For children and adolescents, Ellis provides outpatient mental health and co-occurring disorder treatment. Kids can participate in the New York State Certified School Program onsite to allow them to continue with their education while receiving inpatient services. Each patient works with a multidisciplinary team to develop treatment plans that coordinate care with outside support resources such as their families, teachers, schools and community-based agencies.

All forms of commercial health insurance are accepted. Check your insurance provider to verify coverage and out-of-pocket expenses. Ellis also takes Medicaid insurance.

Worst clinic I've ever been too. Counselors are disrespectful and talk to you like you're a moron. I actually went to the head of the mental health department to switch therapists. She also spoke to me like I was mentally retired! She did not give me a new therapist.I said to one not to speak to me like that! He said he wasn't used to having any intelligent conversations with the patients! Then he continued to speak to me that way! I wanted to tell him don't you understand I see through your BS! Anyway, I decided to just HUMOR him!I tried to get him to help me get some training in my choice of career. He not only didn't help me, but at the same time he was constantly threatening to cut off my SSI! He didn't want me to be independent. I felt trapped! The small amount of trust I had with mental health professionals was destroyed by this counselor. Also they're only interested in their agenda. One of them would ask what I wanted to talk about then he would reroute the conversation to what he wanted to talk about. I walked out and never went back. I found out he got fired. I guess he was less of a "money maker" and more of a liability to Ellis. Also, I was actually able to find a good job (no help from Ellis Mental Health). My new private therapist wanted a report from Ellis Mental Health. Ellis had NO RECORDS of me even going there! And I was going there for 3 years! I guess Ellis trashed my records along with the therapist they fired! Interest enough, I found out (from patients I knew) that, that fired therapist went a little "coo coo" himself after he was fired! I was glad. He deserved it!Some of my coworkers needed mental health support. I warned them not to have anything to do with Ellis Hospital Mental Health. We have good insurance so there is no reason to "scraping the bottom of the barrel" using it. We can pick out great private psychologists/ psychiatrists

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Adult program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

After being referred here from inpatient at 4 winds for medication management & counseling, I was railroaded into either giving up my outpatient ptsd specialists, which I need for my recovery & wellbeing, or being ousted from the program. I refused to give in to their unreasonable & frankly unethical & perhaps even illegal demands and I was promptly & unceremoniously dropped from treatment with no med refills or provider and 0 referrals. I believe I was retaliated against for filing complaints from this ill treatment & then medically abandoned with no recourse. Something is very wrong behind the scenes at this location. I have filed several reports regarding this disgusting miscarriage of justice and possible medical malpractice & abandonment. Repulsive. At the very least, unethical.5 times this post has been upvoted. As I feared, this implies the shrew on a power trip in charge of this clinic is doing this on a systemic scale. What about the other patients who won't or can't speak up?Meanwhile the state of NY does nothing about this. Maybe it's time to phone the press.

I ve been going here since my suicide attempt in May of 2017 and I honestly couldn t be happier with the doctors I have. I d never been able to find a therapist I clicked with until I got here (Miklos). I will admit that I endured a couple years of suffering under the spacey and aggressive rule of Dr Mittol, who used the threat of withholding refills to force me into bending to his arbitrary rules, but I was able to switch to a better psychiatrist, and once that one retired I was sent to an even better one (Dr Mantas) who I am so pleased with.I ve even started seeing the primary care here (Dr Ferro) so I have all my needs available in one building, and I have to say he too is probably the most personable and attentive PCP I ve ever had.It s always clean and everyone has always been pleasant.Very little funding and care is allocated to health care in this awful country, in general, so this is of course going to be especially true for mental health services, which aren t taken as seriously by really anyone. It is because of this national systemic problem that I think someone may have struggles getting an appointment or finding the doctor who is right for them. The benefits of this field aren t grand, so I do truly believe the people working here are doing so because they are passionate about what they do. Some doctors are jerks (like my old psychiatrist), but please try to remember that the people here are also constantly being obstructed from providing full care by our privatized, for-profit health care system.
