Our Policy: Exclusive Hawaii Rehab works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact us to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Medical detox is the safest way to help rid your body of addictive substances. It takes place in an inpatient setting under the supervision of licensed medical professionals who monitor your vitals and provide any necessary medications to alleviate potential withdrawal symptoms. Typically, this is the first step in the addiction recovery process, and it is often followed by inpatient treatment.

Treatments

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Within a group therapy environment, people can see other individuals walk through a successful recovery and model behaviors that provide them with inspiration and practical examples of how to manage their addiction and maintain their sobriety within the community.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

During couples therapy in Hawaii, your therapist may borrow techniques from multiple forms of therapy based on your needs. Methods may include cognitive behavioral therapy and emotionally focused therapy. The ultimate goal of treatment is a stronger relationship.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Family therapy engages members in a collective effort to understand and combat addiction. Therapists help families establish healthy boundaries and improve emotional support systems. By working together, family members can help their loved one sustain long term recovery.

28 days in this treatment center has facilitated my transition into a life no longer dominated by addiction. The only thing I wish I did differently was plan to stay for the full 90 days instead of just the 30; I am not a person of means, but admissions made it possible for me to come w/ my out of network insurance. the location is beautiful, and i was given all the rest i needed to detox. I grately appreciate the non-12 step approach, as the underlying issues causing my illnesses were fully addressed. I strongly recommend this treatment center to anyone considering it.. it is not a front for kidnapping (my intitial fear)... Exclusive Hawaii makes recovery attractive and allows you to come to it with what you have. Post discharge I am doing much better as I try to recreate the atmosphere of healing I learned at Exclusive in my daily life.

Exclusive was recommended as having a top notch program. I would have to agree. From the get go, I found the staff friendly, compassionate, attentive, respectful and conscientious of clients needs, and made themselves available, if needed. Facility is well kept, comfortable with well planned, delicious meals. Medical staff was well aware of clients needs and did a wonderful job of making client s health a priorty. Sessions were relatively to client s issues and very educational. There were also new perspectives given on issues. Facility was very comfortable and offered beautiful setting with opportunities for solitude and reflection, if desired. I would have given 5 stars except for a couple of scheduling glitches but staff was able to improvise and make good use of time. I would strongly recommend Exclusive Hawaii Rehab.

I entered the Exclusive as part of the out patient transition program after completing 3 weeks at another Rehab facility. The staff was very kind and accommodating throughout my one month stay. The therapist teach differently from each other to allow one to find what works best for them. They have different self are options throughout the week including massage, acupuncture, and IV nutrient packages. Food was good, the main house is gorgeous and kept very clean. Outings to the different beaches, local farmers market, museums, ect. were fun and a nice break through out the week. I think I would have given a five star rating had I been staying at the main house. Overall I believe the staff does truly care about the long term success of the client.

It sounds like you had a positive experience overall, and we're glad that our varied therapies and self-care options added to your comfort. We're sorry to hear that not staying in the main house impacted your experience, and we're grateful for the feedback as it helps us improve. Best wishes as you continue your path to wellness!

I cannot say enough good things about this place!Everyone from admissions, to nurses, therapists, chefs, housekeeping, and all other staff- were incredibly kind and helpful. They all went above and beyond to make every individual feel heard and cared about.I feel that when it comes to rehabs, it doesn't get any better than this! The grounds were beautiful and well kept. The views were out of this world. The accommodations were everything I could have hoped for. Very cozy and welcoming and a beautiful place to get sober and a healthy start to a more beautiful, happy life.

My 45 day stay at Exclusive Hawaii Rehab was extraordinary. My alcohol addiction was terrifying to admit. Health problems forced me to take a hard look at my drinking. Hiding my increasing consumption of wine after decades of drinking and worsening health, embarrassment and shame forced me to seek help. Fortunately I discovered Exclusive and made the phone call. From that moment and throughout my treatment I was deeply moved by the extraordinary professionalism and heartfelt care provided by medical staff, support staff, and the exceptional therapy team. From depth investigation of trauma to practical solutions for re-entering my home and community life, I was held and encouraged and invited to look realistically at the changes needed. What blessings and lovely learning gifts were available from clients as well as all staff. I am forever grateful to Exclusive Hawaii Rehab!Ann BUPDATE TO MY REVIEW:Today my sobriety is nearing the 8th month and I am thanking once again the incredible therapists, doctors, nurses, chefs and all staff at Exclusive Hawaii Rehab! At my tender age of 72, the havoc that decades of alcohol consumption (social drinking of course!) had wreaked upon my heart, liver, etc was ignored by my home doctors by treating my symptoms but not the cause. The faith in me shown by the caring staff during my 45 day stay at Exclusive has carried me to this day. I am enjoying freedom from the many burdens of addiction to alcohol; and I am enjoying continuing improvement of my overall health - thank you!!!PS: I was a client at Exclusive during the entire stay of the angry client who wrote the one star review and update. His violent behavior, screaming, crying, throwing furniture and endless threatening demands for additional drugs was a nightmare for the rest of us. The brief tolerance of the staff (who wanted to and tried to help him) would be my only complaint. I was not alone in being grateful when he departed.

The staff here are some of the most kind hearted people I ve ever had the pleasure of knowing and I am eternally grateful for all of their help. I have had my share of experience with treatment facilities (23 different places to be exact) and none of them helped me address the core issues of my addiction the way that exclusive did. They have a person centered, holistic approach that doesn t just treat symptoms like so many other places. I was also able to address my binge eating disorder while I was here (something I ve struggled with for longer than alcohol and usually gets much worse while in treatment with all of the junk food most places push on you .) Thanks to excellent cooks and an incredible yoga instructor I made positive progress on developing a healthy relationship with food and my body. I also appreciate how much they got us outside, involved in nature, and active. I was in a pit of depression for the majority of my addiction. I was not an active participant in life and the beauty and joy of living were lost on me. There was something about being submerged in a such a beautiful place like Hawaii that brought joy back into my life. I would have never had that experience without this place. You ve all changed my life. Mahalo

My experience at Exclusive Hawaii Rehab put me on a better path in my life. The holistic approach & practices at Exclusive Hawaii Rehab really spoke to me and reopened my thought processes in addition, with a clear head, to my current approach with life and methods of processing the many life challenges that we experience on this turning Earth. I had leaned heavily on the intake of substances to dull the pains & traumas that I had buried deep in myself. Exclusive Hawaii Rehab challenge me to front/face these life events and bring down the dams that I had built around these life moments. As a resident of Hawaii Island, its was a privileged to have been welcomed by ALL the staff at Exclusive Hawaii Rehab and made me phoenix out of my substances reliant introverted way of life that I was living. I rediscovered the Big Island in again feeling the mana of the island landscape, beaches, small town feeling and overall aloha of our Hawaii Island community. With aloha nui loa, I wholeheartedly recommend Exclusive Hawaii Rehab for anyone who appreciates a holistic way, along with excursions, yoga, gardening & meditation to assist you in returning to the wonderful person you are without reaching for substances. Mahalo to ALL at Exclusive Hawaii Rehab for all your aloha.

The Exclusive was my third treatment center, not because I couldn t stay sober, but because I was so profoundly unhappy at the first two places, I couldn t regulate myself. I hid in my room and cried. The Exclusive had never worked with my insurance before, but took a chance on me. I will be forever grateful. I m not going to use staff names because I don t want to leave anyone out. Kitchen staff bought whatever special food I requested. I have chemical sensitivities and they changed laundry soap to accommodate me. One staff person carried every product out of the house I was allergic to. What a sight! I felt so seen and cared for! That went a long way with me. My therapist was skilled and managed to pull off family sessions without my daughter and I screaming at each other. No one has ever accomplished that before. Some staff were born on the island and shared their knowledge of Hawaiian history, Gods, etc. it was more meaningful coming from them than someone who memorized a story. I had private yoga classes with an expert! I learned an incredible model for making life decisions and I apply that to every decision I make and I have shared the model with my dad and my daughter. The place is BEAUTIFUL. It s in the middle of nowhere with an unobstructed view of the ocean. I never tired of the view. I had a beautiful, private room and shared a bathroom with one other woman. We went on two excursions a week and always went somewhere different. We did have the same boring sandwich twice a week (room for improvement there). I felt like I really got to know the island. The staff and owners are kind and generous, warm and supportive. The client group while I was there was perfect. Even though I was 24 years older than the person closest to me in age, everyone was real and present and vulnerable.I can say that no treatment center is perfect, we re all human. I will be forever grateful for my healing at The Exclusive. It s only been 2.5 weeks since I left, but they sent me off with the tools necessary to not drink. I m really putting those tools to the test this holiday season!

UPDATE: **Look at Yelp reviews too**Every since I posted my review below 2 months ago, they have gone on an all-out "positive review" request campaign, coupled with efusive responses from machevillian owner. Look at the suspicious review timeline. 4 glowing reviews given the same week? Mmmm. Manipulation that's to be expected. I hope they up their game on care not just reputation management.Exclusive Hawaii Rehab was a life-thretening nightmare. Now that I am safe at a different facility, one that cares for the value of a human life before profit, I realize just the high level of danger I left behind on that murky, rainy island rehab. I regret putting my life in the hands of such an inept, negligent, ignorant and poorly trained group of people who rely on the a far ocean view to fool clients into believing they will be taken care of with exclusivity and medical integrity. Unfortunately, Exclusive Hawaii proved to be not only a broken promise of trauma-informed mental health expertise but a greed-fueled medically unethical scam. Exclusive Hawaii has its charm and there were moments full of promise and joy but quickly the dysfunctions revealed themselves in a toxic environment which clients and members of their own staff openly discussed in regret and disbelief. I can t give the details of my horrible experience for legal reasons but what I can say is that they played with my life like a chip on a game board, neglected me in time of severe medical crisis, mishandled medications and generally acted unethically in a myriad ways disregarding real mental suffering with carelessness and cruelty. And I'm not the only one, several other clients I know experienced similar horrors, it's just hard to come forth given the sensitive nature of this service category. There are about three staff members with heart at Exclusive Hawaii and I m thankful for their light in a place where the splendor of paradise and the promise of healing are shrouded in low frequency negativity and deceit.
