About Serenity at Summit New England

Serenity at Summit New England is a modern residential treatment and recovery facility for substance use disorders in Haverhill, Massachusetts. They also address dual diagnosis disorders. This is when someone simultaneously struggles with addictive behavior and mental conditions. Their treatment options include medical detox, clinical stabilization or inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization and an intensive outpatient program (IOP).

This expansive facility offers a tranquil setting where you can comfortably and privately begin your recovery journey without distractions. Their location offers convenient access to major highways for residents of Massachusetts and the surrounding areas. They boast spacious, well appointed rooms with options for private accommodations. Residents have access to recreational areas, fitness centers and chef prepared meals. There are also outdoor walking trails, exercise classes and art and crafts. These are useful for recreational therapy which fosters mental awareness and overall wellbeing.

Their interdisciplinary clinical team comprises experts in behavioral health and addiction recovery. This encompasses licensed counselors, therapists, physicians and nurses. These compassionate professionals are committed to helping you overcome addiction through quality and individualized treatment. Depending on your unique condition you may begin your recovery with medical detox after assessment and individualized treatment planning.

Medical detox cleanses addiction-related toxins from your body and lays the foundation for further treatment. It involves a tailored and carefully executed withdrawal procedure with 24/7 supervision by their trained physicians. These experts may employ medication assisted treatment (MAT) when necessary to manage severe withdrawal symptoms and curb cravings. This ensures that your detoxing is safe and comfortable.

Following detox you can continue your recovery journey via their clinical stabilization. This involves intense therapeutic intervention with round the clock support from their dedicated team of professionals. They offer clinically proven therapeutic models like cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and trauma informed care. This may be delivered in group or individual formats to help you address negative emotions fueling your behavioral challenges. Emphasis is on developing sound coping mechanisms, preventing relapse and staying sober.

You’ll learn essential life skills like anger/stress management, effective communication and relationship building which facilitate lasting sobriety. You’ll also participate in whole person activities like yoga, meditation and nutritional counseling as well as alternative therapy like acupuncture and reiki. These wellness programs help you develop healthy habits and address the physical, spiritual and emotional aspects of addiction. Their dual diagnosis treatment also includes medication management and dialectical behavior therapy which fosters emotional regulation.

Upon graduating from inpatient care you can step down to either their intensive outpatient program or partial hospitalization program (PHP). Both programs offer ongoing support while allowing you to maintain daily responsibilities. Their intensive therapy involves up to nine hours of group sessions weekly. Sessions are designed to accommodate your work or academic schedule. This makes it ideal if you seek flexibility and convenience.

Partial hospitalization is more structured and involves more intensive care. You’ll attend up to 20 hours of therapy sessions weekly. This is great if you need more support or therapeutic interventions but not 24/7 supervision. You’ll receive treatment in the day and return home in the evening. Both programs involve continued therapeutic progress in group and individual formats as well as peer support. They also include family education and therapy to improve communication with loved ones and strengthen support systems. Comments from past clients reflect an overwhelmingly positive experience and incredible quality of care.

Medical briefcase icon Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient programs are designed for clients who are medically stable and not at an elevated risk of relapse, including those who have already completed inpatient care. Outpatient programs typically advance clients' established treatment plans, offering continuing addiction counseling and recovery education. Clients who enter outpatient care immediately following detox may also receive medical and mental health assessments and personalized treatment plans. Most outpatient rehabs provide multiple levels of care to align with clients' unique needs.

inpatient iconInpatient Rehab

Inpatient rehab offers robust, hands-on care in a highly structured and supportive environment. The facility provides housing, meals, and round-the-clock supervision, allowing clients to focus exclusively on their recovery. Inpatient treatment typically involves intensive addiction counseling based on CBT, DBT, RBT, motivational interviewing, or other psychotherapeutic approaches. Many inpatient treatment centers also offer life skills training and/or complementary therapies, including meditation, mindfulness, and nutrition counseling.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) facilitate clients' sustained sobriety through high-level care aligned with their evolving needs. Clients engage in multiple treatment sessions per week, typically receiving between nine and 20 hours of outpatient care weekly. The frequency and intensity of treatment gradually decreases as clients stabilize. Many intensive outpatient rehabs offer a variety of services, including addiction counseling, recovery-focused life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT). Evidence-based complementary therapies are also common.

aftercare iconAftercare

Rehab aftercare programs offer customized, wraparound support for clients in the maintenance phase of recovery. Many clients enroll in drug rehab immediately after completing intensive inpatient or residential care. Services encompass outpatient treatment but often extend long beyond the completion of a formal recovery program and typically include a variety of medical, mental health, and social service programs. Peer coaching, relapse prevention, 12 step program induction, and related services are commonly available.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Shield icon Insurance

Our Policy: Serenity at Summit New England works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact us to verify your specific insurance provider.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Addiction is a highly complex problem, and drug rehab in Massachusetts is often necessary to address it. These programs treat physical, mental, and relational issues that are involved. Treatment empowers individuals to manage these issues without the use of drugs.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Couples therapy in Massachusetts is a short term therapy designed to equip you both with the skills you need to address conflicts and challenges in your relationship. During sessions, your counselor may meet with you individually and together.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

family iconFamily Therapy

Their program includes a fluid daily schedule, individualized for each of their clients. A personal schedule is planned to integrate overall wellness, with a focus on recovery. Mornings often begin with mindful meditation sessions, check-ins and psycho-educational groups that focus on key areas of recovery and wellness. Afternoons offer individualized counseling sessions, integrative movement, and group sessions. In the evenings, 12-step meetings and a variety of holistic services are offered. Clients will work with their treatment team in planning for their day.

life-skills iconLife Skills

The life skills you'll learn in rehab range from financial management to practicing healthy self care. They help you learn how to solve problems and make decisions, as well as develop healthy interpersonal relationships – all of which are key to successful recovery.

Be careful with this place! They are scammers, they promised me that their program included yoga, meditation, massage, acupuncture, individual counseling and it was not true, acupuncture is once a week and you must pay an additional fee, individual counseling is twice a week ... Read More

Serenity used to be a great treatment center that valued quality recovery and had strong ties to the community. However, with each empty suit that has had their hands on the Serenity name, it depreciates further. The awards in the lobby don't belong to a single person that currently works there. Well, if anyone even still works there. Word in the recovery community is that dozens of people have had their livelihoods pulled out from under them without warning last week. That's probably why they bulked up those 5 star reviews. The presumably-AI-composed website gives a better description of what to do in Boston on a nice day than what their treatment includes. No idea who an owner or CEO is.I am in recovery, and inpatient treatment saved my life. Serenity as it is now couldn't do that. Now some other tranquil-worded player, Harmony, is involved. The facility is going the way of their infamous hospital next door neighbor. As of 2024. They run with bare minimum staff, bare minimum supplies [including medications], and any issue or question will be passed on to the next staff memeber. Then days later when you're annoyed about it, it's a "behavioral issue".Nutritional needs are not addressed. In fact, the response to watching snack options dwindle was to put in a vending machine. All of these changes can easily be overheard by any given staff member.I get it, the facility is *nice* compared to many of the options of even a decade ago. I remember trying to use a calling card on a payphone at one. There's Roku and YouTube- but there's no soul.Commitments might show up... or they might not. There might be group at 10a. Or there might not.You might be checked on for safety. Or staff might be in the cafeteria. It's unfortunate.Do not fall for admissions games. They are salespeople only, located who knows where. They will say you are safe for treatment, or promise transportation when "completed". Ask what completed means. The mission got lost somewhere. Inpatient treatment is, in my opinion, absolutely necessary to detox. But I wouldn't bank on finding recovery here. The most recent version of Serenity (which IMO they certainly shouldn't be able to keep the name- it's misleading of a time when it was respected), will make you feel the same way healthcare always makes addicts/alcoholics feel: not worth the investment.

As a prior staff member and a person in recovery myself I have A LOT to say about this recovery center but I ll keep it short. This place has gone down hill over the past year and it seems to be coming from the top. Private pay clients can do practically anything they want to without any real boundaries or consequences just because serenity seems to put money > the care and safety of others. Just recently they had a massive lay off of staff which has caused chaos not only for the staff that were let go without warning (myself included) but the staff they kept. They barely held together before but now it s the Wild West. Barely enough techs to call it legal, case management have multiple roles now that the after care coordinator is gone. Supervisor is a driver and alumni? 2/3 therapists were let go along with most of the nursing. The staff being let down is one thing but it s disgusting to let down the clients who are struggling trying to find solace when none of their needs can be met and feel like a number instead of a human being. If you re looking for treatment and have the $ or the insurance to help get you there, please do yourself a favor and seek out another facility. If you re looking for a job here or the new mental health facility I advise you to fill out a different job application. Although some staff are amazing and put their heart and soul into the work they do, serenities owners and upper management have failed them and it s absolutely volatile to think about.Side note: most of those reviews are from higher ups family members or people who haven t even been there, don t be fooled.

Serenity at Summit is definitely top of list for anyone considering residential treatment for addiction. The staff there have a great track record of welcoming people through the door, and then helping them so that when they leave, they are ready to walk positively through another door of their recovery journey. The team uses evidence based practice to safely guide clients through the detox experience and then openly shares tools in group and individual sessions that will help with ongoing sobriety. Safety and positive vibes in a comfortable setting are their hallmark. Thumbs up!

Serenity is a stellar treatment center. The staff go above and beyond they are so caring and kind, and they truly care about each person s recovery. They recognize how difficult it can be to walk through the front door, and do everything in their power to support you. From the moment I arrived, I felt anxious but everyone assured me and was patient with me and ensured that I understood the entire admission process.Their kindness and compassion goes a long way, and I m grateful for the entire team who worked extensively with me. They even helped me organize what happens after detox and helped make a plan to ensure my continued success so I don t just go home and relapse. The rooms are comfortable and clean, and the food is cooked fresh each day. I enjoyed being in the outdoor space too.Overall, I would highly recommend Serenity as a treatment center for anyone struggling to get clean. Serenity taught me to slow down, and they equipped me with the beginning tools I need to be successful in my recovery.

I had gone to treatment a countless number of times only to end up back in the same helpless hopeless state of mind again and again. Alone and defeated in my own personal purgatory, one that had become a revolving door, I found myself broken and defeated. I m so grateful serenity was my last stop in the carousel of addiction. It wasn t only the caring staff that tended to my sensitive shell, or the warm food that nourished my starving body, but the overwhelming transformation that began here- The ability to trust the clinicians made me feel a freedom no other facility could give me. They gave me the chance to believe again. To believe in the good in people and to begin to recognize it within myself. I cannot speak highly enough about the quality of people that operate this program. The opposite of addiction is connection, and connecting to myself again was the first step. Sobering up only lets you begin the process of rebuilding the foundation to live life again. The guidance, direction and support I found here- from the smiling faces to the hard truths; a whirlwind of change I NEEDED, is only comparable to a miracle. I am unworldly grateful to serenity for giving me the opportunity to save my life. If you are done, give yourself a chance to begin again. Here.
