About Beginnings Treatment Centers

Beginnings Treatment Centers is a private substance abuse treatment program in Costa Mesa, California, north of Lions Park. They have a multi-stage treatment program that ensures clients get the care and attention they need to recover. They serve adult clients.

The staff at Beginnings Treatment Centers combine evidence-based drug and alcohol addiction treatments with psychological testing. This approach allows them to better detect and treat co-occurring disorders. Their full continuum of care includes detox, inpatient treatment, a partial hospitalization program (PHP), an intensive outpatient program (IOP), dual diagnosis (co-occurring disorder) treatment, and aftercare.

Medically monitored detox is often the first step of treatment at this facility. Clients reside at the facility so staff can tend to their needs and help them manage symptoms as their body undergoes detoxification. Medication may also be used to manage symptoms.

The inpatient program allows clients to live at the facility for the length of the program, ensuring they stay in a secure and drug-free environment, cared for by staff. Treatment follows a structured schedule of recovery activities, including counseling, therapy (group and individual), education groups, mindfulness training, nutritional support, and additional medical services as needed. At this stage, clients begin to understand more about the nature of addiction and develop critical coping and life skills.

The PHP is a step down from inpatient treatment. Clients spend several hours a day at the facility engaging in therapy and other recovery activities. However, at this stage, clients are cleared to live at home.

The IOP is similar to PHP, but because it’s a lower level of care, clients meet less often and for shorter sessions. Clients learn relapse-prevention strategies and stress management techniques in addition to participating in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and social skills workshops.

A co-occurring disorder is a behavioral health diagnosis (such as depression) that exists alongside substance abuse. Because the symptoms of co-occurring disorders often feed off one another, specialized treatment is required to reduce the risk of relapse.

Before clients complete treatment, they meet with their care team to develop an aftercare plan. Aftercare connects clients with recovery resources and communities to help sustain recovery. Beginnings Treatment Centers allows alumni to remain connected through teleconferencing technology.

Beginnings Treatment Centers accepts most major insurance plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Health Net, Cigna, United Healthcare, Anthem, and UMR. Clients should consult with their insurance provider to confirm coverage, because in network and out of network benefits can vary.

Decent place but the clinical team is an absolute joke from the clinical director down. They utilize students in their practicum in college as therapists, and do not provide any actual therapy. The students often don't know what they're doing, and the groups are terrible.

Levels of Care

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. At Beginnings, a detox plan will be created for the individual, because they understand that everybody is different.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs. IOP program at Beginnings Treatment Centers is administered at their modern and well-appointed Orange County Clinical Addiction Treatment Center. Meeting three mornings a week, clients are able to receive exceptional treatment while maintaining their work or school commitments.
outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements. The Residential Treatment Center offered by Beginnings has been in existence for over 46 years, and is located in Costa Mesa, only minutes from the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean and the beaches of Newport Beach and Huntington Beach. The Beginnings Orange County Treatment Center is located on a quiet residential campus and features clean, safe, and comfortable addiction treatment facilities.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn’t spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community  programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA). Beginnings utilizes the latest and most effective technology to help provide and maintain a continuing support system for clients across the nation and around the world. Their clients remain an active member of their family, the Beginnings Treatment Centers Community, through the use of Live Media Streaming Hub and world class teleconferencing capacity.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention Services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need. Beginnings Treatment Centers offers addiction advisors who are trained in intervention techniques by Earl Hightower, one of the most famous interventionist in the world.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Their dual diagnosis treatment is based depending on the individual's needs.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

One of my best friends had struggled with addiction to Oxycontin and other opiates for years. He was in and out of rehabs forever it seemed. At Beginnings somehow they got through to him. He's clean now over six months. Great program with excellent clinical staff.

New Beginnings has been a blessing to my family it gave me back the man I love. We have tried multiple rehab but but he always relapsed back to his old ways. It wasn t until he found New Beginnings with its kind friendly and knowledgeable staff that he was able to finally complete a rehab program. I recommend if you want a rehab that s caters individually to your love one and also shares their experiences strength and hope. New Beginnings will give you a new life .

I would like to share my experience at Beginnings Treatment Center in Costa Mesa. I was at Beginnings from November 27th, 2021 to March 30th, 2022. It was the best thing I could have done for my recovery. I was welcomed by 3 people who immediately made me feel at home - Natalie, Katie and Johnny. The entire staff always seemed to have my best interest at heart. I was only going to stay for 1 month but because of my care team and efforts made by staff, I wanted to stay longer. I ended up staying 4 months and having nothing but good things to say about the entire center. I spent 3 of the 4 months in sober living and appreciated the structure of the program and sober living. I would recommend this treatment center to anyone in need of help with addiction or alcoholism. I will take away from Beginnings lots of education and friendships as I continue my recovery.Brad W.

I came here in 2020 for 4 months and stayed sober awhile. After a few more relapses, in 2022 I came back to this program because of the safety I discovered here and the family that I had built with the staff that works at Beginnings. This is where I have been able to build a solid foundation for my recovery and for myself. Natalie, Johnnie, Kathy, Katie, Camille, Dr. Soren and many more have loved me despite my pushback and my mistakes along the way. They welcomed me back with open arms and no judgement. A special thank you to Miss Natalie for being my friend and role model and for getting me back here after a nasty relapse. This place and these people never gave up on me, even when I had given up on myself. I 10/10 recommend this program if you re interested in building a rock solid foundation for a new way of living and a new hope for life and yourself. I have been blessed with a true family, a family I ve never had before. I love my family here and if not for them and this program I would still be out on the street running in the rat race. I love you guys and thank you.

This treatment center saved my life and gave me a whole new outlook onto my recovery. The staff was very supportive and helped in anyway they could. Showed me the right path through hard times in my stay there as well. This treatment center isn't like just any other one, this is a family and it gives you a second family and home to feel safe and to give you the support you need in your recovery. I will be coming back for all the Alumni meetings and events that I am able to in the future. Thank you to my entire care team my amazing case manager and therapist who helped me thrive! Love this family and always will <3

I graduated from Beginnings on March 17th 2021 and have been clean for 505 days today!I will forever be grateful for the personal treatment and therapy I received there. I was terrified of going to treatment but it s the best decision I have ever made. The staff was very understanding of my issues and tailored my detox to my needs. The therapy I received after detox is the foundation of my continued sobriety. Thank you so much for being an integral part of my journey to living my best sober life!!!!

This was and will be my 1st and only rehab stint. And it's thanks to the structure of the program and the true caring of the clients by all the staff. The program is rock solid and puts you in a very solid place for recovery. I can't thank them enough for helping me be in the place I am today. For helping me be the person I am today. Of all the places in SoCal, this was the place my interventionist said is the best. Thank you!
