About New Beginnings at Waverly – Men’s Location

New Beginnings at Waverly is an alcohol and drug treatment facility located in Waverly, Minnesota. Their men’s program is a chance for men to focus on their respective issues in a discreet and effective setting. They offer gender-specific services including residential treatment, 12 Step programming, family programs, and aftercare.

Their program for guys is for those who need a high level of support during the initial phases of recovery. This program focuses on addressing your needs and building the skills required to achieve a lifetime of recovery. Treatment protocols included with the residential program include medical management, individual and group therapy, family programming, relapse prevention groups, nutrition lectures, recovery skills groups, therapeutic recreation, 12 Steps, and a male specific curriculum.

The 12 Step program is a common recovery model based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a plan for recovery based on a Higher Power. Middle steps include self examination and making amends to those who’ve been hurt by the addiction. The later steps include continuing to take personal inventory while living a life of recovery and supporting others in doing the same. Additional 12 Step groups include Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) Gamblers Anonymous (GA), to name a few.

Family support is available throughout their residential program. They believe addiction is a family disease and highly encourage family members to be involved in the recovery process. Family educational topics include addiction and disease progression, family response to the illness, communication skills, patient relapse prevention, and the continuum of patient care planning.

Their aftercare services ensure that all clients have access to resources that will support their long-term recovery. Their New Beginnings Minnesota Alumni Group is available to everyone who participated in the treatment programs. This program offers a monthly dinner with speakers and community gatherings.

They take most major insurance plans. They also accept Rule 24 funding through Minnesota’s Behavioral Health Fund. Speak with your individual provider to verify your coverage because out of network benefits can vary.

This place is a joke. The staff is extremely disinterested in providing quality care, especially the gothic counselor. They attempt to brainwash the clients by filling them with lies. I strongly advise against choosing this facility.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
inpatient iconInpatient
Studies of different treatment approaches have found that residential recovery treatment is extremely effective for individuals with a long history of addictive behavior. Additional research also demonstrates that planned treatment, and knowing the expected duration of treatment, strongly correlates with a positive treatment outcome. Since 1982, New Beginnings Minnesota has successfully treated patients with this residential program. Individualized treatment plans are expected to run 28 to 30 days; sometimes up to 45 days, depending on circumstances.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug addiction is defined as an inability to stop using drugs even though it causes negative consequences in your life. Drug rehab in Minnesota provides treatment for drug addiction in a variety of settings including inpatient treatment and outpatient treatment.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Because Addiction is a family disease, New Beginnings Minnesota highly encourages family members to be involved in the patient’s treatment and recovery process. It has been determined that substance abuse by one addict affects ten other people. Therefore, they offer involve families throughout the treatment process in family education, prevention, and ongoing support. This helps rebuild healthy relationships as part of the recovery process. Family educational and support topics include: disease progression; family response to the illness; communication skills; patient relapse prevention and the continuum of patient care planning.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

CHAOTIC BEGINNINGS would be a more accurate title. This is not a good environment for anyone that is serious about recovery! The established "rules" aren't worth the paper they are printed on and that is the nicest way I can put it.100%, the inmates rule the roost because they are horribly short staffed. This means you don't receive the care that you need or want. It comes with constant anxiety due to all the fighting, thieving and poor staff that has the inability to share info between shifts. Borderline anarchy, for real. Stressful.Seriously, do not go to this facility if you want real help!If your "on paper" or trying to suck up to the Courts only - this place is for you.Best wishes to all those who are considering recovery to recover! Your my people.

Horrible place!! (NOTE THIS IS NOT A DETOX!!!) You will not get help detoxing and women coming in high and drunk trigger all the other women! Staff are under trained. Medical-Head nurse is not training her staff, cold as ice, lack of knowledge in her job and has zero compassion for residents. Med passers regularly pass the wrong meds to the wrong clients, pass meds at the incorrect time, keep clients controled substance and don't give them back. Owner acks like he is at a party and flirts with women. Counselors have almost no counseling ability (except one). They keep clients possessions and don't return them (cell phones and tablets). This is a awful place to be!! Women were getting in drugs and alcohol and the women they keep at the lake location are not allowed to be at their location all day up until 8 or 9 pm.

Horrible place. No programming going on while I was there. Some of the staff were very rude. Short staff every day. Programs canceled every day. Was ridiculous. Unless if you re into watching movies and smoking cigarettes all day you ll like it. I wouldn t recommend going here if you re voluntarily trying to get help. Place is a joke!

Women aren't on the lake, you're sent to a dumpy home in the middle of a field. Maybe see the lake once a week for a few minutes. Was told there was a gym to work out in, yeah it's by the lake which you can go to agsin maybe once a week, and it's disgusting, broken equipment, dirty, dusty, garbage all over. The house was dirty, layers of grime and dust on the blinds and fans. I enjoyed most of the groups and mental health stuff and most of the staff was decent. Lots of drama, fighting. One tv ups with 3 couches that were constantly over taken by lodge 2. Oh I should say, women are split into two homes, and one home comes to the other ALL DAY LONG so you have around 28 women in a tiny dingy house. Hardly any activities offered during down time. Always short staffed so lodge 2 could never go back to their house when they were suppose to. I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere cell phones were allowed, which isn't true. Cant use the phones for 3 days when you get there which is a joke. Had a gal actively withdrawing in the shower and only myself and another patient helped her, no staff showed to help. I WILL say that a lot of the staff are amazing. Connie, Rhonda, Dennis , Stacy. I struggled a lot while there and each of these individuals took the time to talk to me and really listened. And for that I am thankful and am almost 7 months sober!

Someone that I know went here last Tuesday and ended up testing positive for Covid on Sunday. The roommate also tested positive for Covid. The facility had a Covid outbreak within the last week and didn t inform new patient coming in giving them the chance to decide if they wanted to take a risk to get exposed. The facility was short staffed because of Covid as well. On Saturday at least 10 people were sent home with Covid as well as on Sunday. At the time all of their isolation rooms were filled. They need to have a better plan in place for an outbreak like this moving forward. If there was an option for no stars that is what I would be giving this place.
