We had the most wonderful experience at Elliot in labor and delivery, maternity, and NICU when we delivered our first baby on 8.7. During labor, nurses and doctors were attentive, knowledgeable, and kind. They treated you as if you and your family were the only patients in the hospital, being totally locked in and versed on your child in every conversation. Even the most mundane or niche questions, they had answers for, and if they didn t know how to answer them, they immediately sought advice from co workers, who are constantly communicating via text and call seamlessly. They drop everything they re doing to reassure you, and really listen to your concerns. It didn t matter how many questions or requests we had, or how many times we pressed the call button- they were always bubbly, kind, and more than happy to meet you where you were. It was my first time laboring and I was in a lot of pain. The team came together with a plan to effectively manage my pain and help me deliver safely without the need for a c section despite my large baby s size. They stayed with me and talked me through every step. Toward the end I was very emotional and doubting my abilities, but their encouraging words helped me push through. Due to some possible complications, NICU was in the room with us before she arrived, and were able to immediately assess her. They noticed the possibility of sepsis and took action immediately, getting the antibiotics and testing she needed. Listening to others stories about this complication, it is overwhelmingly common for hospitals to brush off symptoms and send children home, which can be fatal. Elliot analyzed her symptoms and came up with a comprehensive plan for her within minutes and she immediately began to turn a corner. They even allow parents at staff huddles. At any given time, the nurse on shift knew every detail about our daughter s progress and could answer all of our questions. They were able to use donor milk to help supplement her supply. While we waited for her to come home and we were still admitted in the maternity ward, several people came to check on us and offer support and referrals that continued at home as well, such as check ins from a home nurse and a lactation consultant in the home. I was also able to get a referral for a therapist specializing in PPD. Because of Elliot s staff, my daughter is now home with us and free of complications, sleeping soundly and perfectly healthy. If I had birthed at home or gone to a different hospital, we could have had an extremely different or even tragic outcome. The care they take is second to none. We will always be thankful to the earth angels at Elliot L&D.
