Half the staff is fantastic and the other half shouldn't be considered human. No sympathy, snarky, disrespectful, no bedside manner. Both my kid and I were in tears just trying to explain the situation and begging for help. When I explained some symptoms the vitals demon was like ewww gross. I've never been so mad and frustrated in my life. Once we got a Dr after 5 hours it was still useless but he explained things and tried to help as best he could (I think) but had a calming seemingly caring manner

If zero was available, I would give a zero. I DO NOT RECOMMEND SOUTHERN NH HOSPITAL FOR EMERGENCIES. We were turned away because the access team member claimed "your son did not meet the necessary criteria for admission at this time". This entire conversation was in a public hallway just outside the waiting room. She never made any claim that a family room was not available for privacy. She just took us to an open area. A blatant violation of our HIPAA rights. There were people walking by freely as we spoke. I was very uncomfortable, but I was also terrified with the situation so talking about it in the moment was important. After a couple of minutes & seeing people walk by, I was very uncomfortable. The access team member that we spoke to in that hallway immediately denied service for him. When I re-explained everything that happened and how I was scared to bring him home and requested him to stay the night, her energy shifted, and she became very cold and said no, he is not staying. I was so confused. Just could not understand how they could deny this particular situation. Out of respect for my son, I will not give details of it.I told her again that I didn't feel safe taking him home and laid out specifically the two things that I was scared of. She again said no and this time slapped her notepad closed. I was so dumbstruck, scared, and now mad, that I had to get up and leave. My husband stayed and talked to her. He said she was rude, and he excused himself politely, even though he said she didn't deserve it.We then took him to Parkland Medical Center in Derry, where they immediately took us in a private room, listened, and said oh no, you're not going home and admitted him.HE NEEDED IMMEDIATE CARE AND SOUTHERN NH HOSPITAL FAILED HIM. THEY ALSO FAILED US BY NOT EVEN ATTEMPTING TO HAVE A PRIVATE CONVERSATION. TOTAL LACK OF COMPASSION FOR ALL OF US. I filed a grievance and got a ridiculous patronizing letter a month later I've now taken it to DHHS.

Accepted Insurance

Southern New Hampshire Medical Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs provide continuing care for clients in an advanced phase of recovery, including those who have completed detox and intensive inpatient treatment. These clients typically have already engaged in many hours of addiction counseling and recovery education. Drug rehab aftercare supports clients in maintaining their sobriety at home, in the workplace, and in the community. Case managers and care teams advise clients on the resources they may need to promote their sustained sobriety.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
When you receive 24-hour clinical care in New Hampshire, you benefit from several advantages. You receive 24/7 medical care and support. You also detox in a setting that keeps you away from access to addictive substances. Additionally, doctors prescribed medications that reduce or eliminate withdrawal symptoms. Medical staff also provide other treatment to improve your physical and mental health.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Treatment provided at drug rehab in New Hampshire prepares individuals to handle life stressors without using substances. Participants get the tools and support they need to maintain lifelong recovery.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Dropped a knife on my bare foot cutting a vein in my foot at 4:00 am on Thursday morning. Blood was squirting out everywhere. I was able to use some trauma bandages I had on hand to stop the bleeding. The blood was squirting out of the vein. I made my way to the emergency room at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center and was immediately seen by a very competent emergency room nurse. She very professionally cleaned the wound without restarting the bleeding. She asked all the right questions to get a quick sense as to my health and looked up my medical records. I was then seen by an emergency room Doctor who also assessed the best course of treatment. Very impressed. I would not have received any better treatment at any of Boston's best hospitals. I was fully bandaged and back home by 7:00 am.
