About Elements Counseling Group

Elements Counseling Group is a grassroots organization serving adults, families and youth in Santa Maria, California. They work within the community and with voluntary and court ordered individuals. They strive to help foster healing from addiction, mental health conditions and other challenges.

You’ll benefit from a person centered approach to treatment with proven interventions to reach your recovery goals. Their outpatient services include targeted care such as workshops, group sessions, prevention services, psychoeducation and interventions.

What stands out most to me is their emphasis on strengthening the family unit. Rebuilding relationships with loved ones can be essential to sustain recovery. You’ll have a safe, supportive space to work through family challenges and develop healthy coping skills together.

Some former clients applaud them for their empathetic services and friendly staff. Others felt their counseling services were lacking and didn’t see much improvement in their lives after attending.

Finding the best care for you is a personal experience. Always research and consider multiple facilities to find the right option.

HEllO WOLRD,I have been seeing MS. Sherilyn Young for PTSD. She is an OUT of NETWORK Provider for the VA and plus any other people that are seeking good therapy and wanting to be better. She is professional. Her office needs an upgrade. She needs a plush building because she is doing good stuff. Give her what she asks for.

Previous Dr left and asked for help finding a new one. Staff at front desk will laugh at you for asking questions about services and use sarcasm. Don t go here obviously here for the paycheck onlyEdit: due to reply from ElementsI agree someone reached out to make it a smooth transition however when I called back whoever answered the call since I mistakenly called it your front desk which seems to be concern rather than the issue of your staff clearly being rude and unprofessional shows how you are as a business.I understand if you re upset but don t try to make it seem like there s not enough context. Also no referral was given so clearly you re falsifying.Anyways my apologies for mistaking your front desk staff title or whoever answered it clearly wasn t a Dr though but as a business taking constructive criticism is part of it.If there s something I m misunderstanding Im willing to listen. Anyways just doing a courtesy for people looking for help and struggling not trying to be made feel worse.

I am sorry you feel this way. However, our policy is that we would have attempted to transfer you to one of our several therapists that work in our office and make it a smooth transition if it were possible or if you were a returning client to start you fresh with another. If you chose to leave our office we would have directed you to Psychology Today which has a list of known therapists. Furthermore, we do not have a front desk staff. If any of my therapists working here were sarcastic and untherapeutic and I was aware of this it would have been addressed.

Accepted Insurance

Elements Counseling Group works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

S. Young deserves 0 stars. Seeing her for therapy, needed me to get more therapy .. the list of things she has done are unacceptable. I was 14-17 seeing Sherilyn bc my mother and brother had passed I had a horrible childhood and bad relationship with my father I couldn t pick my therapist bc my family controlled everything who Sherilynn also saw. Firstly, during our sessions she would completely disregard my feelings and invalidate my experiences I remember her exact words one session were yeah your dad is a narcissist and later in that same session he told me that his worst fear of you not talking to him so I don t think you should . She would always tell me that I needed to HEAL my DAD.. She also would tell me things about my families sessions, I don t doubt she shared my info as well and that is why I could never open up to her. Telling her a memory from childhood about a time I had anxiety she completely told me No you were just excited . I know my feelings. Also, i remember one day walking into my session i was upset because I was just being yelled at in the car and had a bad day so naturally I was sitting sad not talking to anyone and she came out for our session and my dad was talking to me and I just sat there and she said I should be nicer. Seeing her I never realized how terrible and unethical all of these things were possibly bc I was just a teenager and in a household that was not healthy. As soon as I had a phone session and she told me how I need to heal my dad and his trauma and that s why he doesn t treat me well. I played it on speaker and my sister told me how un okay that was and ever sense I have been so sad for my teenage self who just wanted to be heard and validated. This is only the small things that I feel comfortable sharing online, but there are many more situations. I don t like leaving bad reviews or really being super negative lol but I hope my review saves someone else from going to her.
