About BasePoint Academy Teen Mental Health Treatment and Counseling Forney

BasePoint Academy is a mental health counseling, therapy and treatment service facility specifically for teens and adolescents ages 11-18 struggling with mental health or substance abuse issues. They’re located in Forney, Texas, just east of Dallas past Mesquite. It’s one of three BasePoint Academy locations in the Greater Dallas/Fort Worth area. They provide partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs.

BasePoint Academy offers a full array of services to accommodate your young person’s addiction crisis including no cost assessments and a full time onsite physician. They also offer transportation to and from their location for your convenience.

Many different insurance providers are accepted and there are self-pay methods available.

BasePoint focuses on treatment for depression, anxiety, trauma, substance abuse and suicidal ideation. They also work with kids who have a dual diagnosis, for instance, trauma related anxiety and substance abuse. The treatment process is evidence and science based, centered on the concept of resiliency.

BasePoint asserts that teens and adolescents exposed to trauma, who develop maladaptive coping behaviors like drug use, are more resilient or mentally elastic due to their youth. They’re better able to absorb new, healthier coping mechanisms than adults. BasePoint harnesses this elasticity and natural aspect of youth in their treatment approach.

In my opinion, a major plus when weighing this treatment facility against others are the many different forms of therapy that BasePoint Academy offers. These can include activity based, dialectical (DBT), whole family group therapy, psychopharmacology, or medicine supported therapy, psychodynamic, trust based, cognitive (CBT), psychotherapy, and play therapy.

In addition to therapy, they also feature free assessments, a crisis hotline, amenities, and medication management so they don’t become too dependent on their prescriptions.

With this many different forms of treatment available, this facility seems able to shift gears to a different or more effective method of treatment if necessary and to facilitate a high chance of success as a result.

This is an amazing program. I highly recommend it to anyone in need. The facility is nice and clean, and the staff there are extremely welcoming. Once you reach the end of the program the after care team is off the charts. They were able to get me scheduled with post treatment weeks before I even discharged.

My daughter was just discharged from their program and I can honestly say this place did amazing work for her. She didn t want to leave as she has grown to love the staff and trust them. When she was admitted she wasn t doing to well mentally. After one month we saw a 180 in her behavior. After two months she is better able to cope and analyze events that set her off. She has had setbacks here and there but it s to be expected. But she is in a far better place with better coping skills than she went in with. She was able to do schooling there which was a worry to me. After she had been discharged we know she isn t mentally ready to go back to normal everyday school but they were able to extend the charter school program for her so that she can do homeschooling. I now know where to go if we have any additional issues in the future along with where to point parents who were in my position. I can t give this place enough praise for helping my daughter and my family.

Location

Accepted Insurance

BasePoint Academy Teen Mental Health Treatment and Counseling Forney works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Per session payment lets you pay for each treatment at the time of service. You may also pay for a certain number of sessions up front and then pay for more if needed. This format allows you to tailor the financial investment to your specific needs and avoid having a large lump sum payment due at the end of the treatment program.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab programs are geared toward clients in early recovery. They also provide intensive support for clients in crisis and those at an increased relapse risk. Clients receive housing and meals while in inpatient care, allowing them to focus solely on their recovery. Most programs prioritize addiction counseling but may draw on various psychotherapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT, RBT, trauma therapy, and motivational interviewing. Life skills training and holistic therapies are also common in inpatient care.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
24-hour clinical care in Texas provides a safe environment for medical detox. This setting is crucial to provide medical care during withdrawal. Certain withdrawal symptoms can cause life-threatening conditions, but patients in a supervised clinical setting have treatment readily available to address any symptoms before they become severe. Treatment can also be provided for co-occurring physical and mental health issues.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Ridding the body of harmful, addictive substances, also known as detoxification, is usually the first phase of recovery. Those going through medically assisted detox can be administered medications by a team of medical professionals who are on-site 24/7 to provide different types of therapies that help mitigate withdrawal symptoms.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
hiv-aids-program thumbnail image
HIV/AIDS Program
HIV/AIDS programs support disease prevention and management in high-risk individuals in recovery. Individuals who engage in intravenous drug use and other addictive behaviors are at a higher risk of becoming infected with HIV. Rehab centers that specialize in treating this population typically have a high number of nurses, physicians, and psychiatrists on staff who can make sure both their medical and mental health needs are met.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Treatment that takes a dialectical behavior therapy approach focuses on four strategies. Distress tolerance will help you accept and tolerate intense emotions. Emotional regulation will teach you to manage those emotions. Mindfulness will keep you in the present moment instead of regret or worry. Interpersonal effectiveness will teach you to manage your relationships.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Therapy sessions that incorporate motivational interviewing focus on OARS: open questions, affirmation, reflections, and summarizing. This facilitates an exchange of information and an empowering of the client to decide for themselves what changes might need to be made in their lives.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Couples therapy helps couples learn to control emotions, trust each other, and communicate more effectively. It can be useful for short term intervention for a specific issue or for working on the relationship long term.

The purpose of family therapy is to create a supportive and understanding family dynamic within the family unit. Therapists help individual members to identify and change harmful behavior patterns and improve communication. This provides a stable foundation for the family and their loved one's recovery.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Creative arts therapy focuses on creative processes. You may engage in sculpting, dancing, improv, painting, or sketching. These creative outlets provide an opportunity to explore and express difficult emotions.

Experiential therapy in Texas can look different for each person. You may engage in fitness activities, community service, culinary arts, or art therapy, for example. The goal is to provide a safe setting where you can interact with your environment and work through emotions and experiences with the help of that activity and the guidance of a therapist.

the entire building did more harm than good to the majority of its patients. the therapist blaire forced her patients to discuss private matters with the groups even after she promised them individually that know one would know about the contents of their private sessions. on the outside base point looks good but the only people that are fooled are the parents of the kids. from personal experience, i know of professional therapists outside of BPA who regret sending their clients to BPA. I would rate this place a 0/5 starts if i could

Response from the owner1 month ago
Maddie, we are disheartened to hear about this experience. If at all possible, we would appreciate the opportunity to gain insights from your feedback. Calling 972-325-2633 and referencing this review will get you connected directly to a member of the leadership team who can walk through your experience with you and note any areas of opportunity for us as an organization. When providing care in a group setting, we are certain to utilize evidence based approaches as they are known to be highly effective for the ages we treat. The psychosocial stages are accounted for in our curriculum utilized by our licensed masters level clinicians. If the circumstances were different for you during your time in our environment, we want to know about it. We are here to provide the quality services our clients deserve.

My daughter did her PHP/IOP at Basepoint Forney. The staffs here are attentive and they are prompt to answer your questions. Basepoint provides transportation which was great for us because we are an hour away. Definitely recommend.

Base point for me was a great experience for me , but I also took the adult program online. Which seems to be a lot different from other people s experiences. The people were great, I never thought I would have formed a strong bond in a couple of months online. The therapist was good too, Brian never dismissed us, and treated us like people.

Treatment was okay, the place overall was fine. One thing that I have noticed is some of the staff forgetting what could trigger people, like yelling. Mrs Rachel was the best therapist in the building, I would recommend her but she unfortunately left. If you are looking for a place to learn some new skills basepoint is a good option but if you re really suffering i wouldnt recommend it especially with how rude some of the kids are at basepoint (from my experience) i overall enjoyed the experience and I definitely learned a bit.
