About Pasadena Villa Psychiatric Residential Treatment Centers Smoky Mountain Lodge

Pasadena Villa - Smoky Mountain Lodge is a residential treatment center for adults over 18. It’s located in the Smoky Mountains in Sevierville, Tennessee. The facility emphasizes treating psychiatric conditions and treats substance use as a co-occurring disorder.

The facility is accredited through the Joint Commission and is also PsychArmor Certified as a Veteran Ready Healthcare Organization. They also work with autistic adults. They’re in-network with many major health insurers.

The Lodge offers residential treatment, a partial hospitalization program (PHP), and an intensive outpatient program (IOP). The residential treatment program is an inpatient program with staff available 24/7. The staff uses the Social Integration Model of treatment. This consists of putting patients in constant real life situations so they can intervene quickly when necessary.

You’ll have an opportunity to volunteer or even have employment while getting treatment. The primary therapy is group therapy, but you’ll also have individual therapy. They offer many other different types of therapy, too, such as traditional cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). You’ll also participate in experiential and family therapy. There’s an animal assisted therapy program as well.

There’s an emphasis on fresh, high quality, nutritious food because nutrition has a direct impact on health and wellbeing. Meals are also used as a time to build community.

The PHP is also a structured intensive treatment program, but you can live at home or in their onsite housing which is gender specific. You’ll have therapy and treatment seven days a week, but you’ll have more space to deal with personal responsibilities. After finishing the PHP, you can transition to the IOP which offers even more independence but still offers a level of support.

Former clients called the views “stunning” and mentioned that the facility was beautiful and clean and the food was amazing. Several clients cited the “amazing” staff and “wonderful” therapists.

Hi its vickie here's a complete honest review about my experience after being here for 3 months. I rate it 3 out of 5 stars just due to personal experience that most likely noone else will encounter. First the positives. The staff there treated me really great I got along and liked all the techs. I had Susan as a therapist who was great and always knew she was honest with me. The rec therapists were great and very friendly. Jacky was an amazing help with any issue I had with disability or anything she helped me. The food here is amazing I don't see how anyone could hate the food here it actually got me to eat three meals a day. The rooms you live in are really nice too. There were a lot of different groups you could go too. Only suggestion would be to add more groups for stuff like ocd. Php here also was amazing morgan was a great therapist and Tony was an amazing help and great person and I liked the groups and outings we did.Negatives that you probably won't deal with but this has to be an honest review of my personal experience . A fight broke out and I had to restrain a patient don't feel like the techs there at time knew how to handle that situation. The cig policy: I understand why they have the rules of no trading or giving out cigarettes but my suggestion is to have the therapists of both clients both agree that it's ok.There was only one nurse that I didn't like and thought she had an attitude at times but the rest I liked. I do feel like nursing would benefit with more help which would benefit both staff and patients. One problem that took more time then it should have is being notified when and for what I'm being billed for when it comes to meds. My advice is a patient should be able to request to sign before any med you get charged for.Overall the staff does care the facility isn't perfect but it's also not terrible like some reviews make it out to be. Overall I didn't think the facility would help me before going in but I was wrong going here honestly was an amazing experience. I met so many amazing people here and friends I made here. It would be 4 stars if the fight didnt happen which is a very rare occurrence only happened once had to keep my review honest due to that experience.Despite the things I experienced I would still come back here and it's comforting to know i could always go back.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehabs are designed principally for clients who require intensive supervision and support, including clients who have just completed detox, clients in early recovery, and clients at an elevated risk of relapse. Inpatient treatment helps clients stabilize following detox and prepares them to step-down into outpatient and/or community-based care. Clients reside at the facility for the duration of their program and engage in extensive addiction counseling and education. Many programs also offer evidence-based complementary therapies.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients receiving support in a rehab aftercare program typically have abstained from drugs or alcohol for a period of weeks or months and have completed high-level (often inpatient) treatment. Drug rehab aftercare is designed to support clients in maintaining their sobriety as they re-engage with their ordinary lives at home, in the workplace, and in the community. Services are highly individualized and evolve with clients' changing needs, but generally include peer coaching and relapse prevention.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
Safe detox requires 24-hour clinical care in Tennessee. This is due to the health risks that are involved during withdrawal. As the brain reacts to the absence of the drug, severe symptoms can occur, depending on the type of drug used. For instance, alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal may result in seizures. Fortunately, supervised care in a clinical setting can provide the necessary treatment to avoid health risks and allow you to complete detox safely.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental Health Treatment Centers focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

A Therapeutic Group that educates residents on how to recognize ways in which their thoughts and feelings affect their behaviors. Participants also learn specific techniques and engage in role play activities to solidify their knowledge and practice of said techniques.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

A therapeutic group that addresses family relationships and promotes positive, healthy communication. Group discussions include family conflict and problem-solving, codependency, family roles, and healthy boundaries. Group members can identify and process feelings about family dysfunction and issues of grief and loss..

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Recreational therapy supports addiction recovery by giving you structured activities that promote physical and mental health. These help build a supportive network of your peers that promotes sobriety. Activities can include sports, creative arts, and outdoor adventures that help you reduce cravings, manage stress, and give you an emotional outlet.

Nothing like advertised

Very disappointed in this place. They do a great job selling you on it over the phone but it is nothing like the website says. Way too much free time and the family program is terrible.

The facility and setting are beautiful but the staff and organization are very problematic. They have a strong bias against divorced families and do a terrible job communicating with families. They refuse to have family meetings that include both parents if the parents aren't currently married. Then they only communicate with one parent when there is a crisis. It's the worst place my child has been thus far. You would think that with a policy of meeting with each parent separately if they agree to meet at all, they would honor that there are two parents to contact in a crisis. I am sorry my loved one had to go there. It truly is the worst of all the places I've experienced as a family member and my family member who is there also has disturbing stories about the staff and the way it is run. I don't recommend it, but I understand if you feel desperate and need to get your loved one in somewhere. Some of these places, such as this one, are a dumpster fire, though. I say stay away if you can.

I read the reviews and was so scared to go to treatment. But I'll tell you my testimony. I came here for ptsd. When I came here I was having panic attack after panic attack and could never cope with my feelings. Coming here for a month changed my entire life and outlook. Thanks to Susan, Madison and Betty, Jackie and all of the wonderful techs I have met(Heidi, Kellin, Jordan, David, Cody, Ty, Amanda M., Shannon, Madison Sara) to name a few I was able to key in on the root cause of why I had all of my deep harsh feelings. I'll never be able to thank Pasadena Villa enough and if you are second guessing it, it's okay to have those thoughts too. It's hard to be away from my support system at home but one month away from home set me up for the rest of my life to be able to cope and handle outside of here. But that being said I know where I felt the most support and kindness and if I ever need to come to residential again I know I have a home away from home where I'm welcomed and cared for.

What an amazing experience. My stay here at Smoky Mountain Lodge has been life changing for me. I don t have one negative thing to say about anything here during my stay. I came ready to dive deep and do the work and all the therapists, group leaders and techs provided me with everything I needed and the tools to take with me to better my life. The administration staff was wonderful. They helped me with anything I needed and they were always pleasant and supportive to my specific needs. The kitchen crew, maintenance staff and housekeeping staff were always working hard and keeping the lodge up and running in all the right places. The food was incredible. Plenty of it too. The buildings and all the facilities were in great condition. The furniture and decor were really comfortable and the bedrooms and bathrooms had all the right amenities. Housekeeping always kept everything clean as well as fresh sheets and pillow cases. I m so grateful for all of those things that sometimes get overlooked. The views here and the surrounding area is absolutely beautiful. I always enjoyed our wellness walks and I couldn t have asked for a better environment to be in while I worked a program of mental health recovery. I appreciate everyone at the lodge including the other clients. I learned a lot from them too and made plenty of supportive friends while I ve been here.

The location is stunning and the meals are amazing. It can be difficult to get calls returned, as they can be understaffed and depending on the counselor. Management was super responsive when I emailed them, which was great. The lifelong membership to the Parents Group for children who've gone there has been 100% worth my child going there, both as support from other parents who understand the journey and from the awesome moderator Betty. In the end, it depends on the child's response to getting help, but I recommend SML. (Side note: I appreciate that my faith-based perspective has not been discredited by staff and help, and has even been encouraged at times)

This place was horrific. I was supposed to go to get therapy to adjust back home after being in a behavioral health facility.STAY AWAY FRIOM THIS FACILITY This place is a nightmare. They changed my entry dates twice. By the time I got there I was stable and sleeping 8 hours. The nurses that give meds are completely incompetent and gave me the wrong meds that belonged to someone else 3 times! Thank god I was sane enough to catch it.I couldn t sleep there. They wake you up every 15 minutes. I was lucky to get 3 hours. Also, the therapist I was assigned to worsens 666 necklace. She approached me about it in a confrontational way as a I am Christian. It was so unprofessional. Also, I was told my family could visit but only if you are 18. So that was terrible. It is an open floor plan lodge. Very crowded with close to 60 people and very loud.It s taking me months to recover and it s not at all as advertised. Also the place is filthy and dusty. If you are unstable do not go to this place. It s better to be in a mental hospital. Not to mention they charged my credit card 6,000 dollars without my permission and my insurance paid a lot as well. This is a money making business. They aren t there to help. The staff ignore you and you have to wear an ankle bracelet that makes you feel like one must feel if they are on house arrest.

This was my first residential stay and I don't think it gets better. There are restrictions on what you can possess and do. But, everything is totally reasonable. This, with the exception of the smoking policy. As of this review, you are only allowed to smoke or use nicotine patches or gum. No vapes. The staff at SML is so sweet and helpful. The psych techs are all great people who really make your stay comfortable and inviting. The food is fire! I wouldn't call it "gourmet." But, it is absolutely delicious. It's pretty rich. So, get some exercise or expect to gain a few lbs.The rooms leave something to be desired. However, they're definitely livable and the AC/Heat is excellent. Some mattresses are better than others. Now, the important stuff. The therapists here are wonderful. They're all very knowledgeable and appear to have a vested interest in the well being of the residents. The groups are really helpful and cover a breadth of topics. Nursing is absolutely phenomenal and always down to chat and help. As with any facility, make sure you check your meds for accuracy each time. I heard about issues with mixups. But, I never had any.Last, you'll need to be sure to advocate for yourself or loved one. It's easy to slip through the cracks at any place. Those who sat back and let the ride take them didn't receive the phenomenal service I did. They even have a free alumni club which connects you to services and folks who have graduated.I definitely recommend Pasadena Villa Smoky Mountain Lodge. If there's a way to contact me from this review, feel free. I'd be happy to give additional info.
