About Yellowstone Recovery

Yellowstone Recovery is a nonprofit drug and alcohol addiction recovery center in Costa Mesa, California. They provide low-cost, comprehensive substance abuse treatment with a full continuum of services. They serve adult clients.

Staff at this facility craft individualized treatment programs for each client following an assessment. Yellowstone Recovery operates several locations throughout Orange County. Services at this location include detox, inpatient treatment, an intensive outpatient program (IOP), standard outpatient treatment, and sober living.

Detox is the first step to treatment at Yellowstone Recovery. Staff monitor clients in detox 24 hours a day to help manage withdrawal symptoms and ensure safety. Medication may be administered as part of the detox process.

Clients participating in the inpatient program live on site, where they remain under staff supervision and care around the clock. Clients share their living space to help build a supportive community. Treatment methods in this program include therapy (individual and group) and 12-Step meetings, in addition to several experiential therapies.

IOP treatment typically follows the completion of inpatient care. While in the IOP, clients live at home, visiting the facility for nine to 10 hours for treatment each week. IOP treatment focuses on individual and group therapy.

The standard outpatient program is similar to the IOP, but clients spend less time in treatment. Outpatient care focuses on therapy while preparing clients for post-treatment life.

Yellowstone Recovery operates sober living homes for clients who are in an outpatient program or who want additional support following program completion. Sober living homes aren’t as restrictive as inpatient residences, but clients must still abide by the rules to live in the facility.

Yellowstone Recovery accepts all PPO insurance, Blue Cross, Aetna, Health Net, Cigna, and Anthem. Clients are encouraged to confirm coverage with their insurance provider before enrolling in a treatment program, as in network and out of network benefits may vary.

Sure wish I had known more about this place before my son was taken there. He needed help but instead left in a lot pain, we are all individuals and no one can say he was not in pain but my son. Sad part no one called to say can you pick up his clothes and specify how long you had to do that, and when he called and asked to release his clothes to his parents they said they gave them all away. There was information on his forms to whom to contact. That is just a small amount of hurt that ended it. Where is the compassion.

I will forever be grateful to Yellowstone Recovery and the staff that took me in and helped me in my recovery and that gave me a new and better life free from drugs and alcohol. I have learned so much during my time here and honestly I couldn't have asked for more. They took me in when I had nothing, nowhere to go, and no one to turn to. Thank you to Dr. Honey Thames and everybody whether they were staff, alumni, or other clients, I would not be where I am today without all of them and the program of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Accepted Insurance

Yellowstone Recovery works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Per session payment lets you pay for each treatment at the time of service. You may also pay for a certain number of sessions up front and then pay for more if needed. This format allows you to tailor the financial investment to your specific needs and avoid having a large lump sum payment due at the end of the treatment program.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs offer clients in addiction recovery a robust continuum of care after clients have completed active treatment. These services address recovery as a life-long process and are designed to evolve with clients' changing needs. Clients may partner with their case managers and/or addiction recovery team to identify the rehab aftercare services that are right for them. They may receive career counseling, housing assistance, peer coaching, 12 step program induction, among many other services.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
hiv-aids-program thumbnail image
HIV/AIDS Program
HIV/AIDS programs support disease prevention and management in high-risk individuals in recovery. Individuals who engage in intravenous drug use and other addictive behaviors are at a higher risk of becoming infected with HIV. Rehab centers that specialize in treating this population typically have a high number of nurses, physicians, and psychiatrists on staff who can make sure both their medical and mental health needs are met.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

While participating in dialectical behavior therapy in California, you'll focus on four key areas of skill development: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. Treatment includes weekly individual and group sessions.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Substances can prevent the absorption of nutrients and cause damage to your body's systems. Nutrition therapy in California addresses the deficiencies in vitamins and minerals that are caused by substance abuse.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

I would like to leave my thoughts of gratitude for Dr. Honey Thames, the director of Yellowstone Recovery. My sister Lisa Smith was in need of therapy with her ptsd and to gain more coping skills instead of self medicating. I personally was able to speak with Dr. Thames, Honey and describe the concerns that I along with the rest of my imitate family members had been having and was starting to feel hopeless until we kept making calls reaching out and received a return call from Yellowstone Recovery!! I am grateful that just as Dr. Honey Thames guaranteed me the admission, the one on one therapy, along with much more than I can try to leave in my review!! I am just blessed. I hope my family feels blessed to have Lisa back home, armed with tools, and living a fulfilling life!! Thank you, Dr. Honey Thames and Yellowstone Recovery!!

Yellowstone Recovery saved my life. They kept me in the Big Book from day one, showed me how to stay out of my head by being of service. I learned (AA) etiquette, which seems to be close forgotten. I am forever grateful for the women I met, the Yellowstone staff, and the tools I now have to live a happy healthy life, free from drugs and alcohol. Thank you, Yellowstone.

Yellowstone and Honey saved my life. This was my first treatment center, and I am now 5 years clean and sober. Yellowstone is my safe house. My favorite part about Yellowstone is that you will stay connected forever, so when times get tough, I run to Yellowstone to keep my sobriety. Also, the director works super close to the clients, so you always feel included. Thank you Honey and Yellowstone for saving my life.

Do not send your loved ones in this place. This place is horrible and money hungry. We paid $15,000 for 60-day program and we just loan this money because we really wanted to help my brother even we re struggling to provide this money since they don t accept Medi-Cal insurance so we have to pay out of pocket. All the programs that they told us and what it says on their website were lies. They don t have any activities at all and each of them has to do chores and the first time I visited here, everyone is smoking and they re allowing everyone too. After 60-day program, i asked them if my brother could extend staying there so my brother stayed there for another 1 and a half month and they asked for $2,000 more. And since we can t afford the monthly pay anymore and thought that my brother is doing well already, my family decided to just take him back home. And now after a month, i called them and asked if my brother could get a character reference letter from them so my brother could continue working, and they told me that they could not give or say anything about his character because he didn t finish the program and it was against their will to send my brother home during that time. At the time that my brother was there and wasn t fully paid yet, everytime i call them and before i pay and ask how my brother doing they said a lot of good things about my brother that he never complain and always doing his assignments. And now that my brother is out from that recovery home, they can t even give us a Character Referrence letter and Letter of Completion. It made us felt really bad. It really hurts that this place just want your money and not really helping individuals. Paying $17,000 is a waste. How could they say that it s against their will to send my brother home during that time if we can t afford the monthly payment for the extension anymore. My brother stayed here for almost 4 months. He finished the 60-day program and they re trying to force us to pay monthly there for the extention while my brother s doing chores for them. So UNFAIR. The letters that we we re asking from this place after paying them $17,000 out of pocket is just a piece of paper that could help my brother a lot to start his life again but unfortunately, we are helpless this time. I just hope that this will not happen to other individuals too.

Dear Jeza, We are truly sorry to hear about your negative experience and appreciate you bringing these concerns to our attention. We feel that it is important to clarify that your family member did not complete our program, which is why we are unable to provide the documentation you requested to the court. Providing such documentation to the court would misrepresent their completion status and be against both legal and ethical standards. We understand the importance of character reference letters and completion certificates for future endeavors. However, we must adhere to strict guidelines to maintain the integrity and trustworthiness of our services. During their time with us, your family member showed significant progress, and we believe completing the program would greatly benefit them. We are more than willing to discuss how we can assist in finishing the program, ensuring they receive the full support and benefits we offer. Please contact us directly at 888-418-4188 so we can discuss this matter further and explore potential solutions that would best support their recovery journey. Thank you for your understanding and for giving us the opportunity to address your concerns.
