About Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center

Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center is a behavioral health treatment clinic in Indianapolis. They provide comprehensive outpatient mental health programs, addiction services, and dual diagnosis treatment.

The outpatient addiction and mental health-related services at Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center serve adults over the age of 18. The program involves clinical assessments and comprehensive treatment planning, co-occurring disorders treatment, outpatient detox, counseling, narcotics treatment, family recovery, smoking cessation, perinatal addiction care and treatment, and gambling support.

Individuals with acute substance use disorders may have a physical dependency on the substance and experience withdrawal symptoms when stopping using the substance. Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center has a detox program to help alleviate sometimes uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms using FDA approved medications. Detox is offered for alcohol, benzodiazepines, and opioids. Along with managing withdrawal symptoms, clients benefit from recovery education classes and peer support programs. Same day services are available.

The outpatient program at Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center is for individuals over the age of 18. The fully integrated dual-diagnosis program treats addiction and/or other co-occurring conditions using evidence based practices. The program includes a clinical assessment, individualized treatment planning, individual and group therapy, relapse prevention techniques, skill building, coping skills, group therapy, and case management. Psychiatric services are provided by addiction psychiatrists who work with the treatment team and support patients with medication to promote overall well being. Sessions are held several days per week, depending upon the individual’s circumstances.

The Narcotics Treatment Program is for adults over the age of 18 with opioid use disorder. The comprehensive addiction treatment program includes the use of medication in combination with counseling and support groups in an outpatient setting. As clients progress and stabilize, in-person office appointments tend to become less frequent.

The family centered approach at Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center also supports pregnant people with substance use disorders. Treatment may begin during pregnancy and postpartum or commence in the postpartum stage. The goal is to provide comprehensive prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care, in combination with FDA approved medications and counseling, to achieve and sustain long term recovery.

Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center accepts Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, commercial insurance plans, Healthy Indiana, and self pay.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Persons who require high-level support but who do not wish to leave their homes or communities may enroll in an intensive outpatient program (IOP). Clients typically commit to a minimum of nine treatment hours across three therapeutic sessions per week, but many programs offer up to 20 hours of care weekly. Most intensive outpatient rehabs provide a combination of psychotherapy, recovery education, and holistic care. Medication assisted treatment (MAT) is widely available for those in alcohol or opioid recovery.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

When families plan a drug intervention in Indiana, the goal is to create self-awareness in their loved one, so they acknowledge the need for treatment and get help. A professional interventionist can work with the individual's family members to organize this intervention and provide direction for follow-up. During the intervention, loved ones share how the individual's substance abuse has affected them, and the interventionist adds a clinical perspective on how treatment can help the situation.

This was an excellent pediatric clinic for mental health until a nursing staff change last fall 2023. Never as a parent have I felt more judged, unheard, or not listened to by a nurse. When needing a medication adjustment for a prescription my child had not started yet, I was hung up on twice while trying to communicate to the doctor. As well multiple times the nurse told me she would call right back. But didn t follow through. The pediatrician psychiatrist left last winter without any notice to patients. We couldn t get my sons medication for ADHD for school. It greatly impacted our lives in a very negative way when asking for supplemental emergent care for group therapy. The therapists and social workers are excellent so the behavioral health team is good, very empathetic with children and families. The nursing staff not so much, which is critical for medication therapy.

Was referred by my new doctor to here to get second opinion about getting my meds, 4 appointments and 3 weeks later they tell me they can't do anything but prescribe me a drug that doesnt work for me. Thank you guys so much for wasting my time giving me the runaround.

Originally I really loved this place. The front desk staff are always very friendly, the lady I saw for my initial intake was great, and the two therapist I ended up seeing for a few months were honestly the only therapist I've ever felt like listened and cared. Now to the iffy and bad stuff. The woman psychologist is pretty stand offish, doesn't particularly listen to you, lives in a land of privliage and delusion ignoring that most of the clientele here is going to be on the poorer side. She gives medical advice outside of her means and practice. She also words things in her notes that frankly I find offensive and disgusting. I was put down for alcohol and substance abuse which I do not have. To make matters worse after they made policy changes I was put in touch with a case manager. Who flat out said you are on medicaid and we don't get paid enough for you.

Social workers masquerading as therapists and peddler psychiatrists literally grading patients on "religiosity", this dual diagnosis clinic formally known as Wishard Midtown consists of spiritual pseudoscience and religious based 12-step program philosophy and culture. Complete with daily prayer as part of their program and homophobic to the point of attempting to convert LGBTQ+ people. It took years to scratch the surface of CBT and they never got into DBT, only mentioned in passing because they have no staff that's truly knowledgeable in these areas. Doctors will cut you abruptly off your medicine if they don't like who you are a person or accept their advances. State sponsored victimization at its finest!

You guys have been a very important part of my recovery and I must say my experience from the psychiatrist to the therapist and the group facilitator are all wonderful at what they do and I want to move to another state but I don't think I will find the level of care and professionalism I've received at midtown.
