The crisis response here is abysmal. If you're experiencing negative side effects, you can't call and talk to a provider about your concerns. The receptionists role their eyes at you over the phone. After called over and over for 3 business days, I finally got a call back from a provider who "booked" me an appointment with our provider, but that provider never showed up. The agency is the pits and I would highly recommend not bothering with them at all.Update: Eliot Center has put my son's life in danger multiple times and we're desperately trying to leave this agency. I will be reporting them to the licensing board as I feel strongly they are not operating safely. I have been talked down to by receptionists, had to call over and over to have meds filled, had to get emergency prescriptions filled because they ignore my calls for refills, and had my son end up in the hospital because the on call nurse wouldn't return our phone call. Our practitioners have been lovely, but they're clearly overworked and burdened by the general chaos of the agency. They need a complete organizational overhaul in order to treat patients safely.

Worst mental health services I have ever gotten in my life. Do not go here unless you wanna get worse to the point you wanna end everything. I have gotten worse from being here. They provide medication that should be checked every two weeks. Did not get a single call back and these medications can cause psychosis if not used right. I will never ever go here again. They should be shut down and never provide services again. As someone who has been here since I was 13 and have not improved as I m now 22. I would like a huge apology from the whole staff for failing me.

Good luck getting anything done with reception. They're extremely rude and do not respect you at all. They will straight up hang up on you when you get rightfully upset they aren't doing their jobs. Genuinely so unprofessional.

Accepted Insurance

Eliot Center at Everett works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
12-step icon12-Step
Recovery models based on 12 step programs feature extensive peer coaching and emphasize personal growth as a key to sustained sobriety. Regular attendance at 12 step meetings, which are anonymous, free, and available daily, is expected. The 12 steps of recovery are based on spiritual principles and support participants in addressing the root causes of their disease, accept responsibility for their choices, and accept that which is beyond their control. Self-selected sponsors provide one-one-mentoring.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
A drug intervention in Massachusetts provides friends and family the opportunity to share how a person's substance use has caused problems in their lives. The goal of the intervention is to encourage the person to get the treatment they need. Most rehab facilities offer intervention services that can help families prepare for the intervention and facilitate entry into treatment if the person agrees to get help.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Addiction is a highly complex problem, and drug rehab in Massachusetts is often necessary to address it. These programs treat physical, mental, and relational issues that are involved. Treatment empowers individuals to manage these issues without the use of drugs.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.
hiv-aids-program thumbnail image
HIV/AIDS Program
HIV/AIDS programs support disease prevention and management in high-risk individuals in recovery. Individuals who engage in intravenous drug use and other addictive behaviors are at a higher risk of becoming infected with HIV. Rehab centers that specialize in treating this population typically have a high number of nurses, physicians, and psychiatrists on staff who can make sure both their medical and mental health needs are met.

Clinical Services

During cognitive behavioral therapy in Massachusetts, clients work with a trained counselor to identify negative thinking patterns and change them. This change in thinking has been shown to lead to changes in behavior to treat substance use and mental health disorders effectively.

If you are experiencing intense, negative emotions, dialectical behavior therapy can help you learn how to regulate painful emotions and manage the interpersonal situations that generate them. This method is often used during substance use treatment in Massachusetts to help you develop better coping skills and avoid relapse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Therapists in Massachusetts offer individual therapy in a confidential setting to help you explore the complex factors that have contributed to your drug addiction. Using a tailored approach, your therapist supports you and utilizes evidence based treatment modalities to help you develop healthier thought patterns and behaviors. This builds a foundation for enduring sobriety.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

The best time for nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) in Massachusetts is the moment you quit. You can start this therapy right away to lessen cravings and withdrawal symptoms, so the process is easier. Research has shown that NRT increases the chances of success. Options include patches, gum, inhalers, sprays, and lozenges.

ELIOT has incompetent staff. They should not be prescribing orders. They do not return calls. They have put medication orders in with the wrong medication, another time with the wrong birth date. Prescribers and Therapists switch out, without ever letting the patient know. The staff openly admit they are overloaded with clients, and that's the excuse for them not keeping the appointments that they, themselves have scheduled. They have put my son's life in danger several times. I am making a formal complaint to the Governor's office as well as Mass Rehab. I would never recommend Elliot human behavioral services to anybody. This organization/business needs to be shut down. I am also calling channel 7 as well .

Our entire family appreciated all The Eliot Team did to make my sister feel comfortable during her stay with them, and to manage her health issues. All the staff were kind and caring towards my sister, and demonstrated a work ethic and professionalism that resulted in a positive experience for my sister and our family.

My 6 year old has been on the waiting list since April. I received an email back in June saying they re taking her off the waitlist because I never signed the release they sent. I never received one. So the person who was emailing me ( who was very rude btw) says I ll resend them but if you don t return our email in the future she will be taken off the list I never received any paperwork in my email. The only things I received was the original notice that acknowledges I wanted treatment, the email saying she was being removed, and the documents she resent that I needed to sign. When I asked for some type of estimate in how long we would be waiting she said she had no idea, but that most people don t respond. Humm same situation that I just went through. I m just wondering how I m supposed to get my daughter the service that she needs? I called and left messages countless times and nobody s ever responded. I waited months for her to be seen and her issues aren t getting better. I m going to call today to try to see what we can do as her Pediatrician keeps referring us here .

Editing to add that someone called me from Eliot, explained the situation, and was very apologetic. This, IMO, makes up for what happened especially since I have a better understanding of everything.Avoid this place at all costs. Communication is horrible. It took me a month to get my medical records. No one answers the phone or returns voicemails, and no one responds to emails. Initially I was told that I had to go in-person to submit the medical release form which I thought was strange considering we are almost a year into a pandemic. I thought surely businesses would have adapted their procedures to reduce in-person interactions. A month later when my records still weren't released I spent 2-3 days calling every number I could and sending multiple emails, trying to speak to a human being to get answers. It honestly seems like no one is working at Eliot right now, or they are just working whenever they feel like it. The cherry on top is when I finally received an email from the director, Melissa, who sent me the release form electronically! Also, the therapist I was seeing (who I really liked) is no longer working here and now I see that there is a high turn-over rate so that makes sense. I suggest to avoid the headaches go elsewhere...
