I was assigned a new psychiatrist last year because I had previously working with a resident who ended up moving on to a different practice. I have Borderline Personality Disorder which requires hands-on, active care to maintain mental stability. This psychiatrist was always quite harsh and honestly kind of insensitive, but there s limited options so I stuck with her. Last fall I had a mental break and missed a few appointments. The office notified me that I was in danger of losing my care due to missed appointments, so I really worked to try to get back above water mentally to keep up on my appointments. I have not missed an appointment since January 2024. In July 2024 I received a letter that I had broken trust with my provider and that I was being discharged with the entire Henry Ford Outpatient Psychiatry department. I appealed for a review and my doctor denied it with no option to stay and just see another provider, leaving me with no care to monitor my disorder. They recommended Lifeways, which is impossible to get into and is not that effective, and a county service that I can t use because I don t live in this county and I need legitimate help beyond a county facility s capabilities. Avoid Dr. Maureen Albe. I m distressed and am scared for what my next few months will look like as I try to navigate my BPD without professional care.

Accepted Insurance

Henry Ford Allegiance Outpatient Psychiatry works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Henry Ford Allegiance Substance Abuse Services specializes in outpatient treatment of substance abuse and chemical dependency. They offer individual, group and family therapies to help you if you’re experiencing problems with drugs and/or alcohol. Specialized treatment is available if you have both substance abuse and mental health issues.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
The Partial Hospitalization Program provides an intensive, daily group program that helps address the current crisis, as well as increase and improve individual coping skills. Participants return home each evening. It is an intensive outpatient behavioral health program that: offers help if you’re facing a crisis and require more intensive treatment than weekly therapy, but don’t require 24-hour care; provides treatment for depression, anxiety or bipolar disorder; enables you to participate in intensive group therapy during the day and return home at night; provides an opportunity for group therapy experiences, which allow you to explore thoughts and feelings, and learn new coping skills.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients engaged in a rehab aftercare program have already completed high-level treatment and have begun to develop essential recovery skills. Rehab aftercare services are designed to support clients' sustained sobriety as they reintegrate into their home, workplace, and community. Case managers, care teams, and clients design the customized service portfolio that will best support the client's long-term sobriety. Clients may receive peer coaching, 12 step program induction, vocational training, and relapse prevention services.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober living homes in Michigan act as a bridge between an intensive level of care and the freedom of independent living. The primary rule in every sober living home is to stay sober. If a resident breaks this rule, they can be evicted. However, this environment is designed to prevent relapse, with mutual support, 12-step meetings, a structured schedule, and drug screenings.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
During a medically supervised detox, addictive substances are removed from your body while under the 24/7 supervision of medical professionals in an inpatient environment. This is the safest way to wean your body off of addictive substances, since quitting alcohol or certain drugs (like opioids or benzodiazepines) can be dangerous if done on your own. The program typically lasts around 5-7 days, but is highly individualized depending on your needs.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy in Michigan helps participants view challenges more clearly so they can respond to them in healthy ways. During a limited number of structured sessions, clients learn about and practice these changes to effectively address substance use and mental health disorders.

Both internal and external factors can put stress on a relationship. Couples therapy helps you and your partner work through those stressors and find healthy ways to deal with challenges as they arise.

Experiential therapy in Michigan can be a good supplement to talk therapy for substance use disorder treatment. For those who find talk therapy difficult, this type of therapy provides creative expression and interactive activities that allow the client to explore emotions and motivations.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family involvement is an integral part of treatment. Your family is welcome to be involved in assessment, treatment plan development and family counseling sessions, if recommended.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Substance abuse negatively affects your nutrition. Some drugs affect your metabolism, while others affect how your body absorbs nutrients. Others suppress your appetite. To restore balance to your systems, nutrition therapy provides a healthy meal plan and training for how to eat the right foods to support addiction recovery.

During trauma therapy in Michigan, you are guided through traumatic memories within a safe and supportive environment. Your therapist then provides you with tools to process traumatic events and reduce the symptoms that occur when you're exposed to a trigger. This improves your overall mental health and ability to function in the community.

You'd better hope and pray your prescriber never leaves the system, because they WILL leave you hanging out to dry rather than assign you to someone new in a timely manner - and by "in a timely manner", I mean "before you run out of medication". The ideal time to act on this is three days before you realize you've been screwed over and you're not going to get your refills.

One of my daughter's was referred to Dr. Abedi several years ago (5 years) for multiple issues (ADHD, OCD, and being on the Autism Spectrum), and eventually was diagnosed with ODD (Oppositional Defiance Disorder) Dr. Abedi has always listened to my concerns, as well as attentively monitoring my daughter, always checking blood levels, etc. When I wanted to back off medications, he happily did so, and weaned her off slowly. He was happy to help me find resources when things were fairly dark. My daughter also saw different therapists on the floor as it took us a while to find her a good match. Our home is quite volatile because of my oldest daughter, so my youngest ended up needing to see a therapist (David Ligeski) who recommended she see a doctor there as well. Dr. Handoo is phenomenal! She was so patient, kind, understanding, and wanted to help us find a happy medium between medicating and non-medication. Dr. Handoo even listened to us about my older daughter. At this point, I needed to see my own therapist. While Dr. Abedi was out for medical reasons, Jessica Hull took over my older daughters case until his return. She's very sweet and personable. I asked if she could make time for me and she happily agreed. I saw Katie (therapy) and she's a hoot! A person you can talk to without feeling judged or pressured and it really helped me stay in a positive frame of mind. Jessica prescribed me a few medications, one at my request, and never tried to force more on me or increase them unless I wanted to.Unfortunately, we relocated so we had to say goodbye to everyone at the office. Each doctor took the time to assure us that we'd have prescriptions until we found a doctor here and they're available if an emergency comes up. The office staff is great and most of the time everything is handled perfectly.

Not enough mental health resources in Jackson. Wait list is too long for someone in crisis but once you get in most providers are very good.
