiful momma left us before he could cut her open one more time.

The compassion at St Marys is like ALL hospitals should be. Very through, kind always smiling!! I know I m in good hands. If someone has an issues the need to contact the floor nurse immediately, nurses have their hand so full they need praise and not criticism! Maybe if you pushed the call button ?? Ask for help! They can t read your mind. BRAVO AND THANK YOU ST MARYS!
