About Oceanfront Recovery

Oceanfront Recovery is a small boutique treatment center in downtown Laguna Beach, California. They welcome adult men and women seeking addiction, mental health and co-occurring disorder care. With medical detox, residential treatment and outpatient programs, you’ll benefit from a serene environment to hone in on your recovery goals.

Their programs combine innovative treatment best practices, experiential therapies and group and individual sessions. They focus on recovery from a whole person standpoint. That said, you can access personalized care that fits your needs and helps you explore new sides of yourself.

What stands out most to me is their location. Located just two blocks from the Pacific Ocean, you’re met with stunning blue waters each morning. The relaxed, laidback vibe can be beneficial for peace, growth and recovery. You can participate in therapeutic outdoor activities, including surfing, hiking and beach trips. You’ll also be in the heart of a thriving recovery community with countless peer support meetings and people on similar walks.

Another incredible feature is their treatment approach. They strive to provide a balance between proven interventions and experiential therapies. You’ll dive deep into the underlying causes of addiction while exploring ways to replace old habits with new, healthy hobbies. Along with helping you reach recovery, they help you learn to enjoy life sober.

They also offer outpatient services for executives and business professionals. That way, you can get the help you need without stepping away from work. This specialized program provides similar approaches to their residential program but you can attend while living at home.

Accepted Insurance

Oceanfront Recovery works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Clients receiving treatment at an outpatient rehab typically do not require hospitalization or intensive supervision and support. Outpatient addiction counseling and recovery education are often offered during the morning, evening, night, and weekend, allowing clients to tailor treatment to their own schedule. Partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs are the most time-intensive and are designed for clients who are at an increased relapse risk and/or who need more robust therapeutic support.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs offer clients in addiction recovery a robust continuum of care after clients have completed active treatment. These services address recovery as a life-long process and are designed to evolve with clients' changing needs. Clients may partner with their case managers and/or addiction recovery team to identify the rehab aftercare services that are right for them. They may receive career counseling, housing assistance, peer coaching, 12 step program induction, among many other services.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober living houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle. Ocean Recovery offers a strong transitional program for all their clients who have completed the residential treatment.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
Commonly known as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is an intensive form of outpatient treatment where clients meet during the day and return home in the evening. PHP treatment doesn't require 24-hour care and often serves as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or a step-down after a residential program. With PHP treatment, you can receive daily support for 6 to 8 hours which includes evidence-based therapies and medication management. The cost of PHP treatment typically varies but averages 90 days.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

I would recommend Oceanfront Recovery to anyone struggling with substance abuse issues. The staff/team really care about you on an individual level. The houses are very nice and I really enjoyed the various outings&activities we were able to do. It was great to get to go to different types of 12-step based meetings around the area. I also really appreciated the team making sure I had a safe exit plan to support my long term recovery and sobriety. A few things could definitely be improved. First, the food situation. All of the rehabs I ve been to aside from this one had a chef that would cook at least 2 of the meals everyday, sometimes 3. At this one, we just got 2 catered meals a day Monday through Saturday. Detox had plenty of snacks and other groceries for us, but once you got to the residential house, snacks had to be purchased with my own money and the clients had to decide on a meal for Sunday dinner and buy the groceries for that ourselves. The next is a bit of a bigger issue. I was extremely fortunate to go here on a scholarship. My partner attended at the same time through his insurance. About 15 days into our stay, we were both separately informed that we were being discharged in 2 days, even though we were told we would be able to stay 30 days. It was just weird that he was told his insurance wouldn t cover anymore time and at the same time my scholarship was over. We lucked out in being able to stay another 7 days until the sober living we had found had a bed open for me. But my partner was still testing dirty, because in some cases, although not super common, a certain substance that is usually out of urine in 3-4 days, can stay in your urine for 4 weeks. The facility should have kept him until he was able to give a clean test, and this caused him to almost get kicked out of sober living. This was a big oversight on their part and hopefully doesn t happen again to anyone else. But overall it was a positive experience and helped me get off to a strong start in my journey with recovery. Thank you Oceanfront Recovery!

This place was amazing. Great balance of group therapy and individual sessions. Ocean Front has a staff that truly cares and puts the clients needs above all. When their clients complete their residential treatment, they make sure that they have a plan of action to continue care if needed. Never felt isolated. Medical staff, administrative staff, and most importantly, the techs interacted with clients and treated us with respect and patience. Strongly recommend this beautiful place. Do the work and this establishment will stand next to you on your new journey to a better life.

This place has been nothing but a blessing. They took my girlfriend and I and we re not against us finding our way as individuals but also as a couple. The staff was excellent and went above and beyond to make sure my needs were met on the daily. The detox process was rough but staff made me as comfortable as possible. If I were to make a suggestion it would be to reach out to Oceanfront and find you re path.

I have been to many, many treatment centers in So Cal and Oceqnfront is by far the best. From admit, medical, therapist, case management, groups and discharge, I was treated with respect and compassion in all regards. It is much smaller than most facilities and I felt I received much more individual care than other places. The setting is amazing and staff is awesome. Straight up, no treatment center is perfect, but Oceanfront exceeded all my expectations and gave me the best opportunity to succeed in my recovery. You may not always get what you want, but u will always get what u need!! I highly recommend Oceqnfront if u want to get clean and sober. It s a fantastic place to start.

Ocean Front Recovery in Laguna is by far one of the best rehab / treatment centers in OC! So glad I found this place. Staff & program are exceptional. Many one on one's with case manager, doctor, therapists & technicians for med management. Nice detox & residential houses near top of the world location in Laguna with beautiful ocean & mountain views with catered lunch and dinner. Daily AA meetings, 3 small group meetings per day, gym twice a week, grocery shopping on Friday's, fun outings on the weekends like beach, miniature golf, bowling, hikes etc. This place really helped me get back on track and gave me the tools & on going plan to battle my addiction / alcoholism after 30 day treatment was completed & returned home. I HIGHLY recommend Ocean Front If you are looking for help & are truly trying to find sobriety! I personally want to thank Cody, Ernesto, Matt, Wyatt, Nate, Dr. Noah, Harley, Cherie, David, Madeline, Jeannette, Bryan, Will & Christian for all their support along the way!!! I believe that ocean front totally changed the direction of my life in a positive way. In short, I give this facility/program my highest reccomendation as they are equipped with skilled specialists, empathetic staff, and houses in the most beautiful and healing location (Laguna beach CA).My time at Ocean Front Recovery started with me being strung out and exhausted in the intake room with the head nurse, Sherry. Her and the other staff treated me with such empathy as they performed my intake. I have a lot of meds (more than any other client, I was told) and all the staff were extremely patient with me. They led me to a room that looked like a 5 star hotel with thick white bedding on full sized beds.I have specific dietary restrictions due to crohns disease and I was able to call the caterer and get a specific diet sent to the house. This was such a life saver not having to be burdened with cooking or worrying about if I would ingest an allergen or trigger food.Even if you were able to get these things at another detox, ocean front also has:-an amazing ocean view at both their detox house and the residential house. Seeing the ocean every morning and every sunset and seeing Catalina fotrom the house was healing. You also do yoga class with a great instructor with this view-sometimes cats around the neighborhood will visit -Certain staff went above and beyond to talk to me when I was really going through it-Great outings: they hire an independent contractor (Nate) and he does things like paddle boarding, surfing, pickle ball, hikes, or in inclement weather bowling or visiting the Buddhist temple in Santiago Canyon.-If you happen to have any issue with another client, you can bring it up discreetly to staff and it will get handled. With any small things I practiced communicating with the client directly but I knew I had a person to go to that would be fair if it escalated-At this time it is Co Ed and there are only male therapists but this very well could have changed. Ernesto is a great choice as a therapist regardless of genderSpecial shout out to Cody, the Case Manager. Very kind, patient, personable, fair, and understanding. I had some good talks with him that helped me immensely. They take you to meetings Tues-Sat and clients vote democratically on morning meetings or evening. You can also ask staff to go on walks to top of the world, target, downtown LB, beach, etc and they'll usually take you if logistics allow.Finances: I had a $200 copay and was not asked to pay anything more after I leftOcean front allows phones. This is useful if you need to stay in constant contact with a family member or etc. If you need a break from your phone and can't control yourself (like me) I highly recommend asking staff to store it away in a locker for you. It will be waiting for you when you're ready to return to it.All in all I highly recommend this detox.Photos are a combo of detox house, residential house and outings
