About Blue Hills Recovery

Blue Hills Recovery is a rehab facility located in Worcester, MA. We offer Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient, and Outpatient levels of care for substance use disorders or mental health. As a member of the Harmony Recovery family, we combine the staff-to-patient ratio of a small program with the clinical excellence of a larger one.

Blue Hills Recovery is situated in a tree-lined neighborhood in Worcester. We are only two blocks away from the shores of Indian Lake and less than half a mile from our beautiful sober living residences. Here you will find compassionate professionals dedicated to helping foster enduring recovery.

At Blue Hills Recovery, we acknowledge the uniqueness of every client in actionable ways. This is one of the reasons we utilize a ‘levels of care’ model to substance use and mental health treatment. The details of this approach can be a bit complex, but here’s the short version. We pay attention. We pay attention to who our clients are and what they need. Then, we strive to “meet them where they’re at” and help them address their issues in ways that get the results that they want.

Here is a quick rundown of our varying levels of care.

Outpatient treatment programs preserve the autonomy of our clients. Those in Outpatient programs meet at regular intervals with a therapist or counselor. For outpatient clients, Blue Hills Recovery recommends meeting at least once a month with your treatment provider.

Clients needing more treatment should consider our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). IOP allows clients to continue the meet their prior obligations and responsibilities to work, school, or family. As an added benefit, those enrolled in IOP continue to reside in their own homes.

For clients in need of the deepest level of care, Blue Hills suggests our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). PHP clients attend therapy sessions that last a little less than a typical workday. When the treatment program concludes, clients commute back home.

Accepted Insurance

Blue Hills Recovery works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
12-step icon12-Step
Recovery models based on 12 step programs feature extensive peer coaching and emphasize personal growth as a key to sustained sobriety. Regular attendance at 12 step meetings, which are anonymous, free, and available daily, is expected. The 12 steps of recovery are based on spiritual principles and support participants in addressing the root causes of their disease, accept responsibility for their choices, and accept that which is beyond their control. Self-selected sponsors provide one-one-mentoring.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
A drug intervention in Massachusetts provides friends and family the opportunity to share how a person's substance use has caused problems in their lives. The goal of the intervention is to encourage the person to get the treatment they need. Most rehab facilities offer intervention services that can help families prepare for the intervention and facilitate entry into treatment if the person agrees to get help.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Medically supervised detox is the process of removing addictive substances from your body and managing the withdrawal symptoms in a medically supervised environment. Typically, this is the first step in the recovery process and lasts an average of 5-7 days, though the length can vary depending on your individual needs. Once your system is cleared of alcohol and drugs, you'll likely transition to an inpatient treatment program for the next phase of your recovery.

Treatments

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.

Clinical Services

During cognitive behavioral therapy in Massachusetts, clients work with a trained counselor to identify negative thinking patterns and change them. This change in thinking has been shown to lead to changes in behavior to treat substance use and mental health disorders effectively.

If you are experiencing intense, negative emotions, dialectical behavior therapy can help you learn how to regulate painful emotions and manage the interpersonal situations that generate them. This method is often used during substance use treatment in Massachusetts to help you develop better coping skills and avoid relapse.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses the psychological impact of experiencing a traumatic event. You can also experience mental and emotional injury after witnessing a trauma. By identifying what triggers those responses and developing effective coping mechanisms, you can rebuild a sense of safety and trust in your environment.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing

If you find it difficult to put thoughts and feelings into words, creative arts therapy in Massachusetts might be a good treatment method for you. Through art, music, and other expressive activities, this therapy allows you to explore and convey thoughts and emotions in a safe, creative space.

Overall, the place is great. There are some inconsistencies in staffing and level of therapies available. There is a disconnect in communication from the beginning as to what is and is not covered by insurance. "In network vs out of network".Our insurance lapsed and Zoe, Blue hills amazing regional manager, stepped in to rectify, so treatment could continue.Group leader, Peter, has the knowledge and acceptance to acknowledge each individually. He focuses on the person and the underlying causes for each. This is great in a group setting and allows all to experience different things together. I can't tell you how much peter has meant to my treatment . He has gone above and beyond for me. Just an all around great human being and I'm internally greatfull to him. I'm really going to miss seeing peter every morning.Blue hills is designed to be a drug rehabilitation center. Although there are some, as myself, who were there for mental health only, majority of the clients are there for mental health associated with drug rehab .Also just wanted to say thank you to lee , Jodi, Nicole, Ryan, Tony, carla, nick , and Rich. More incredible staff at blu Hills that help me along my mental healthjourney here.Respectfully YoursRafael. M

I came to this treatment for mental health and addiction treatment. Kelly truly made all the difference at the facility and the techs really helped with my time there and recovery. All treatment facilities have their difficulties and struggles but I felt heard in my concerns and could see changes happen or coming. I would not be where I am now in my recovery without Kelly and her groups that truly made a difference.

Kelly is an amazing facilitator however when you are on IOP 3 they really need to check what days you are scheduled for before they call you to see if you are coming in. Pretty sure my scheduled days for groups are also on the computer where you are looking up my phone number.

Response from the owner1 month ago
Your feedback is invaluable to us. We will address the scheduling issue you mentioned. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

The place serves its purpose, I have a long history of substance abuse which involves numerous treatment centers. I stayed here longer than any other place and thats mostly due to the staff who I was directly involved with on a daily basis and the fact that they give you plenty of freedom. I'll forever be grateful for it but I will say that I've noticed they have lowered standards to save money in some areas which I guess isn't something I would even notice if I wasn't there when it was happening. All in all I would recommend it to someone who has a mental health/substance abuse disorder and needs therapy and a break from the stresses of life.
