About Retreat at Lancaster County – Outpatient

Retreat Behavioral Health – Lancaster County specializes in mental health and substance use disorder rehabilitation for patients who need a flexible treatment model that provides comprehensive counseling and clinical services in Ephrata, Pennsylvania.

Retreat Behavioral Health – Lancaster County offers inpatient, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and generalized outpatient programming.

The Inpatient Treatment Program at Retreat Behavioral Health – Lancaster County is for individuals who need to have access to 24 hour supervision during the initial phases of their recovery. As their physical and mental health stabilizes, they will begin to participate in therapeutic treatments that are designed to treat addiction. Medication management, individual treatment planning, holistic therapy, family engagement, and mental health services are provided by Retreat Behavioral Health.

Partial Hospitalization is a day treatment program that is highly structured yet allows for the flexibility of returning home in the evening. This program requires that there is no immediate danger that would require inpatient hospitalization. It incorporates clinical treatment practices for addiction, such as medications, individual and group therapy, and trauma-related counseling. Evidence based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing are incorporated into the treatment process.

Intensive Outpatient is a step down from partial hospitalization and is for those who have made enough progress to decrease their hours in treatment each week. Counseling groups are held every day, with additional free specialty groups held at specific times throughout the week to cater to a wide variety of topics. Psychotherapy and psychiatry sessions are also provided.

Outpatient treatment is a step down from intensive outpatient based on the reduction of hours spent each week in treatment. Many of the same options for therapy, group therapy, and treatment groups remain intact, while more time is spent on the personal commitments of normal living such as work, home life, and recreational activities.

Accepted Insurance

Retreat at Lancaster County – Outpatient works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Pennsylvania is devoted to the treatment of addiction. Levels of care, treatment methods, and settings differ, but the aim of each program is to end drug dependency and empower participants to achieve long-term recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.

Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I am so incredibly frustrated with this place and how my treatment and finances were handled. I did virtual IOP. It was ok, but I didn t really get much out of my sessions despite my efforts of participating and having the mindset of wanting to get better. For the cost, I don t think it was really worth it.I did not think the psychiatrist I saw listened to me. I was dealing with certain issues that I brought up and I thought that they were overlooked. I was given medication that did absolutely nothing for my mental state and the psychiatrist kept assuming that I was doing better, despite me telling them that I wasn t feeling any better. The psychiatrist would also go on personal tangents about their hobbies, interests, and showing me photos from vacations which was extremely unproductive. I understand wanting to have a personal connection with clients, but it gets to a point where it s unprofessional. The real kicker out of my whole experience is the financial part. The bill in my portal was significantly more than the bill that I received in the mail. I have been trying to resolve this issue, with multiple emails and phone calls with absolutely no help. Tony in finance is repeatedly telling me that my portal amount is correct when it is NOT. And the issue is still not resolved. I have reached out to supervisors and employees who have said that they would have the head of finance reach out to me, and no one has. This whole experience was extremely frustrating and I suggest you seek treatment elsewhere.

Completing inpatient on the hill was a great experience. However, being at the outpatient building has been the best experience for me this far in my recovery. The staff is welcoming, understanding, and professional at all times. I have been attending regular groups since September, 2021. My groups consisted of ways to cope with my Mental Health and Addiction struggles. The outpatient Supervisior, Erin L. assisted me in helping a family member into treatment. Her compassion to help others Is top priority. Her leadership with staff and clients are among the best. She is an authentic version of Servant Leadership. The staff is organized and professional at all times. The therapists care Care for their clients. Every time I have interacted with the staff has been pleasant. They are easy to talk to about anything. They will assist you with anything you need. From the front desk to transportation they all should be recognized for their dedication.

Retreat Outpatient is a wonderful facility. The guidance that has been provided throughout my time participating in both D&A and MH OP treatment has given me the ability to make changes that other wise would not have been possible. Their staff, from counselors, front desk, to billing have been immensely helpful from beginning to end. Retreat staff provide a safe and supportive environment for those to heal. I would highly recommend.

I only have great things to share regarding Retreat Outpatient! After working in a group setting and individually with a therapist, my mental health/sobriety has never been better. Meeting with a therapist that is hands-on was what I needed in order to be successful, and Retreat was able to provide that to me. I would highly recommend this treatment facility (both inpatient and outpatient) to any individual struggling, they really have changed my life for the better! :)

A miracle happened today; after trying all day to get my fiance some help we got some from the awesome and helpful staffWhen we pulled we were at ease because the facility is beautiful and clean and spacious. While she was waiting for intake they brought her food which looked good and a few of female patients introduced themselves.Over all I felt good leaving here there confident she would be comfortable and taken good care of.
