About NorthStar Regional – Sugar Creek

For people residing in Chaska, Minnesota, and who are seeking addiction treatment at the outpatient level, they might look no further than North Star Regional’s Sugar Creek location. This clinic offers some fundamental services for anyone with drug or alcohol addictions who are seeking recovery. They offer an intensive outpatient program (IOP) that will certainly demand a lot of your attention, but at least you’ll still be able to return home after each session.

To my knowledge, it doesn’t seem that their main Sugar Loaf site offers any inpatient care on its own, but they also have a lodge for men just down the street that does offer some lodging options.

This clinic also provides dual diagnosis care, which means anyone with co-occurring mental health conditions can find help for that here, too. These mental health conditions can include anxiety or depression to bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. It basically just means a mental health condition that may be attributing to your negative habits and your addiction.

They offer some holistic treatment options for these individuals and their intensive outpatient program offers services in the mornings and evenings. Exercise and meditation, like yoga and cardio workouts, can get your mind and body back into shape. You’ll feel healthier and more alert without the use of drugs.

The counseling services at this treatment center include individual therapy and group therapy. Individual therapy lets you meet one-on-one with a professional therapist who will listen to your history and help navigate your path in order to help you identify triggers, learn coping skills, and settle any trauma from your past.

Group therapy, on the other hand, will help you meet new friends who can relate to your situation and help keep you accountable on your journey through sobriety.

Tanya is the worst employee / counselor ever. Sends my girlfriend to a halfway house where with out me she will have zero chance of staying sober. Way to go NorthStar! Nice lies you tell also just to not cause concern. Lies lies lies! NorthStar Regionals ONLY area of expertise is in lying to their patients and patients loved ones. They are really good at ripping up good healthy relationships. Tanya is very rude and unprofessional. Tanya will judge you immediately and base clients recovery on her horrible bias misplaced judgements. STAY AWAY FROM TANYA AND THIS PLACE ALL TOGETHER. ANY OTHER RECOVERY CENTER OTHER THAN NORTHSTAR AND YOU SHOULD BE GOOD. NOT HERE. MAYBE IF TANYA IS FIRED THE PLACE HAS A CHANCE

Avoid any Northstar facility if you care about your health. They do significantly more harm than good.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
When individuals first enter rehab, they may be malnourished due to substance use. They may also suffer from illness, organ damage, or other medical issues. 24-hour clinical care in Minnesota provides on-call staff who can monitor these conditions and provide appropriate treatment 24/7. This setting helps individuals who need substance use disorder treatment get the physical as well as psychological support they need.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug addiction is defined as an inability to stop using drugs even though it causes negative consequences in your life. Drug rehab in Minnesota provides treatment for drug addiction in a variety of settings including inpatient treatment and outpatient treatment.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.

Clinical Services

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Couples therapy in Minnesota can help you understand yourself and your partner better and identify the issues causing stress in the relationship. From finances to addiction to children, you'll learn skills to deal with various stressors and strengthen your relationship.

Recreational therapy supports addiction recovery by giving you enjoyable activities that improve your overall well being. Treatment centers may include team sports, arts and crafts, or outdoor activities to help reduce your cravings, alleviate stress, and build a supportive community network that helps maintain long term sobriety.

Feeling let down and disappointed. Counselors could be a little more personal on there 1 on 1 s. When your trying to fight for your life think carefully. I choose Northstar Regional- Sugar Creek because I heard it was a great place. John the director was awesome. The director now Neil, does not represent the community which should be his first priority. I was discharged for for some friendly horseplay and being late to a couple group s. What a joke. I m 35 years old and have 2 kids. If your trying to save your life and you want long term recovery don t go here.

It appears that NorthStar Regional hasn t had an actual-factual review for the suffering addict to use as a guide to decide if it s the right fit for their needs._______________________________________***Lodging Services***This review considers NorthStar Regional s Intensive Out-Patient w/Lodging program. This is a 6 month program with 3 phases. If you choose to live on site, it will be in one of three buildings- Mansion Bank Barn Most likely you ll have a roommate. The restroom facilities are in a single location for each building. The showers are quite nice and things are kept pretty dang clean. You are expected to do your assigned chores- it s your home. The lounge areas are awesome with big TVs, a fireplace and comfortable couches/chairs. You ll have refrigerator space and cabinet space for your personal food items.Speaking of food- this place is way above average when it comes to dining.Large portions and small salad bar for each meal with cereal/bread/ and other condiments available 95% of the time. The only bummer is the rather short window of time you ll have for each meal- if you miss it you re out of luck._______________________________________***Medical/Nursing***This place is great for people with more complicated medical needs- aka they are equipped to handle clients who are on medications that would make them ineligible for many other outpatient programs, such as House of Hope (not recommended btw).Buprenorphine or Suboxone friendly._______________________________________***Programming and Staff***I haven t had a single unpleasant experience when dealing with various staff members from the lowliest tech on to upper management.During my intake process, John, the program director, personally helped me finish when something came up and the normal staff was going to be delayed. That set the tone for the level of quality I ve come to expect from the staff. My counselor has been great, and I d like to give Amanda a HUGE shout out for helping me immensely. She s a freaking champ and deserves a raise. To keep this from going on and on forever- I ll finish by saying that the group time I ve spent here so far with just a single full week in has easily been more fruitful for my recovery than an entire month of group therapy I ve had elsewhere (ahem, Fountain Centers )_______________________________________Definitely give this place a call and look into it further- they will gladly help you find the right level of care and you CAN beat this awful disease. A moment of silence for the addict suffering and those we will lose tonight._______________________________________
