About Coleman Health Services

Coleman Professional Services provides behavioral health, educational services, and wraparound care for clients of all ages. They have locations across Ohio, including their headquarters in Kent. Here, they offer outpatient, residential, and supportive programs to help you address your health concerns, including addictions. They accept self payment and most of their services are also covered under private insurance, Medicaid and Medicare.

Something I appreciate about this facility is how extensive the programming is. If you’re struggling with a condition like drug or alcohol addiction, they have a vast network of providers who can support your needs. Some of their clinical services include crisis stabilization, case management, individual and group counseling, evaluations and assessments and peer support groups. They also offer psychiatric services for clients with co-occurring mental health conditions.

If your care team recommends medication assisted treatment to help relieve your pain and control your cravings, they may administer Vivitrol. This is a medication approved by the FDA that can help lower your risk of relapse when given in conjunction with counseling and other behavioral therapies.

Some clients may prefer to continue their recovery journey in temporary or permanent sober housing. If this is the case, they’ll help you connect to their residencies. A few of the options include apartments and group homes.

Their reception/admin and billing departments clearly do not communicate. After I got married, I requested to update my chart with my new name and my husband s insurance. I was not able to do so over the phone and as requested I came to the office with my new ID and insurance card. This was early August 2023. I received a statement in February where I was billed for the full office fee for my appointments from later last August and September. I called and asked them to please submit to my current insurance as I checked and there were no claims pending with them. March, the same thing happens. April, I m billed again but with the additional balance of my February 2024 visit. I paid my copay for that visit and called again and emailed Customer Support. No response. When my husband and I call, the receptionist always says they ll let billing know and they ll handle it. Last week, I got a call saying that my provider didn t accept my new insurance even though no one had told me when I started to see them in February and I d had several appointments with them. This is unacceptable. And it s a shame because the providers I ve worked with there over the years have been wonderful, helpful, and so compassionate and kind. They ve gotten me to a better place with their guidance and support and for their care, I m forever grateful. It s just the reception/admin and billing that s ruined the experience of trying to improve my mental health with them. I will report Coleman to the BBB if this is not resolved soon. I work in medical billing and this is not an acceptable way of handling issues like these. Once, I can understand, it happens especially at a busy place like this- but several months of asking for the same thing and getting no help or resolution? Absurd.

Accepted Insurance

Coleman Health Services works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Clients who have just completed detox or who are at an increased risk of relapse, such as those experiencing a life crisis, typically enroll in an inpatient rehab. There, they receive housing, meals, and intensive clinical supervision. Inpatient treatment typically involves extensive individual, group, and family therapy. Clients may also participate in life skills training to support their long-term sobriety. Integrative rehab centers offer a variety of evidence-based holistic therapies, such as meditation or equine therapy.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) are designed for clients who need frequent, high-level care but do not require, or choose to forgo, inpatient treatment. Most intensive outpatient rehabs offer a minimum of nine hours of treatment weekly, though clients may receive up to 20 hours of care as needed. These programs typically combine various treatment modalities, including individual, group, and family counseling, medication assisted treatment (MAT), addiction and recovery education, and evidence-based complementary therapies, such as acupuncture and massage.
aftercare iconAftercare
12-step icon12-Step
Many treatment centers base their recovery models on the 12 step programming standard, which combines intensive peer support with spiritual, psychological, and emotional growth. Participants in 12 step recovery programs are expected to regularly attend group meetings, which are free, anonymous, peer-led, and open to the public. They are also required to select a sponsor to guide them through the recovery journey. These programs deploy spiritual principles to foster participants' self-understanding, forgiveness, acceptance, and accountability.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
A sober living home in Ohio is often recommended for those completing a drug rehab program. When you leave the structured setting of rehab, returning home can trigger relapse due to the abrupt change in environment. Men's and women's sober living homes act as transitional spaces to continue developing tools for recovery before fully re-entering society. It gives you time to adjust to the demands of life, in a setting that is free from substances.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services help family members prepare for a drug intervention in Ohio. During an intervention, family members typically read letters they have prepared that explain how the individual's substance abuse has affected their lives and relationships. Each family member also explains what they will do if the individual does not agree to get treatment. An intervention specialist offers support to guide this discussion and makes appropriate treatment recommendations.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Medical detox involves clearing your body of drugs and/or alcohol under the 24/7 care of licensed medical professionals. If you've become dependent on alcohol or drugs (like benzodiazepines or opioids), quitting abruptly can have uncomfortable and even dangerous side effects. The purpose of medically assisted detox is to keep you as safe and comfortable as possible during this process. Medications like Suboxone or Vivitrol may be provided if necessary to mitigate any withdrawal symptoms.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

equine-therapy iconEquine Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Creative arts therapy can be an effective tool for recovery. It can relieve depression and anxiety and help you feel more in control of your life. Through creative expression, it can help you explore difficult emotions and process challenging situations.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

When you quit smoking, your body experiences withdrawal because it's not used to the absence of nicotine. When you use nicotine replacement therapy in Ohio, you get controlled amounts of nicotine to ease these symptoms without the negative effects of the other chemicals found in cigarettes.

Front desk staff are generally unresponsive, do not pay attention to questions asked or conversations being held. They are more often than not distracted by lunch/something on their phone. Most often rather 'snippy'.For a mental health clinic, they have horrible front staff. However, their psychiatric staff is very kind and understanding. At least in my experience, that is.

I wish there was a no starA couple years ago I would fight someone talking bad about Coleman until this experience I just had. I was scared to take Welbutrin about 3 years ago I started taking it daily. I had a nice little stash from all the times I was prescribed and didn t take. Well last October I lost my Medicaid. So whyyyy would I pay cash for medicine I already have because my new insurance sucks. Well I m almost out of my medication go in for and appointment because I didn t come in for any recent appointments. WHY would I want to get in more debt and have to pay for the office visit AND medicine I already have? Make this make sense. Mind you I work for Drs so I KNOW how this goes. So really the problem is they aren t getting my money. It s SO easy to remember if you want to.I have NEVER seen a mental health place do so much mental cruelty to someone. So now I m going to be without my medication because I didn t come in enough even tho I didn t need to?This is INSANEAnyone taking welbutrin knows you do not just stop taking it! Shame on Dr Welch

A joke of a therapy place. Had me fill out a bunch of information for them that I got a letter in the mail two weeks later it was stolen by someone. Been going here for years and I feel disgusted. How is your only advice to an abusive relationship is a pamphlet of things to discuss. You try to hospitalize me as well but then say you don t have any room to, so why did you waste 3 hours of my time having me sit there.Furthermore, I never once got any better from the years of coming here. You were charging me without even informing me after 6 months, then as we figure out a way for me to still attend and take care of the balance, I receive another notorious letter from you guys that my therapist is dropping me. Right after my balance is cleared.

Called as new pt, asking if a specific doctor took new pts.I was asked 'what ins do you have?'Ans: Medicare & Medicaid.Asked 'what county I live in.'Answer Portage."We can't take you, since Medicare is your primary, we don't take Medicare."I responded that either could be billed, I already checked with Medicaid."We don't take Medicaid."I responded "what is wrong with you people, really, what is wrong with you?" She hung up on me. I checked website. Both Medicare & Medicaid listed as insurances they accept.I called back, asked for a manager; of course, they were in a meeting. Explained above convo to 2nd person, website lists both ins, "what is the problem?" I was accused of "screaming." I was not screaming. Tactic on her part to justify being rude to me is all that was. I was given more contradictions and elusive answers. This is a MENTAL HEALTH FACILITY?! I've never dealt with such condescending and incompetent staff from a healthcare facility. This facility needs INVESTIGATED!

Can not get a straight answer from staff whether or not I am eligible to be seen. One week its I am eligible, to the next that I am now longer eligible and need to look elsewhere. One minuet is that it is a quick appointment and the next is its a huge and time consuming process to be seen.Just so much misinformation is given to a potential client that I would not waste my time and would suggest that anyone considering them to look elsewhere as I have done.
