It would be dramatic to say that Spirit Mountain Recovery saved my life, BUT they did provide the compass and leadership that lead me along the path to self discovery and healing I so desperately needed to actually begin living life. The staff are almost entirely in recovery themselves or have worked in that field for many years, and most of those in recovery (all but one FT staff member) went through Spirit Mountain. As such, they were not only qualified to light the way but have also lived the journey firsthand and so were able to easily see the pitfalls and challenges that inevitably present themselves and demonstrated daily how to navigate them effectively. All of the activities were ultimately based on learning to live a satisfying life of recovery--living with purpose and joy through connection, willing honesty, and discomfort (where growth happens) without the need for substances to alter what I am truly feeling and thinking in the moment. Being active is an important aspect of the experience at Spirit Mountain, and for me that was hugely beneficial because my additions sucked all of the pleasures of life from me, I no longer desired to do anything but feed the beast. I highly recommend considering Spirit Mountain Recovery if you desire to find out once again, or possibly for the first time, what life can and should be lived like.

Accepted Insurance

Spirit Mountain Recovery | Men’s Addiction Treatment works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
12-step icon12-Step
Participants in 12 step programs engage in rigorous group counseling, peer coaching, and personal development. Though 12 step recovery is rooted in spiritual principles, religious affiliation is not mandatory. The steps model promotes participants' emotional and psychological healing, which is presumed integral to sustained sobriety. Regular attendance at group meetings is expected. These meetings are free, anonymous, peer-led, and accessible day and night in most communities. Gender and age-specific programs and other specialized formats are common.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Medical detox is the safest way to remove addictive substances from your body under the care of medical professionals. In an inpatient environment, you'll be monitored 24/7 by doctors, nurses, and clinical experts, who will help keep you as safe and comfortable as possible and administer medication if needed to treat any withdrawal symptoms. The process may take up to a week or longer depending on your needs, and is often at least partially covered by insurance.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you enter a drug rehab in Utah, the process usually involves four stages: treatment initiation, early abstinence, maintaining abstinence, and advanced recovery. Treatment methods can rely on medications, counseling, or both, in either an outpatient or inpatient setting.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

The foundation of motivational interviewing in Utah rests on four pillars: partnership, evocation, acceptance, and compassion. The therapist collaborates with the client, encouraging them to explore their options and make informed decisions about making changes in their lives.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Couples at any stage of their relationship may benefit from couples therapy in Utah. It is designed to keep relationships on the right path by teaching both partners healthy forms of communication and conflict resolution.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Specialists trained in creative arts therapy can incorporate methods such as art, music, and writing therapy in your treatment program. These expressive methods may be combined with psychodynamic therapy and mindfulness based approaches.

I don t normally write reviews but on this occasion it was necessary. I want to say thank you to all the staff at S.M.R. For helping me with a life long struggle of addiction. I honestly thought I was a lost cause and that my life was set in stone with addiction. I was wrong in that thinking and with the help and guidance of the staff I can now say that my whole outlook on life has changed. They opened up my eyes into seeing what life is really about and how to deal with tough life decision in a healthy way instead of self sabotage. It doesn t just stop after you leave the house either they remain in contact with me and are always willing to talk and help out with whatever you have going on in life. I consider some of them my closest friends to this day and will never forget what they have given me and my family.

It is really hard to put into words what Spirit Mountain Recovery has done for me, and my family. I went to SMR a very broken and hopeless individual with no chance of happiness. It didn't take long to realize that the staff actually cared about me, which was hard to comprehend since I didn't care about myself. Although I had no understanding of the process and treatment they were providing I buckled down, did what was asked and embraced the uncomfortable. The results are amazing. I am the happiest I have ever been and my family is too! Thank you SMR for showing me how to get out of my own way. I am now the husband and father I always wanted to be.

Came here as an immature 18 year old who thought he had the whole world figured out (and been kicked out from my previous treatment facility). Thanks to this amazing place and the staff who went above and beyond for me by making me feel like it was truly my home I was able to learn that I didn t have it all figured out. They showed me the way to a better life and a better me, being here around the other guys and staff made me feel like I had a family wanting me to be the best I could. I can not thank Spirit Mountain Recovery enough for what they instilled in me. I am now on the path to being truly myself in my thoughts and actions, and it s all due to the staff and guys I met here. There is no better place in the world to become the best you, I am eternally grateful to this place.

Our son struggled with addiction for over 12 years. We had tried many different programs, but, Spirit Mountain Recovery made the difference. Spirit brought our son sobriety and brought our family back together. We thought he was lost to us forever before Spirit. The program's focus on outdoor/wilderness experiences, wellness, and self love created our son's path to recovery. My wife and I participated in family group counseling via Zoom imparting to us an understanding of addiction and our role in the recovery journey.Chris, who is the founder of Spirit, was available 24 hours a day seven days a week to speak with us. It's clear that he and his professional team truly care about recovery and those going through it. The limited number of people in recovery at Spirit also creates, a personalized focus that was not there in other mass recovery programs. We visited our son several times during his stay in the program. Utah is a beautiful location across the four seasons. As a family, we now come to Utah every Christmas to ski and rejoice in our son's sobriety.Thank you SMR,Kevin, Kathy and our son DJ
