About American Addiction Treatment Center Newport News

American Addiction Treatment Center is affiliated with the Pinnacle Treatment Centers network. This clinic is in Newport News, Virginia. Their main treatment options are medication assisted treatment and outpatient counseling for adults and pregnant women.

Medication assisted treatment consists of meds that can help you with your withdrawal pains and cravings. Prescriptions like buprenorphine and methadone are given based on your clinical needs. You’re supervised during the dosing so there’s little chance of overdose or any negative effects.

Your medication assisted treatment is also supplemented with counseling. This can take several forms, such as individual and group therapy, motivational interviewing, 12 Step groups, cognitive behavioral therapy, and career coaching. Counseling can also be done via Telehealth, so you’ll be able to use your cell phone or tablet to get treatment.

The facility is open in the mornings for dosing, with counseling taking place in the mornings and early afternoons. They’re accredited by CARF and recently by NAATP, so you know your treatment meets a professional standard.

*I know this is long, but it's detailed. I hope someone high up sees it and tries to correct some of these issues. There's other stuff to share but this the important problems.I have been here a few years now. I absolutely love my counselor. Anything I've asked of her she's gone up and above the task at hand. I also believe she's the one who has been there consistently since I started this program. As for the Doctor, he's awesome. Blunt and to the point. I really wish we would see Dr. Mayor's face more.the Nurse Practitioner is very kind and easy to talk to. Lately we have see his face with more one on one. I know that I have told him the same thing several times we still manage to go over it all over again. Really it's a waste of time. I feel like if we have an issue that's unrelated to the actual medication, we should see our counselor and go from there. I believe we should still have to sit down with him from time to time but ever few weeks is a bit redundant. I would suggest 3 months. As for Nurse Q, I've very glad that she's here. No BS and to the point. I miss seeing her face while dosing us but I know she's in there kicking ass in another way. Now with that said...The lady before her Ranata. She was just as great as Nurse Q and corporate screwed her and pushed her out the door. The last 3 front Desk people you've had and I'm sorry for describing her this way because I can't remember her name. She was very well dressed, light skin female, and on the larger size. She was great! Well she got pushed out when a new director started. The lady after her ran this place it seemed. I'm not sure where she disappeared to.Now Brittany! She really did run this place with Q while corporate was trying to figure out what to do themselves. Not just that but of course another new director. SMHWell now she's gone. Now all of us patient's have to start over getting use to a new person and by the way the last 3 including the 2 now can't find their own a$$. You can tell when both are over whelmed in their body language and attitude. If they don't get some tuff skin and be able to fake the funk then they're not going to last. The new director seems to think putting up a memory wall is a good idea. Yeah for the people who what to be reminded everyday of the loved ones they lost. Think about the other have that has serve PTSD and it messes with them daily. Uhm... And taking chairs away like we're children?! Wow!!! Y'all are worried about people nodding out or sleeping. There should be a camera in the dosing room where the nurses can look to see for themselves if they should be dosed.Altimently it's up to them it's their license. Not only that but security shouldn't be letting them sleep. So what's going to happen when it's raining or super cold?People sometimes have to wait for an hour or more for their insurance rides. Then breakfast! Next thing you'll know we'll have the homeless who aren't in the program.Ms. New Director, understand throwing money around on food and decorating isn't going to help anyone in this program. Maybe the food for some but I do see that becoming an issue. If you could get some good counselors in here that would be great or at least ones that will stay. That turn over rate is insane. Why don't you take a pill on a few things that need to change that people want and go from there. Oh and holiday closings were put up in color paper people would actually read it because it's no different than what's already hanging up.Appointments with the Doc, NP, and or counselor's should be noted in our account when checking in a day or a few days before they want to meet. We have jobs too.I'm done, back to our normal schedule.

I would highly recommend going anywhere else for help with your recovery than this joke of a recovery center. Under their new director all they care about is getting you as addicted as possible to the legal drugs they push.their nurses and previous security smoke pot out front and to the side of the building. With the the higher ups being completely aware. You will be treated less than human by all employees since you are there for help. I ve been told on multiple occasions that someone is too busy to see you and the moment they think you are gone they appear in the parking lot. Along with the rumors of nurses stealing methadone I would emplore you to look elsewhere for treatment

Accepted Insurance

American Addiction Treatment Center Newport News works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
12-step icon12-Step
Once involved in a 12 step recovery program, clients can commit to a model of life-long recovery rooted in spiritual growth and intensive peer support. 12 step meetings are anonymous, peer-led, free, and accessible day and night, year-round, in most communities. Self-selected sponsors provide one-on-one coaching as participants work through the steps of recovery. These steps are based on spiritual principles used to address the origins of the addiction and to encourage self-compassion, forgiveness, acceptance, and accountability.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you enroll in drug rehab in Virginia, a treatment plan is designed by professional staff in order to help you overcome drug addiction and modify addictive behaviors. This may include evidence-based treatments, group and individual therapy, and relapse prevention.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Don't believe anything they tell you or anything you can read in their web page, they just don't care for their patients and will do everything as quick as possible just to finish their shifts. That wasn't the kind of treatment I received.

I would highly recommend this facility to anyone who is struggling with addiction. For the first time in my life I have found a place with a staff that not only cares deeply for their patients, but also do not make their patients feel judged. They really do seem to care beyond any other facility I have been to, and I have been to several. I still have a long way to go, but just knowing that they see their patients as human beings who are in a lot of pain emotionally and mentally, and not just junkies , is what gives me the strength and courage to keep trying. The staff is absolutely amazing. I will forever be grateful for this , facility, the staff, and the doctors associated with this treatment program.

This program at this facility helped me work my own recovery. I had good and okay counselors the one I'm moving facilities from I will miss greatly. She advocated for my constant part in the program I followed their program and in turn I have been rewarded with freedom from my active addiction. Even if I need to be in this program longer than other people think, I'll always be grateful to this place and the professionals that showed up every single day so I didn't have to be a street addict anymore with no way of accomplishing mental health and sucess. Thank you, I hope the next pinnacle in my journey sets a gold star like all of you!

Thankful that they have these places, really does help. In the beginning for me they were having a lot of staff issues and was very misorganized. But they're definitely doing better and the receptionist, doc nick and the lady with short hair at the dosing window especially have been great. The lady with short hair at dosing window actually cares and is a HUGE help.

This place is a joke. If you're doing good or trying to decrease out it seems they do everything in their power to keep you there. The counselors are a joke after 3 years I never had a true session Because none of them stayed long enough to get past your treatment plan. But if you're getting high everyday they'll just let you continue to up your dose and let addicts use the methadone as a bridge to get their next fix. There's people who haven't passed drug test in years. So essentially this place is enabling using addicts but making it impossible to dose off. I had to do it one my own because the doctors weren't listening to me about not only my mental health but my physical health. I had a counselor tell me it's ok to get pregnant on methadone and if I was at a low enough dose it wouldnt harm the baby. Which you should never ever tell a patient, Because you cannot absolutely guarantee baby won't withdrawal. If you are truly looking for recovery this is not the place to do it and I urge to to find a place that will truly help. In my 3 years at the clinic I had one counselor I felt cared her son had passed away from addiction and she wanted to help so much but they messed that up too. She left shortly after I got her, and the head dosing nurse she's absolutely amazing she was the person who listened to me the most and tried to help the most out of all people. That lady is a blessing those are the types of people you need working in the recovery Field. The only good thing that came from this whole experience is I decided I myself want to become a counselor to help others in the same situation.Edit to add: there's also security up there by why did myself and another recovering addict have to find and dispose a bag of heroine at the front door. And nothing was done.On a separate occasions someone sitting in the lobby was trying to talk someone into buying dope I reported it to my counselor and nothin was ever done or repercussions as the person was still there the following weeks.

No stars!!!!!! This place is a joke! They don t care about you getting off methadone. All they care about is taking your money or having Medicaid pay for you to go everyday. They are not helping people get clean or stay clean. It s like they want you there forever and are not taking the proper steps to give you the help you need. You are just another dollar sign for them. The doctor could care less and especially the so called counselors could really care less what happens to you. You can go there and score any drug you need from other patients right there on the premises. The drug tests are a joke because you can fail one and no consequences at all, just enable you to be addicted to drugs. This is the drug capital of any kind of hard drugs you want in Newport News!!!!

Newport News is a joke. If you like to be watched 24/7 even on smoke break then go there. When I realized the place wasn't for me I explained why. They said they wouldn't send clinically to another place. They said they wouldn't throw me out the street. They sent me to the lobby. So when I asked for my phone so I could be proactive and find another place to go they kicked me out and said I couldn't be on. The property. They packed my stuff but didn't bother to go in the dresser to get the rest of my clothes. They didn't get my shoes and some personal items that were near the bed. And they didn't give me all my meds that i brought. Do not goto this place if you want to to feel like you're in prison.

Very friendly environment and staff. The NP is amazing he responds like a health professional should when In treatment BUT has such a positive outlook on future and present why your there. I loved the nurses and expecially the intake nurse she awesome and so is the front desk associate she is very polite and helpful when I needed help the most she went above and beyond for me and settled my questions and worries about enrollment. I just love the privacy of course and how professional the entire place is down to consulers all welcomee with open arm's. Great experience to say the least.
