About PsyCare – Howland Clinic

PsyCare provides behavioral health care and counseling services for children, teens and adults. They operate six outpatient offices throughout Northeastern Ohio, including their Howland Clinic in Warren. At all locations, they offer counseling services to help you overcome a range of different issues, including chemical dependency. You can attend your counseling sessions in person or online. They accept private insurance, self pay, Medicare and Medicaid.

Their treatment plans are age specific and they design them around their clients’ unique needs. You can attend one on one, group, and family counseling sessions, which give you the chance to talk about your addiction, identify your triggers, and learn healthy life skills. If you have children, you can also attend parenting classes that teach you how to care for your little ones as you recover.

In addition to cognitive behavioral therapy, they also incorporate other evidence based methods into their treatments. This includes eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, which is sometimes called EMDR. If you need psychiatric care, medication monitoring, or relaxation and hypnosis treatment, they can accommodate you.

While some former and current clients speak highly of their counselors here, this doesn’t seem to be the case across the board. Many clients have expressed difficulties with team communication and scheduling.

***BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY AND READ THE REVIEW***1) UnEthical Business Practices2) Fraudlant Impressions3) Unprofessional Staff4) Under Investigation by the State of Ohio and Insurance CompaniesHave I caught your attention yet???Yes I would be aware of this company because they like to "BAIT AND SWITCH" you into using their serivces by telling you they are "in network" and the services you "request" are covered. Most of the time this company IS NOT IN NETWORK and MOSTLY ALL THEIR SERVICES ARE NOT COVERED by insurance companies. This isnt a negative review it is a WAKEUP CALL & BE AWARE of what they do. Currently theyhave pending investigations by the state for unethical & predatory business practices and they are also under investigation by multiple insurance companies for the same thing.... I wouldnt recommend on using them and they need to be shutdown for this. Click like if you found this review helpful..

After going into their office picking up the packet of paperwork bringing it home filling it out for both my daughter and I, then dropping the packet back off in their office and being scheduled with appointments they called back a couple days later and said they don't accept our insurance (we have 2 insurances, our primary they take our secondary they also take from other patients) and canceled our appointments. I told them I have been looking for counseling for my daughter for over a year and really need to get her in to talk to somebody and they said sorry there's nothing we can do and hung up. They didn't even bother to offer referrals to other locations or counselors or offer any kind of help I absolutely felt like they did not care at all about us. I would avoid this place at all cost!!!

Location

Accepted Insurance

PsyCare – Howland Clinic works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Accreditations

State Licenses are permits issued by government agencies that allow rehab organizations to conduct business legally within a certain geographical area. Typically, the kind of program a rehab facility offers, along with its physical location, determines which licenses are required to operate legally.

State License: Ohio

The Joint Commission, formerly known as JCAHO, is a nonprofit organization that accredits rehab organizations and programs. Founded in 1951, the Joint Commision's mission is to improve the quality of patient care and demonstrating the quality of patient care.

Joint Commission Accreditation: Yes

I was a client almost ten years ago, so I ve had some space from the emotional impact of my experience here. I am still working through the internalized homophobia that was never addressed by any of the counselors here, which was especially further suppressed by a therapist whose name I believe was Sandy Stanko. She asked me if my attraction to women was because I didn t have enough attention from men. She also told me that I would go to a bad place if I killed myself. Only giving a second star for the person who got me a different therapist, who was much better, but unfortunately, by then I was too scared to address my queer attractions.

My daughter is a Pt here. The receptionist is always rude when she calls. She was put on medications for the first time and they refused to give her a refill tell she spoke with the doctor. So she made an appointment only for the doctor to never attend the tel.e.health appointment. No cancellation, nothing. When my daughter called them about this they scheduled her for two more weeks out! Meanwhile my daughter has been off her medication for a month! If they were really concerned about their Pts mental health they would know that it is not safe for them to be inconsistent with their medications! We will be looking for a better provider else where.

Terrible communication skills between the therapist/ doctors and the front desk girls. If they don t send you a link for your appointment and you miss it, it s your fault. the front desk ladies are rude and don t care about anything. I had to fill paperwork out for court one time so I went there for it and I had my newborn baby in the car, the girl comes outside and I tell her she has to come to the car because I have my newborn in the car and she starts yelling at me and cussing because she had to come to my car to hand me the paperwork. do NOT recommend this place at all. went here for 2 years and finally left because this place is trash. do better. I d give 0 stars if I could.
