About Acacia Counseling Wellness

Acacia Counseling Wellness, located in Goleta, California, focuses on providing mental health and behavioral health care services to individuals living within the county. Their services are designed to help college students. Their alcohol and drug rehab services are not for those with acute needs, but instead are for individuals who can be treated on an outpatient basis.

Acacia Counseling Wellness offers support to those struggling with a wide variety of concerns. The outpatient program offers individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, and couples counseling. Clients engage with a mental health counselor to address their concerns, learn new coping strategies, and process unresolved emotions that perpetuate their suffering.

Acacia Counseling Wellness accepts most insurance plans, including Amerigroup, Anthem, Cigna, ComPsych, Magellan, Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Aetna, HCSC, TRICARE, and Kaiser. Out of network benefits may vary, so it is important to verify insurance coverage with your provider prior to enrolling in treatment.

My therapist was okay, but please be wary of taking their information about insurance at face value. I was under their care during Summer 2023, they were very negligent when it came to making sure I would be covered by two different forms of insurance I provided information for. I kept being pushed along and reassured not to worry as if things would be completely covered by both my therapist and staff over email. For instance, before I started, asked if UC gap insurance would be covered and free, and their staff member communicating with me mistakenly conflated that with the policy that all regularly UC insured students are free. Mindpath/Acacia serves a vulnerable student population, and they should know this difference by now before confidently encouraging students that they should be covered only to continue acquiring costly appointment fees to be a surprise later. I was met with condescension over the phone in the past as they refused to acknowledge their mistake, saying that I'd need to still pay. They even tried to claim that I did not tell them I was on the GAP plan and that they didn't know, even with email evidence. I even still recently received another $300 bill, still described as chargers from last summer. They're ultimately a business, and they will act like it at the end of the day.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Acacia has been a wonderful place for me to open up and continue my mental health care journey. I've felt welcome since the first time I walked in the office and my specific therapist is such a perfect match for me. Thanks Acacia!

I have been seeing Betsy for 3 months now and she s been a valuable support system for me here at UCSB. She is just the right match for me and I feel so comfortable with her, she listens to me and empathizes me. Every time I finish a session with her, I feel more at ease than at the beginning of a session. She is such a kind, warm person and calming when I talk to her about my stressors. I really feel a difference from before I saw her. I was going through so much and needed a therapist ASAP. It had been a while since I saw a therapist before Betsy and I can say she is the best one I ve ever had. She is truly a godsend. I m really happy that I decided to go with Acacia Counseling & Wellness. It s very convenient for me to bike to, the front desk receptionists are kind, I feel a tranquil vibe when I step into this waiting room and it warms my heart to see the dog!

So glad we found Acacia! The people are wonderful, and we couldn't be happier with the care we've received. Office manager Sarah is awesome at making you feel welcome and working around your schedule, and she even makes billing a breeze. Plus, there's Charlie the Therapy Dog, who is always there with tail-a-waggin' to make you feel at home. We love how Acacia makes us feel like family...they're the best!

Hi Greg, thanks so much for leaving such a glowing review! We really appreciate the kind words and work hard to make Acacia different from other clinics, in exactly the way that you described. Thanks again and have a great rest of the summer!

When I file my dissertation and graduate from UCSB with my Ph.D., I will have two unlikely people to thank for my success - Dr. Robbyn Jackson and Dr. Keith Higginbotham. I say unlikely only because I had no idea in 2014 how much I needed regular therapy and how much Acacia would change my life. Through individual consultations and group work, I came to recognize that I wasn t the only person struggling; that change required a level of commitment I didn t know I needed to make; and that the change was lying dormant inside me. Keith and Robbyn were so supportive and nurturing over the last four years and they gave me/helped me unlock the tools I needed to succeed in school, with family, and in relationships. I love Acacia Counseling!
